Provide some competition to iTunes with a DRM-Free TV Show & Movie download service.

At the moment (at least in the UK) the only way you can legally purchase TV shows and movies to download and watch on your iPod/iPhone is through the iTunes store. Although the iTunes system is great and works really well, not having any competition in the marketplace for this type of service means that iTunes is the only game in town, and thus can charge whatever it likes.

What I would like to see if Amazon take the ideas from their MP3 download service, and do the same for video content. DRM-free, iTunes/iPhone/iPod compatible files that are the same (or higher) quality you would find on the iTunes Store, but with pricing to provide some real competition to iTunes.

Now obviously without the DRM in place you won't be able to offer rentals this way, but just offering downloads as purchases will bring some much needed competition to this market.

As someone who used to use iTunes for all my music downloads, when Amazon MP3 was launched, I actually started to download a lot of my music from Amazon, mainly down to the fact that it was cheaper AND it was easy to get the music into my iTunes library (using Amazon's download manager software) and the onto my iPhone.

At the moment I get all my TV shows and movies through iTunes, but hopefully if Amazon introduce something like what i've suggested, they can provide a good value for money alternative.
