My iPhone battery drains too much overnight!
My battery was at least 50% full when I went to bed. I woke up 8 hours later (yes I slept in!) and the battery was almost dead. Is this because it's on wifi? Obviously I wasn't using it while I was sleeping. Is there a trick to maximizing the battery life?

Inappropriate?Did you have bluetooth turned on?
I just turned mine on, ill see if it affects the charge tonight -
Inappropriate? For overnight recharging the best thing to do is use the power adapter and plug it into the wall. Otherwise, if you prefer to use your computer it has to be on. Here's Apple's notes on the subject:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.ht...
Your computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPhone battery may drain.

I’m frustrated, and confused!

Inappropriate?hi, ma99ie -- have you tried the apple store for help with this one? if it's getting that warm all the time, you might have a defective phone and they'll be able to replace it for you.

Inappropriate?I took my iPhone in and couldn't replicate the error I was having to show them the error, but they gave me a new iPhone anyway. Took my word for it. Awesome.
-
Inappropriate?I'm having the same battery drain problem. If I leave the iPhone unconnected overnight (from being fully charged), often the next morning it's down to about 10-20 percent. The Apple store replaced the first iPhone, but now the new replacement is doing exactly the same thing after only one week. Surely, if it's in sleep mode it shouldn't drain the battery that much?
I have about 1GB of music stored, and Bluetooth is turned on - but again, if the phone is in sleep mode why would this affect the battery so much? -
Inappropriate?Hmmm, I suppose it is possible that one of the apps on this phone is stuck in a loop and is using up battery resources. Have you rebooted the iPhone lately and still had this problem.
I’m possibly reaching here
-
Yes rebooted several times and have the same problem . my battery drains . -
Inappropriate?Yep - I have tried re-booting - it made no difference. I turned off the Bluertooth to try that, no difference there either. It does appear that if I leave the phone plugged in (even though the computer is off, and Apple advises not leaving it plugged in when the computer is turned off) it doesn't drain the battery as much as leaving the phone unplugged.
I've searched other message boards and it appears that a LOT of people are having the exact same trouble. It appears that maybe it is a software issue that has transpired from downloading/upgrading to the nesest softwre version from Apple.

Inappropriate?Thank you for your help Lane B, I purchased my iphone from ebay I unlocked and everything. I finally figured out what to do. My Wifi drained my battery FAST so when not in use i turn it off and that made a HUGE difference. I thank everyone for your help.

Inappropriate?I've noticed similar issues with my iPhone and what I found was that my iPhone was making and losing a wifi connection multiple times during the night. Where my iPhone sits at night on the nightstand, I only get intermittent wifi - so it was switching between wifi and edge.
I was able to dramatically reduce my battery "drain" during the night by disabling wifi and just using edge for email and SMS alerts. Now I only drain about 5% of the battery overnight.
Hopefully that will be of use to someone else.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the suggestion. Eagerly looking forward to this being the solution, I tried turning off the wi-fi, and hoped that this action would solve this little mystery.........but alas, exactly the same as before, leaving the iPhone unplugged and turned off (with w-fi off) it still drained to 5-10% total power again!
-
Inappropriate?I just started having the same problem. My iPhone was fine for the first three weeks only needing a charge every couple days. Now the last two nights it has been going completely dead after having a full charge. I tried turning off bluetooth last night and still it died. I doubt it's wifi since it was within 10 ft of my router and has never had problems before.
Is there a way to do a hard reboot? I may try restoring it to try it fresh. -
Inappropriate?Have any of you set the iPhone to auto-check for new mail relatively often or installed any applications, especially ones that might run in the background? I've got push mail and WiFi turned on with it officially checking for new mail once an hour (officially because push mail shouldn't need to check in the same way), and leaving my iPhone asleep overnight hardly hits it's charge at all.
-
Inappropriate?I had no changes whatsoever except bluetooth which I turned off the following night.
-
Inappropriate? As a general rule, for any phone, I charge it when I go to sleep. This has worked for every phone (& iPod) I've had for the last 12 years. This way, I have the phone near me at night (in case of a call) and I don't have to worry about when to charge it during the day.
I’m unsure

Inappropriate?IPhones Suk... Thats sad cause I love Apple, I have Ipods, Mac Books, G4's etc... Sorry to say as pretty as it looks, very disssssapppoointing... I had one and thank god was able to return in to my provider, that was at about 45 days, its garbadge. Its a stupid phone, not a smartphone ;)

