As the CEO and founder here at AirSet, I can tell you that it's not a question of if, but simply when we will support the iPhone with a client. In the meantime, there are quite a few things you can do.
For Mac Users - to get your AirSet Calendar data on your iPhone:
Subscribe to your AirSet calendar(s) using icalendar feeds - this is a feature supported by the Mac iCal application and will get all of your AirSet calendar data into iCal so when you sync your iPhone with iTunes all of your events will appear in the iPhone calendar. To learn how to get the feed URL and how to subscribe in iCal, just click on Help while in the AirSet Calendar and search for icalendar.
For Mac Users - to get your AirSet Contacts on your iPhone:
Use AirSet's Contacts export feature to export all of your contacts to a vcard file which the Mac's Address Book application imports. The Apple import gives you the option of ignoring duplicates, so it not too painful to simply do this every couple of weeks.
For Windows users:
iTunes for Windows now supports Outlook sync so you can use our desktop sync client (available from the AirSet "More Tools" icon in the left toolbar) to sync to Outlook and then follow Apple's directions to have Outlook sync with iTunes and subsequently the iPhone contacts and calendar.
As I said, we'll definitely have dedicated AirSet iPhone support in the future, but we have quite a few projects on the website that we have to complete before we will get there, so these work arounds are your best bet at the moment.

Inappropriate?@RevTim, making AirSet accessible via the iPhone is definitely in our plans. Even in the past 24 hours, we've had quite a few inquiries on this subject. We will keep all of our users posted here in this forum and in our company blog.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate? Thanks, Sherrie! I love Airset and several people in my world use it. We all want to keep using it, but the iPhone is making us rethink things because it would mean double-entering all of our appointments, etc. That is not always convenient and potential breakdowns at all levels.
-
Inappropriate?Oh, I would be willing to beta test if you need someone! ;-)
-
Inappropriate?Glad to hear that you love AirSet. We will definitely keep you posted in regards to the iPhone! But definitely check on us here at Get Satisfaction or at our company blog also... :)
-
Inappropriate?I'm definitely excited to see AirSet on the iphone! I think AirSet on the iphone is like having a portable computer that you carry anywhere ^_^
-
Inappropriate?AirSet on the iPhone would be awesome! Especially with the release of the new 3G iPhone, there are so many more people using it.
-
Inappropriate?Oh please please please! Yes, we need this app so much! Another possible beta tester here for you!
I’m hopeful

Some of us would rather give up our computer than use Outlook. It's a security honeypot. Please make some way for us to use your applications on iphone, at least the calendar as a shared calendar. This is your opportunity to show up google! -
Inappropriate? What if a PC user does not use Outlook or any other kind of email client or address book, just webmail?
-
Inappropriate? If you don't have Outlook on your PC, iTunes also supports syncing to Yahoo Address book, you could export your contacts from AirSet, import them into Yahoo and then choose this option (available on the info tab in iTunes when you have your iPhone connected to your PC). Admittedly a little lame but it's all I can think of for the time being.
-
Inappropriate?since i won't touch outlook with a 10 foot pole, my answer has been to subscribe a google calendar to airset, and use the google calendar on the phone via the web.
nuevasync offers to sync google calendars to iphones, but only for the user's native calendars (not subscribed calendars) so airset stuff doesn't show up. in all of this there's no answer to maintaining calendar entries when out of range, or sharing changes back to airset - i have to wait to get to a computer to change things in airset directly.
for contacts i exported from airset to windows address book and have to remember to make changes in airset when i add or edit contacts.
for lists i migrated to tadalists.com.
I really hope there's an airset iphone interface soon, and that it maintains the usefulness of the original airset mobile client, which i've used for years.
I feel like I've lost my ability to keep track of things. -
Inappropriate?@htaylor, we are equally as eager to get AirSet available on the iPhone here. More and more of us are switching to using the iPhone ourselves, and everyone feel the same way about losing one's "ability to keep track of things."
-
Inappropriate?WELL 5 MONTHS SEEMS LONG ENOUGH
-
BPORTMAN: Agreed! -
Inappropriate?Let's hope that they will post an update on their plans. Frankly, I got referred to this program months ago, and decided I couldn't really use it until it could go mobile with me -- and for me that means iphone. No prognosis means I will not even spend organizing time setting up my world on the desktop for this application set, even though on first look *I love it*.
But why should I waste my time on the overhead with a company that not only isn't serving my mobile platform, but is not even keeping people current on progress.
You know what they say about good intentions...:) -
Inappropriate?I want the ability to sync my lists on my iphone. How's the development going?

