Songbird Remote & Fedora Linux
For me Songbird remote isn't working at all.
I am running a Fedora core 11 32bit with Songbird 1.2.0, Build 1146 (20090616030029) together with my iphone 3G on OS 3.0.1 and Songbird Remote Free 1.2.1 and the Songbird remote 1.2.8 Addon.
Now actually I have the addon installed and now I am trying to connect, whicht actually doesn't work at all.
Here is what I tried up to now:
restart iPhone
restart Songbird (twice or so)
stopped iptables
added port 10666 to iptables
stopped & started music
tried to find something that makes sense in selinux manager but didn't found anything
looked at the NAT settings of the AP although that doesn't make sense.
Well, thats it right now.
Actually I am still thinking of something together with iptables or damn selinux which for me is a pain in the ...nevermind.
Further I am asking myself if Songbird remote free actually is looking for Songbird in the Ethernet or is the addon in Songbird looking for a remote?
Because, whenever I start songbird remote I woul expect this tiny rotating wheel just beside the wifi symbol to signal to me that something is working and using the network. Thats what I am used to from other apps.

Inappropriate?Ok, now on Windows in the same network it is working fine.
I’m sad, dont like windows
-
Inappropriate? In the Songbird Error Console I now found this:
Failed to load XPCOM component: /home/foo/.songbird2/4qh18lhh.default/extensions/SongbirdRemote@779Media.com/components/sbRemoteControl.so
any idea why that might be?

Inappropriate?I can take a look at Fedora Linux. Are you on an intel chip set?
-
Inappropriate?I'm having this problem too.
However, I have the version 1.2.14 add-on and I'm running fedora 11 on an amdx64 platform. The iPhone 3G is running OS ver. 3.1.2. -
Inappropriate?I'm having the same issue.. Plugin fails to load Fedora 32bit nvidia chipset housing an AMD proc.

Inappropriate?I've got the issue not on Fedora, but on both Ubuntu 9.10 and Arch Linux. Both are running the latest Songbird with the latest version of the Linux addon. I just downloaded Songbird Remote on my iPod, so it should be the newest.
Arch Linux is running on a Core2 Duo in 64-bit mode with a nVidia 8400M GS. Ubuntu is running on a Pentium 4 and nVidia 6200 if that's helpful. If there's any more information needed I'm more than happy to comply. -
Inappropriate?Just an update: nmap is not reporting port 10666 as being open. I notice the Windows version needs Bonjour - could that be an issue?
-
Inappropriate?Another update (sorry for posting so much...)
I've fixed the problem on my Arch Linux box by installing the nss-mdns package, adding mdns to /etc/nsswitch.conf and starting the avahi-daemon (which is kind of like Bonjour for Linux). After restarting my firewall it seems to work fine. I'll try the same on Ubuntu, and I'm guessing the same general procedure will probably work on Fedora too. -
Inappropriate?Hey Kevin - there seem to be quite a few Ubuntu users on here with the same problem. 9.10 ships with the avahi daemon enabled by default and I've got the appropriate port open in my firewall (using gufw). But still nothing shows up on my iPod touch (using the latest free Songbird remote). Post if you find a fix - I'll look at the avahi config options to see if I've missed anything (quite likely !)
