Sync desktop and mobile unread tweets - possible?
Is it possible to sync unread tweets between desktop and iPhone client (since you develop both)? I spend hours on the desktop, then when I switch to mobile I have to re-find where I left off because TwitterFon has collected dozens of new messages. I can only see this getting worse as more people join Twitter. Thanks!

Inappropriate?Yeah I too am interested as to what the devs have planned for this. My prediction is that it's probably insanely difficult to do this and we won't see it, at least not in the initial release (if at all).
Since nothing is marked as read on the Twitter website, it would all have to be home-brewed.

Really, the only way to feasibly do this would be in Twitters API, and they currently have no facility for that. I agree 100% that it would be insanely hard to implement. -
Inappropriate? It would be awesome! It's very difficult to read Tweetie on Mac and then to search for latest unread tweet on iPhone

Things for Mac and Things on iPhone syncs through WIFI. Could it be done that way? -
Inappropriate?Yes, yes, yes, please! This would make my favorite Twitter app even better. Lounge is working on this, but I find Tweetie's interface cleaner and faster than Lounge so far.
-
Inappropriate? Please don't add this, if you miss one of your zillion followers updates then your world will not explode.
I’m confused
-
i only follow 15 people, i'm certain not every twitter user follows 100+ people, if items in my rss feeds sometimes went missing i'd also get upset... i realize its a bit odd ;) but... some people just don't use it as something to skim sometimes -

Inappropriate? It'd require Loren to maintain -- on his own servers -- a database with a "lastRead.tweet.ID" for every Twitter account logged into from Tweetie, with both the iPhone and Mac apps reading and writing to that database.
Seems like a pretty huge undertaking for what's ultimately a fairly small benefit. Still, it'd be slick if he could make it happen.
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?Would it be possible by storing a 'high-water mark' (the timestamp of the most recently read tweet) on an iDisk ?
I’m undecided
-
Of course but then it'd require people to pay for MobileMe. -
Inappropriate?I don't see this as a small benefit. To me it's a big usability issue and would be a big distinguishing feature.
It's too bad Twitter doesn't have an API for this.
But Loren could use Google App Engine to create such a web service. (I'd be happy to help.)
I’m hopeful.

Inappropriate?Amazon SimpleDB is the perfect place for this.
Question is, how to open it up for all Twitter clients?
I’m totally for this idea

I'll develop something quickly that all Twitter clients can call using Amazon - but I can't shoulder the cloud costs. @ljharb -
That's why I suggested Google App Engine. -
Inappropriate?Could use some little-used Twitter account profile field? I.e. Use the location field to store the tweet.id corresponding the the top tweet for the current scroll position.
-
Sure, but that field is already used for Twitter Search's location search -
Inappropriate?Just thought I'd bump this by adding that, as I understand it, TweetDeck does this now between it's iPhone and AIR based app.
-
Yeah, it's interesting that, after Lounge and Tweetie have talked about this possibility, TweetDeck was the first to jump in and complete it. But, for me, AIR is ugh. -
Inappropriate?Yeah, having my position in the tweet stream synced between Tweetie iPhone and Tweetie Mac is the only way I'm ever going to use the latter on a regular basis... Twitter should really provide an API for this.
I’m impatient
