Hide dock icon
Just tried Tweetie and it's brilliant so far: great job. It would be nice, given that it has a menubar icon, if we had the option of hiding the dock icon to save a bit of space.

Yeah we know you want choices on what sort of icon if any at all you would like Tweetie to have.
The dock icon, for now, stays. Without a dock icon, you get no menu bar, and Tweetie's menu bar is where all it's strength is.

Bad precedent? if I had dock icons for skitch, twitteriffic, bowtie, little snitch etc my dock would be *insane* none of these apps *need* a dock icon, they have a menu bar icon. This way when I cmd-tab around my real *working* apps (photoshop, textmate, cssedit) I don't have to worry about my "background" apps cluttering everything up.

I'm not sure how "Tweetie's menu bar is where all it's strength is". You've got keyboard shortcuts for nearly everything in the menu bar. I've managed to use Twitterrific since it came out without a menu bar and suffered no ill effects.
I know you have a strong feeling of the "right" way, but please give those of us who want it an option. Make it a hidden defaults write preference if you must.

I 100% agree. This is really the only reason I stuck with Twitterific so long, because I could hide the dock icon. I'll be a happy boy when this and Growl are added.

Being able to use Tweetie without a dock icon would propel me to migrate completely to it in place of Twitteriffic. I'd like to see this feature. (I'm sure that similarly there'll be plenty of people that want a dock icon and no menu bar icon, so the option would certainly be nice.)

And, to the contrary, allow those of us who hate menubar icons but like dock icons to hide the menubar icon!

Inappropriate?Right now, when Tweetie is running, I can see it both on the dock and in the menu bar. I wish that I could set a preference to hide the dock icon and only use the menu bar icon.

Tweetie should let me hide the dock Icon.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?Although I still want the option, Ashponders is right. Once you remove it from the dock, you remove the menu bar. Although you could recreate all the File Window etc in a right click menu on the tweetie menu bar icon.

Inappropriate?Should have an option to hide the dock icon for Tweetie. Besides this the app is the best one!

Dock ICON.

Inappropriate?I need quite a lot of open applications for my workflow, and my dock tends to be quite a mess.
I switched to twitterrific, which isn't quite as good as tweetie, but it's menubar only, and that's what matters to me.
Needless to say I'll be glad to get back to tweetie as soon as this feature wil be implemented.
Thank you for such a good software anyway.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Note the recent decision by Realmac to remove the option to hide the dock icon. Very interesting.

I'm not a developer, so I don't really know, but it's only my Twitter password, not my bank details. There must be a way to store my Twitter account details without having to deal with the apparent Fort Knox of Apple Code Signing? -
yeah, so... I missed the point a bit there. I see the problem. Shame. -
Inappropriate?Well, Realmac did take a stand, at least. They're dropping the dockless option and telling us why. I'm following this thread for months hoping that I can get any official response from you guys on that subject, since that issue is crucial for me. I really like Tweetie, but I'm only buying it if that option is avaliable. If that's not in your plans, please, please just tell us, so that we can move on.

I guess I don't understand where the ambiguity is. Did you read Ashponders' reply at the top of this thread? The one that says "The dock icon, for now, stays?" -

Inappropriate?I use Dock Dodger to make the Tweetie icon disappear, and I don't find that I've lost any kind of usability from the application. Everything I need is still accessible from short cuts.
Please support this! It would help my account from being de-authenticated so frequently. -
You can't be, Dock Dodger breaks Tweetie. People have already said that. -
The only issue I have with it is that I have to log in every time I fire it up. I lose the expose and cmd+tab features, but I have no desire for Tweetie to behave like a full size app. I just want it to be running in the background. -
Inappropriate?I agree, the dock icon is useless. I never click on it, only use shortcuts and the menu bar. We should be able to hide the dock icon and keep it just in the menu bar.
I’m frustrated
-
except that you would no longer have the menubar thing, which would render 95% of the features useless. -
What are you talking about Matthew L.? Why the hell wouldn't we have the menubar icon? That's the whole thing, to remove the dock icon and have the menubar icon only, there are loads of apps that already does this. -
yes but you wouldn't have the options. You know, like File Edit etc.
Also, if you check on the Realmac blog, they removed the no-dock option because of the limits of having no menubar. -
Inappropriate?@Matthew L: they removed the no-dock option from LittleSnapper because of the issues related to code-signing.
-
Right, with code signing one can still run with out a dock icon. but then you could not have a menu. It's a complicated thing. -
Inappropriate?I also came from Twitterific and don't want Tweetie cluttering up my dock. It's the only item on my menubar that doesn't have a dropdown menu. Tweetie is a utility that shouldn't be included in Expose or cmd-tab list. Why can't you move the menubar menus into the menubar icon? Quicksilver windows work fine without a dock icon.
"New Direct Message", "New VIdeo Tweet", "Refresh", "About" and "Preferences" and "Print" are, afaict, the only menu items not somewhere else in the UI. The only menu item I've used so far was Preferences, to edit account settings and try to hide the Dock icon.
I’m confused