Without any substantive complaints besides "It's a stupid phone" I'm not convinced of your arguments. -

i will try the same thing. right now using itunes to restore my iphone -
Wow. I think this is it! After I enabled tethering some days ago, my iPhone 3G start draining in 2 hours or so from 100 to 0. This morning I unplugged my iPhone after a night of charging. Battery showed 100%. After 1 hour it drained to 50%. Then I read this comment and did a 'reset all setting'. Right after this my battery indicator showed 85%!!! :) thanks! -
Inappropriate? If Apple is indeed listening - I may have figured out the cause of this problem and it's not obvious and not anything said so far. Can I get a consulting fee? (Seriously.)
I’m greedy!
-
You could always try reporting it to Apple via Bug Reporter, though I'd be surprised if you'd get anything other than their thanks if it turns out you're right. -
oh common now please do help its not like we are going to steal your bright solution/plan and make money of it.... just want to fix my phone man!!! -
Inappropriate?eh screw it - here's the answer:
if your computer has a wireless connection and you leave your iphone near it, it will drain it quickly, even if you have wifi disabled on the iphone.
I’m helpful!
-
Sure Mr. tiny brain,
Explain your point when you have 2 iPhones in the same room with wi fi on and a computer with wi fi on also.
One of the Iphones is draining around 30% over the night and the other is keepeing the charge in 100%.
Both are the sema age, bought them on the same day with same caracteristics.
BEFORE SAYING THAT YOU ARE WISE, TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE!!!!

Inappropriate?I've same issue with power drain. I have 3 iphones, have not figured it out what was the cause yet. I hear there is sw turn off sw run on background. it will save your iphone power. personally, iphone is ok, not that great.

Inappropriate? My phone started doing the same thing: draining the battery flat WHILE PLUGGED IN TO THE WALL SOCKET. Conceivably I could have 10 apps running and all the devices on without the battery running down if it is plugged in. Instead it is in sleep mode with all devices off and it still goes flat.
I’m frustrated
-
That's really weird, assuming a restore doesn't fix it, methinks it's Applecare time. -
Inappropriate?I had the same problem and thought something must be running. I was messing around in settings and discovered the "fetch new data" setting. "Push" was on which I assumed meant the iphone checks for mail god knows how many times a day. I turned it off and set it to manual. I've had normal battery life since. I'm going to test setting it to check mail hourly. I would imagine hourly would be better than constant mail checking all day long.

Inappropriate?I just got the new iPhone a week ago. The battery drains very fast! I am charging twice a day!
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Since the iPhone 2.1 software update that was released yesterday is in part meant to substantially improve battery life (among other lovely things like *much* faster backups), you might want to try it out and see if it makes a difference, especially if you combine it with the tips on the Apple battery section ohisee linked to above.
I’m pleased
-
Inappropriate? The latest software update helped me. A definite MUST download especially if you use "fetch" to gather information all the time. To do this upgrade you will also have to make sure you have the latest iTunes version as well.
-
Inappropriate? Also .. check your fetch / push settings on your iPhone they will drain power along with any blue tooth devices that your iPhone is keeping in contact with. The new Patch helped quiet a bit.
-
Inappropriate?I also have this issue except i don't have it plugged in overnight just asleep. No WiFi, no Bluetooth, fetch turned off, brightness set low and auto. I took it to the apple store who replaced my phone with a new one. After fully charging and restoring the phone. I found this one stone cold dead eight hours later. I'm wondering if it's one of or all of the third party apps. I put on the phone? Next I will try deleting them all and seeing what happens.
-
I'm wondering if it's due to a very weak ATT signal at my house. I'll try airplane mode first tonight to see if it happens again. -
Inappropriate?iphone has very poor battery life. I have to plug mine in every night and it still gives me 20% warnings before I go to bed the following evening. Its normal and a bit disappointing. I have a resorted to plugging it in at work too if I need to use it for calls when I'm out on an evening.
The Apple Store have confirmed this is a normal battery life for a 3G iPhone that has push email running, is actively used for calls and has moderate use of safari/google maps.
I’m telling you to get over it
-
Inappropriate?I have the same problem. WIFI and Bluetooth are off. I've noticed that the New York Times App checks for new data every 15 minutes. If you have that app, you can change the settings in the same place you change the general iPhone settings. I'm testing if that is the culprit tonight.
I’m hypothesizing
-
Inappropriate?I have the same battery issue - go figure. Drains after 2-3 hours. Drains while plugged into the wall socket. Battery is warm all the time. All of this started happening two weeks ago. I have reset the phone, removed all apps and reset, same issue. 2-3 weeks ago, the only thing I did differently was to start plugging my iPhone into a iPhone alarm clock at nights. I'm off to the Apple store for a new phone but this issue needs to be fixed. My last 6 phones (at least) did not have a problem like this. If it did, AT&T replaced the battery. This issue, you go AT&T, they bounce your arss to Applecare. They are really making us pay for the great features.
I’m not happy
-
Inappropriate?Everyone who's having battery drain problems, take a look at this page -- http://joeygibson.com/2008/08/26/my-i....
I had the same problem crop up where it recently started draining overnight without my doing a thing to it, and I just found this page. I had recently added my work email and it, too, was set to Push, so I think that's my problem solved right there. If you've recently added a new email account (or if you never turned Push off on your old one), it might be what's doing it.
Good luck.
I’m happy I found the problem!

