Adobe Support: Problem with Air not connecting to apps
HP Pavilion running Vista Home Premium, 64-bit. After a Windows update and a Norton Internet Security update, existing Adobe Air applications--Tweetdeck and Seesmic Desktop--will not open.
Have uninstalled, then reinstalled Air, Tweetdeck and Seesmic. Still not working.
Seesmic opens the configure box, accounts are listed, but no passwords saved. When I add passwords and click SAVE, the configure box closes. When I reopen the configure box and check settings, the passwords have not saved.
Tweetdeck opens only to an empty frame, no account data loads.
I believe this is an Air issue, because both of these applications went bad at the same time and both of them employ Air for the connection to web/API.
I have since installed Twhirl, which is working perfectly, which tells me that Air is installed correctly.
Something happened to the Air settings during the updates. Will someone from Adobe please address this issue?

Inappropriate?Cabby,
If only some of the AIR apps are showing problems, you might best report them to their authors. If their debugging shows that AIR has an error, they have avenues to report such things designed for Developers.

Inappropriate?Thank you for your comment, Matthew. However, the two apps in question (Tweetdeck and Seesmic Desktop) worked perfectly until a Windows update followed by a Norton Internet Security update.
Twhirl, which is working fine, was installed after the updates. I suspect that if Twhirl had been installed prior to the problematic updates, it would not be working either.
Is there anything you or someone from Adobe can do to look into this?

Inappropriate?Cabby,
The logic you're offering about the order of the installations and updates, doesn't support a hypothesis that the problem is with the AIR platform itself.
Because the applications in question aren't authored by us, we're not in a position to troubleshoot them (we don't have the source code, etc). This is why I recommend reporting the issue to the authors first. They in turn can confirm if the issue is out of their hands and needs our attention, in which case they can make use of support sources that are geared for developers.
Obviously, if this is some core problem with AIR, then we would be flooded with reports from developers and end users, and we'd proactively investigate the issue. But I don't see that happening yet.
Sincerely,
Matthew -
Inappropriate?Hi, Matthew~
Thanks for your response and for taking the time to reply not once, but twice. I disagree with your assertion that the problem doesn't lie with Air, as Air is the common denominator in my problem. Furthermore, with the help of someone from another support community (working on a Mac, no less) I was able to resolve the issue. The problem was found within Air's ELS directory. The simple removal of two directories resolved the problem. Here is what I did:
Windows Vista (TweetDeck and Seesmic non-run problems):
1. Close or confirm that TweetDeck or Seesmic is not running.
2. Navigate to C:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Air\ELS
3. In that folder you'll find a folder called:
TweetDeckFast(with a bunch of numbers after it).
For Seesmic desktop, look for:
com.seesmic.client.(followed by a bunch of letters and numbers)
4. Delete the TweetDeckFast or Seesmic folder.
5. Restart TweetDeck or Seesmic and the password box pops up, allowing you to log-in.
Windows XP:
1. Follow above
2. Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe\AIR\ELS
3-5 Follow above.
The problem here was a crash of the bridge between Adobe Air and the connection to Twitter's API.
Good luck to everyone else having this problem
I’m Hip, hop, happy.

Thanks so much! -
Did not work -
Inappropriate?Cabby,
We may have to agree to disagree, but to me, this further supports the theory that the applications are behaving badly. AIR application authors control how the applications read and write to their encrypted local store data. Programming error on their part can cause them to fail to read the data, corrupt the data, etc.
Or, one might believe that the the MS and/or Norton updates damaged the files, or disrupted the applications while read/writing to the files such that the became corrupt.
Either way, glad that the issue is solved. Cheers! -
Inappropriate? Thanks Cabby for detailing how to fix this issue, worked like a charm! I had almost given up on being able to use Tweetdeck...
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Cabby,
I'm having the same problem, but i can't find the files your talking about. I'm running Windows Vista 64bit. Is your solution for a Mac OS X? -
Inappropriate? My problem was with Vista 64-bit, not Mac. How adept are you at navigating to system folders? Can you get to the Command Prompt?
Here is the navigation path to the folder where the TweetDeck or Seemic issues lie:
C:\users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Air\ELS
Note in the string above, you need to replace USERNAME with the name of your admin user. In Vista, when you open the command prompt, you are automatically in the USERNAME directory. -
Inappropriate?I can navigate through the system folders, but when i get to C:\users\USERNAME\
i can't find the rest of the path \AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Air\ELS. How can i find it in the command prompt? -
Inappropriate?Ok, I did this and finally a login screen came up, great!
However, when I type in my credentials, it just 'Validates' and times out, never actually doing anything.
However, I have never had an issue with Spaz, and it still works, unlike Twhirl, Tweetdeck or Seesmic.
They are all Air apps, no?
I’m confused.

This is what mine is doing as well. -
Inappropriate? Not working for me. I also tried removing AIR/Tweetdeck and removing my accounts from tweetdeck but somehow it still finds them and tries to load the content. Finally I managed to remove them and was able to log-off. But not when i try to log in and create the Twitter account it requires it just sits trying to validate.
I’m frustrated
