Why is there no "copy this text" (OCR) for images/snapshots?
Hi there Evernote team,
what I really miss since not using Microsoft OneNote (for those kind of notes I use Evernote frequently and quickly :-) for), is the capability, not only to search through text in images via OCR, but also copying this text out of the image into plaintext!!
This is something I did frequently / do really need! Are you planning to implement this?
I think this must be really a small step, after you already implemented this great OCR text recognition support! :-)
Thanks for your help in advance!
Kind regards.

Inappropriate? That would be brilliant. (I've been thinking the same thing for months - I'm sure there are many others!)

Inappropriate?Just started using Evernote two weeks ago. Love the application so far. OCR/handwritten note capture (for whiteboard snapshots esp.)? Seems like great oppy. Does anyone know if this is under development?

Inappropriate? This feature is a no brainer. My guess is that whoever they license the OCR technology from won't allow it.
-
You mean from whoever they licenceD it? -
they explained the reason on one of their podcasts namely that it is not a true OCR service but instead assigns multiple possible interpretations for each. example: car could be interpreted as 'car' or 'ear' so both words would come out in a search. its a kind of fuzzy logic for word recognition as opposed to OCR that will assign one interpretation, right or wrong. its therefore useful for search mainly. -
Interesting! I saw that happening in Evernote (3.5) too. Sad they brand it as "OCR" if it actually isn't! But I'll continue to use OneNote more anyway... -
Inappropriate?I started taking pictures of businesses cards and sending them to evernote, seems like this would be really useful.
Not to mention, if they built the ability to copy text out, you could probably build an export from evernote to a contact application!
I’m excited