Inappropriate?IPhone battery is just not that great. The idea of a phone with such poor battery performance and the fact that it is actually soldered to the phone is pathetic. At least they at apple could have made this battery easily replaceable like any other smartphone) whats smart bout that?? Simple answer is GREED. crappy battery non user replacable = ££££ in for apple atersales. Unlike ay other mobile phone on the market, the whole premise of the iphone (or any apple product) is about to do anything on the device or put anything directly on to the device had to bypass other apple software (apple itunes etc) again ££££s in for Apple....However dont think they foresaw the whole jailbreak phenom...which i am sure they will be working on eradicating in future F/W updates. At the time writing this beta 3 update is immminent and im sure there will be plenty bugs and issues in there that will have folk running to their nearest apple stores with faulty handsets...I for one will give it a miss until i know it is completly stable (which i know can never happen as no update will ever be completely stable....right)
Fo pople experiencing overheating with the bttery issue. I found the iphone does seem to overheat but for me it seems to be when te wifi is stuck in cycle (continually trying to connect to a network) other times it connects without issue. -
Inappropriate?before i install IM+, my battery can last for 1-2 days. after IM+ installed, battery reach 20% in half a day without heavy usage or very little usage!
i uninstall it and try to monitor...
hey guys, did anyone or urself notice that IM+ is eating up ur battery? it drain ur battery like water dripping... i could see that effect in my 3GS. that’s sucks...
the last thing i tried, i'd see the problem goes away! i basically turn off a lot of things until the last thing i haven't turn off is the gsm radio, i put it in flight mode. the phone become cool as before, no longer heated up, no longer drain battery 10% per 30minutes, the usage not equal to standby time anymore!
u ask me my reception is bad, i say no, it is great radio signal.
i guess, not me alone suffer from this battery draining problem. at least few millions ppl screaming for help.

It's not I'm plus but push messages that I'm plus sends... Turn off push!!! N 3gs drains battery easily .. Apple making a fix in 3.1 lets hope just serch in google "3gs battery" and u will see it would last a lot more than just 1-2 days but a bother thing u can do it go general network turn off 3g and turn roming off - it just switchess off the Internet untill u turn that switch on again... Then u can still use it as a phone also dim the screen and turn off push notifications!!!! -
Inappropriate?ok guys! I FINALLY FOUND THE ROOT CAUSE !!
i dun use push mail, but i did use push service from eBuddy, MafiaWars, TapTap... ever since i install these application which provide push service, my battery start to drain like water. i try uninstall all these apps, it solves. i try install it again, the problems come back! in order to use these apps without battery drain/heating up... try to DISABLE THE NOTIFICATION IN SETTING(1st page)... IT REALLY SOLVE !!!