Inappropriate?I'm guessing that the release of the major new version of the website probably delayed the start of development on the iPhone client? Since the new website has been released (and probably the major issues have been ironed out at this point)
I keep expecting that perhaps someone could update us with a small hint?
Some small crumb of info to provide hope? My life is in organizational tatters, my info is scattered between four or five apps, and all I can do is check on this thread periodically. It's sad.
Awaiting good news...
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? The work involved in developing the latest release consumed the entire staff for most of 2008. We are continuing to work through some minor bugs, but we expect to be finished working on the highest priority issues by mid-January.
I've had an iPhone as my primary mobile device for over a year, and would love to see support for AirSet. Scratch that - I'm really aching for better support :-) I have a Windows computer, so I have used AirSet Desktop Sync to get my data to Outlook, and then iTunes to move contact data to my iPhone. It is a bit cumbersome, but it works reliably.
The priority that we assign to iPhone development continues to percolate upward. It is obviously an important platform and our discussions are always around *when* it will happen, not *if* it will happen. -
Inappropriate?Good to hear it's still on the radar!
Let me reiterate this -- I will NEVER use outlook. It's buggy and insecure in some very major ways. It's an attractive nuisance to hackers. A solution that involves Outlook is like telling your users to stop using safety belts in order to drive your car. -
I agree that support for the iPhone is way overdue.
However, a solution that does not include Outlook is sure to isolate you from 90+% of the market share. I don't doubt your experience with Outlook, but I do know that my experience has been very different. Having owned multiple copies of all versions of Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2007, and having run some of them in conjunction with an Exchange server, I can agree that there have been security issues. However, they have been addressed and each version of Outlook has improved--some quite dramatically.
Outlook 2007 is a very stable and very powerful PIM application. At this point, nothing else even comes close to the capabilities of Outlook 2007.
Don't write off Outlook users---that's where your bread and butter is...
Jim -
Inappropriate? This recent article claims that Outlook has a 60% market share -- and since these folks write Outlook add-ons, they don't have much incentive to understate the market.
It's probably higher for corporate users.
I agree it makes good business sense to include Outlook options -- but it's cutting out 40% of the market to make your solution Outlook dependent.
I use Remember the Milk and other tools for my PIM, at the moment. All are well integrated with my iPhone, but limited in toolset and integration. Without using MobileMe and/or Outlook, calendar integration is a problem right now. Even Google Calendar doesn't really cover what I need. AirSet does, *except* for the iPhone integration issue.
I love AirSet in principle, but my life is mobile enough -- and shared with my co-workers enough -- that I need mobility and sharing on the iPhone, and my company is NEVER going to standardize on Outlook. I am hardly alone. -
Inappropriate?nuevasync now allows for syncing of subscribed calendars inside google calendars, so my setup currently looks like this: google calendar subscribed to airset, nuevasync set to sync iphone from google.
it works to show me my daily appointments and plans, but there's no way to change or upload anything inside airset.
nuevasync is in beta, and i have no idea what their business model may be in the future, but at least for now i can check my calendar when making appointments away from the computer. i'm still hoping for some kind of announcement from airset about plans for an iphone app and maybe a timeline?
i'm patient, but google calendars are looking more and more attractive... -
Inappropriate?Brian, Employee, 6 months ago: "As the CEO and founder here at AirSet, I can tell you that it's not a question of if, but simply when we will support the iPhone with a client."
Has this question been answered? Knowing that the client is actually under developement would be good news and help us in our decision making process.
I'll imagine a native iPhone app that syncs both ways and is able to provide information and edit options even while offline. A working webapp would be second best, but please make sure that it doesn't load as slowly as the browser based version.

Inappropriate?Just checking in. I am working on either fully embracing Airset or to pursue other choices. I love Airset, but really need an iPhone app for this. I appreciate the feedback here, but first asked the question now close to a year ago.
Any time table for this? -
@RevTim - we have one more web project that will tie the team up through May then we expect to be able to start on the iPhone app. I know this isn't what you would like to hear, but it is the best we can do. -
Thanks, Brian. I appreciate your response. Just trying to make good decisions going forward with my peeps over here. I know you have been very busy and really like Airset a lot, so just know I won't give up too quickly ;-) -
Would it be inappropriate to ask how much developement weeks you'd expect? We're in the situation, too, of moving forward or delaying our next step of integrating airset. Best wishes, Lukas -
Sorry, we don't typically provide time estimates, especially on projects that won't start for a few months :-) In addition to design and development time, we do extensive testing on everything we release and as you might imagine that can be hard to estimate. -
Inappropriate? Also still waiting. The lack of communication is really disappointing.
If my software company said "we'll be getting around to that feature sometime in the future, but we won't tell you when" our customers would fire us immediately. It's a reminder of how good AirSet is for us to sit around endlessly. If I pay for AirSet, will I get more responsive customer serivice?
As an early adopter, I spent lots of time and energy telling people how great AirSet was. At this point I don't even bother.
I’m disappointed, frustrated
-
@htaylor - As I commented to Tim above, the team is tied up on web based projects through May and then we expect to start work on an iPhone app. -
That's awesome to hear. Thanks for responding. It helps a lot. -