Inappropriate?Apple could not help me over the phone but set up an appointment to the closest store an hour away. Within 4 minutes, they could not help me. They attempted to diagnose the phone, but since Apple had me restore my phone when I was on a tech call, it was a wasted trip - ALL data was wiped out - seems the Apple Tech on the phone should have known that. It apparently wasn't my battery, which would cost $79 to replace. BUT, I qualified for a new upgrade of $199 for a new phone!! The only suggestion was to get a new SIM card from AT&T, which I did (THAT was free). Had to resync the new card with iTunes and set up my voicemail again. My phone was fine for ONE WHOLE day and is now running hot again today.
I got the 3.0 update - which was a nightmare on that first day. Had to totally redo my whole phone. That only took 3.5 hours to do! Apple said it wasn't supposed to happen with 3.0, like it had with the 2.0 update, but it did. I also just got the 3.01 update. That tech call was a lot of fun too!
Still baffled and frustrated over this. I already spent $500 on this dumb phone (which I really do love), but am NOT going to spend another $199 or $299 for a 3G! My gosh, our monthly plan is outrageous as it is.
I'd just like to know of any known APPS that could be updating all the time since the 3.0 update? I have a first generation 16GB phone. Never had a problem and my hubby's phone is fine. Our friend has a 6 month old 3G iphone and now HIS is running hot too.
All push is OFF as is wi-fi. I turned off location and then I didn't get any calls or texts - that was a BAD thing to do. Notifications is also off. I have also removed tons of APPS. This is crazy. I could understand if it WERE the battery, but Apple told me it wasn't. It just HAS to be an APP - but which one?
Thanks to anyone who can help.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? There is a fundamental problem with this issue that Apple *must* be hiding. just like you, i'm on my second phone. I reinstalled a subset of my prior apps and I still have the same problem. I start at full charge and after 3, 10 minute calls, my battery is at 30%. I love the interface on this phone. The features are superior but WTF is up with the battery and these "background" apps?
Why don't they create a Apple sanctioned app that clears up any background activity or does a diagnosis of battery usage by app. COME ON! 80% of the people who has an iphone that I've spoken to has this issue!! -
Inappropriate?just got my iphone a week ago and tbh i've put it on charge every night. Anyway, last night i didn't bother, it had an 80% charge and i didn't think it would lose charge over night. 8hrs later it's dead. Ok, i've installed a million apps and a few of them have push - this shouldn't be an issue... i mean... it is designed for apps isn't it??? Anyway, i'll start removing a few and see if that has an effect. What frustrates me most about apple products is that everyone goes on about how trouble free they are!! what a laugh.. deluded fools. That said, i love using it (when it has charge).
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I had the same problem. The apple store said that there was some defective software on the unit and offered to either give me a new Iphone or restore the old one to factory settings. I took the new phone and everything worked fine. My wifi is always on and my email is fetched once an hour. But, last night, I downloaded the newest version of the software via ITunes and I am back to the earlier problem of the battery draining very rapidly.
I’m not happy

Inappropriate?Help!! I've had my iPhone 3G for over 1 year. The battery, as we all know, was never the greatest from day 1. But only recently, it drains like crazy! It empties overnite which it never did before! It even drains some when plugged into my computer and charging!! Does anyone know what could suddenly be the cause? Do these batteries wear down over time? BTW: I have everything turned off (wifi, bluetooth, push, etc). So i've tried everything that i heard/researched and nothing helps.

Inappropriate? So far, nothing suggested anywhere has helped me. Mine still drains and it happened after the 3.0 update. I do know it's been labeled as "iDrain" and even though Apple is aware of it, nobody will say if the newer update will fix this or what. Mine is a first generation phone and started draining within a week of updating. My husband's is fine. I only have the APPS that came with the phone, since I uninstalled all of the ones I liked. I have, as stated above, gotten a new SIM card, called Apple and AT&T numerous times, gone to AT&T and Apple to have it checked, etc. It's been pinpointed as a software issue, but nobody can say WHAT part of the software got messed up and why only half of the phones out there seem to be having this issue.
The newest thing for my phone is that I don't get all of my calls. They are going straight to voicemail. Now, since I have had my phone since February 2007, I haven't done anything different to my phone, other than that last update. My signal is strong and I've lived in the same area where I never had issues. Again, my husband's phone is perfectly fine. But if I put my settings the same as his, my phone will drain even faster.
I am still frustrated and Apple could not tell me when the new update is expected out but that they were working on it. So not sure if this means another month, 6 months or what?? I am more than upset over this issue. And even more upset that a company like Apple can't even acknowledge this issue publicly and those of us with problems have to keep searching and calling for answers. Very poor customer service in my opinion.

Inappropriate? The way I resolved the battery draining problem: I made sure my contacts and other data were on my computer, ready to be synched with my iphone. Then, I made sure my computer had current version of Itunes. Then, from Itunes I "restored" my phone as a NEW PHONE. The problem is a bug in your software. If you simply "restore", you will put the bug back into your Iphone. I also set my phone to "fetch" email once an hour. After you restore, resynch to your computer. It worked for me.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Well there are many things that effect battery life ... one could actually be a bad battery .. Has that been replaced yet ?
Second depending on which iPhone you have .. If it is the 3G or 3Gs there is more of a battery drain on those phones due to using the 3G Network.
Lastly you could also have a drain if your phone is connected to WiFi or the push/fetch settings on your phone are activated. Take a look at those settings on your phone . Please do not forget about blue tooth devices as well as those connections will drain battery life as well.
Good luck
I’m Happy
-
Inappropriate? For me, Apple did all of that and we restored and reset my phone. The battery tested fine. The only last resort for mine at least, is to wait for the update and hope it fixes the issue I am having with the software. My friend, who's phone is only 7 months old, is doing the same thing. My iPhone isn't even set as the smartphone it's suppose to be. What's the point in turning all of the settings off and calling it an iPhone? I have them off, but it sure defeats the purpose that I bought this phone for.
I had to set my phone back to new on the first day the 3.0 update came out because it locked up my phone. Apple walked me through the whole process and said it happened when 2.0 came out, so the Rep was not happy it happened again with 3.0. That day, it took me over 3 hours to get my phone back up and running. What a nightmare.
I really had hoped it was just a particular APP making the battery drain, but considering I removed all those extra APPS and pretty much have an out of the box basic setting iPhone, it sure doesn't seem to have been an APP.
All my push settings are on manual too.
I’m sad
-
Sorry ... wish there was a way I could help ... I am surprised Apple is not taking care of this for you . Sounds like bug/hardware issue either way if the phone is under warranty they should be able to give you something that works to specs. -
Inappropriate? Thanks. :) For me, my phone is over 1 1/2 years old, so the warranty is not an option any longer. The only thing Apple said was that I qualify for a new phone. But I told them I'm not spending money on a new phone when people are having the same problem with them too. It's just sad that once the very short warranty is up with any phone, that nobody will help you resolve any issues. We paid $500 for each of these phones and as tempting as it is to run to Wal-Mart and get an 8GB for $100, I just can't justify doing it.
I was hopeful that making sure I had all my settings match those of my husband's phone would do the trick, but that just made it worse because he has his push settings on, etc. I just leave it plugged in when I can and when I am out for more than 4 hours, as most of us are, I just expect my phone to die.
When I first noticed the battery drain, I called Apple and they had me restore/reset the phone. When that didn't fix it, they made me an appointment at the Apple store, an hour away. When I got there, within 3 minutes, the girl said that since Apple had me reset my phone, it wiped my data out and there was nothing they could do. You'd think the phone Rep would have or should have known that! That's the day I was told by Apple to go to AT&T and get a new SIM card. If I take the SIM card out of my phone, of course the phone battery stays perfectly fine. But once it's in, it runs hot. I do have about 1 day a week where the phone seems to hold the battery charge longer. We have logged time spans to see if it was worse in the morning or night and even that isn't steady.
But I am not giving up. I am trying every suggestion that I come across and hope that maybe others are getting helped or at least feel somewhat not so alone in this iDrain issue. -
Inappropriate?Yesterday after opening my phone i noticed that it was always warm and the battery will drain in about 5 hours on standby.I though that i had messed up my phone, well after restoring back to factory settings with i tunes its working perfect and the battery has stay the same as this morning.I think the problem is that some cracked app continue functioning even if you don't see them and with your phone on standby. So i think you should try that. And adding one app at a time using it and see which one is the messed up one.Hope this help since i know what is to feel like crazy over something you don't know whats going on...

Inappropriate? So how is an iPhone better than a Blackberry? Well the iPhone has an inferior camera. It has no flash; poor battery life; a terrible touch keyboard that cant handle big fingers (and hence you cant type more than 2 words a minute); and its larger and heavier than the 8900 Blackberry. Well aside from all that its better than the blackberry - how?
I would rather suck on a dead toad than buy another iPhone. Oh, there is one other advantage of the iPhone. It is sold to naive mugs who buy a product that is reinvented and revised every few months, with minor incremental changes, and with a commercial deal that makes it non-sensical to upgrade and a better option to simply buy the latest version. We must be mugs............
If Apple had any integrity, it would release an iPhone that had the latest camera, with a flash, the latest gadgets and offer free upgrades to anyone that purchased it for the period of time they were loyal paying customers. Yeh right, that'll be the day. Bring on the competitor to knock Apple from its precious corrupted perch.