Inappropriate?May? Wow. Until you start? Wow. Really? I appreciated the situation and am glad to hear many of your folks are iphone users, that helps, but wow.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Well, it's the end of May and still not a peep about iPhone syncing. I need this capability and as much as it pains me to do so, I'm going to have to switch to Google after having been with Airset for the last 3 years.
-
Inappropriate?@kfrazack
We have started development on the iPhone sync capability, but its release is not imminent. We hope that you will check back down the road and give AirSet another try... -
Yes, we have been working on Active Sync support for the iPhone which will sync contacts and calendar info to the native iPhone Address Book & Calendar. This is mainly working but will require a lot more testing before we can release it. -
Inappropriate? How cool is that? I am so happy about this. I have been waiting and hanging in there for Airset for over a year -- even to the point of clicking on ad links to help out.
I'll be glad to purchase the app the day it is released -- THANKS AGAIN!
-
Inappropriate?Active Sync? Meaning that the phone will have to be tethered to a windows computer in order to sync data to and from Airset?
I was hoping for over-the-air functionality, much like i could do with the Airset phone application three and a half years ago.
No one has mentioned syncing Lists. Is that part of the plan?
I’m sad
-
No, this is just the protocol, it will work over the air. You will go into your iPhone settings and select the Microsoft Exchange option and enter a special URL for the AirSet servers and your login credentials. Then it will automatically sync over the air with AirSet. There is nothing you have to do on your PC or Mac at all. -
Inappropriate? If possible can we find out how to get involved with Beta testing? Also, any idea of a timeframe for this eagerly awaited app?
thanks,
John -
Inappropriate?Mark me as well. When you are ready for the beta peeps, I'll be glad to help.
-
Inappropriate?I'm also happy to be a beta tester. I've been an AirSet user for a long time and would welcome a wifi/3g-based iPod Touch/iPhone app.
I’m interested

I will pass your interest along to the engineer in charge. We're hoping to have this out early in the Fall -

Inappropriate?Brian,
I hope that setting the MS Exchange options doesn't mean I need to provide an Exchange server to use this functionality. We are a very small business (6 employees)--no Exchange server available...
We are a many years user of Airset, and would also be happy to help with some beta testing. -
No, not at all, our servers "act" like an Exchange server for you so you don't have to get one yourself. The way it will work is that you go to Settings on your iPhone and tap on the Mail, Contacts, Calendars button and then Add Account... The top option is Microsoft Exchange you will select that option and enter in server information we will provide. Our servers will "look" like an Exchange server to your iPhone and sync your AirSet Contacts and Calendar info to your phone. Nothing to download or install. On the the AirSet side, you will have new options to decide which cloud computers you want to sync to your iPhone. This will be free during the beta and all users will get one month free when it goes live, but our current plan is to make this part of the Personal Premium service.
P.S. I've been using an alpha version of our iPhone sync service for the pat few days and it is really great. It takes a while to do the initial sync (since lots and lots of contact and calendar data has to be downloaded) but after that it is great as just the changes on either side go back and forth. -
Inappropriate? It's nice to see motion on this -- been tracking it for...well over a year, I think?
yay!
Will also be happy to test. Former QA engineer.

Inappropriate?I've been an Airset fan for 4 years waiting for some sort of over-the-air-mobile synch. Over that time I've gone through a Palm Tx and Nokia N80, both amazing gadgets but nothing compared to my shiny new IPhone 3GS. To date I have not been able to avoid being tethered to a desktop machine. An Airset client/app would be the bestest Christmas present ever! It's the missing link and needs to come soon else MobileMe and Google Calendar will draw people away from Airset even though they are both inferior to the Airset calendaring and contacts management systems.
Yes I will always have a desktop, for convenience and local master storage, but I don't want to force the IPhone to work through it for calendar synch. It feels like being stuck in second gear. Browsing the Airset website on the IPhone is at least doable (unlike the Palm Tx and N80), but it is not pleasant. I had similar misgivings about our other major cloud application, Freshbooks. I was so pleased that they had produced an IPhone App (which works brilliantly - arguably better than the web-version) that I hesitated all of 2 seconds to pay $US17 for the full version.
One of the comments above suggested that some Airset users would donate funds to drive this along. I've come across this in open source projects as well. A business model where people could donate resources to a particular project, according to their collective priorities should remove the bottleneck to such a much-anticipated IPhone App. I'm really pleased it seems to be imminent.

We have an over the air sync to the native iPhone contacts and calendar application that we have been using internally for a few weeks now. We hope to open this up to a wider beta test in the next week or so, so stay tuned... -
Inappropriate?Hooray Brian -- looking forward to testing it out!
-
Inappropriate?I just used google's "most recent" search to come up with hits on iPhone + airset. a year ago was the best I could come up with. I'm almost ready to scrap airset and move to something that DOES directly support iPhone. Google Calendar anyone?
-
Hi Bob - understand your frustration but latest comments here are very recent. Recommend you hang on a bit longer. -
Inappropriate?I've been using Airset for the past few years and I have been searching for a way to sync my calendar to the iPhone. While I'm happy you guys are working on it, I'm disappointed to hear you're using Exchange to do it. As an Exchange business user of the iPhone you are only allowed 1 Active Sync, or Exchange connection per phone. So this won't work for me, or any other Exchange user for that matter. Since I already have the 1 connection to my business Exchange server it won't allow another connection.
I was really hoping to get a native app for Airset. :( -