Inappropriate?Hi all, dont get frustrated on this silly(now for me!) problem. First of all, you should know that because it has a gorgeous 3.5 inch display, the battery wont last more than a day or two with reasonable usage. second, wifi, bluetooth and net or video usage drains battery. But here the problem is not this, it drains too fast!!! I too faced same problem till few days back when I upgraded my firmware from 3 to 3.01.I restored again to firmware 3 and the problem is gone!!!! So what I understood is under settings, there is an option for notification(which is not there in firmware 3).Turn it off.Your whole problem will be solved... Take my words...Good luck!!!

-
Inappropriate?Hi Sunil doc - none of what worked for you did for me. I got 3.0 and 3.01 and my phone was so basic for the past two month that it was a joke.
BUT, I am happy to say that I updated to 3.1 on Sept 9th and my heat issue and battery draining issue are a thing of the past. I have reinstalled ALL my APPS and my phone is back to the settings I had before this nightmare occurred.
So for anyone else still having problems, update your iTunes to 9.0 FIRST. Then go get your 3.1 iPhone update.
I am very sure many more of you will see your phones fixed too (even though Apple doesn't mention this being part of the update fix).
I wish you all the best and please reply back to let others know if the 3.1 worked for you too. Hopefully we can all help each other out.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I had the same problem... Went through this forum, and fixed the problem.. (My guess is that it is a buggy app.. not sure what it is though).. Following is a detailed transcript of what I did to get the problem, and how to avoid it... (maybe somebody else will see something they did similar, and we could try to pin point the reason)
How I created the problem
1. Got the Iphone 3Gs
2. Installed a ton of apps (and ran all of them, and closed them with a single tap of the home key).. the app list is as follows.. one of this may be the culprit
The weather channel
Picasa
Slacker
RDP
Skype
AppBox
Kindle
Facebook
Linkedin
Google
iHandy Level
Ruler
FastFood
myWireless
3. Synced it with my Macbook (running leopard and Itunes 8) .. Installed OS 3.1 onto the phone
4. Configured Mail to use my GMail account
5. Configured Calendar to use 4 of my Google calendars
6. Set location services to on, Wireless on, 3G on, push on, Fetch, Every 15 Mins
7. Synced with my Macbook a few more times to back up data
8. Somewhere down the line the picasa app would load up and crash immediately.. I deleted it.
9. Same thing happened with the linkedin app, I deleted it and re-downloaded it, and it started working again
This resulted in the battery draining really fast... (would last about 1 day on stand by)
How I fixed the problem
1. Shut down the phone, left it off for about 2 mins, and then restarted (idea was to close down any app that might have crashed and is draining power)
2. Charged the phone to 100%
3. Set location services to off, Wireless on, 3G on, push off, Fetch Manually
4. Started the skype application, and closed it with a single tap of the home key (so now this app is in the clear)
let the phone be (40 mins usage, and 11 hours 15 mins standby later, batt is only downto 92%)
In the following days, I will first change the settings (location services, push, and fetch to 15 mins)... and then start and close each of the remaining applications to figure out exactly what made the phone power hungry..
Hope this helps
Cheers!

Inappropriate? After a few days of fiddling around with the settings:
Location services, Wireless, and 3G can be safely turned on without draining the battery
Having mail + calendars fetched every 15 mins, definitely drains the battery faster than I would expect it to (need a recharge about once a day).. push is a nono if u want to keep battery life..
Keeping an app open while phone is locked still can drain power (especially things that use other services, like location and wireless/3G)
I’m confident

Inappropriate?yes, i've noticed keeping an app open drains the battery - i always close the app before locking now.

Inappropriate?I have the same draining problem. I bought my iphone 3 gs unblocked at ebay. My iphone battery drains very fast when I switch the my pay as you go plan by AT&T. Is it because of the my plan which is without 3g? or maybe it is because my phone is unblocked?
Now, I switched off the cellular and always on wifi and it is okey. -
Inappropriate?okay. i had an iphone that worked perfectly, till one day i dropped it and crack the screen...damn. So i got a new iphone 3g and have not installed any applications yet. I have turned push off and bluetooth and all that.
but still my battery drains within 2 hours or so. Ive noticed when it sits on the charger, or anywhere. It brings up the loading icon in the middle of the screen, turns black, vibrates 2 times, then goes back to the wallpaper screen (this happens every 2 or so minutes).
On top of this, my iphone lags when i go into any application. It does not freeze. it just seems to pause for 2 seconds or so before opening any application like sound recorder or sms messaging, or anything for that matter.
i believe it may be hardware. but im hoping not.
any suggestions?
