Just went through to the appropriate places to inform specific users as to the features of Flickr4Twitter. http://flickr4twitter.com is an application that will let you create a custom endpoint URL to insert into Tweetie for integration with Flickr as your image uploading service. A couple of things that make us different from other projects:
Flickr4Twitter:
* Is an open-source and got a good start thanks to ebonical's tweetie_flickr project on Github
* Returns the http://flic.kr short URL for your photo to Tweetie 2
* Does *not* store your Twitter username (even though Tweetie sends it)
* Posts all sensitive data and images over SSL
* Generates a unique endpoint URL based upon your Twitter OAuth hash (or a custom one you generate if you have several Twitter accounts using the same Tweetie application)
* Autotags with "iPhone" and "flickr4twitter" currently
* Converts any hashtags in your tweet into tags
* Automatically updates your description to the tweet you posted with a URL for your tweet.
* Have implemented a basic web interface to view your photos as well as photos uploaded by other users
* You can also upload via the website once you are logged in so that you don't have to use yet another service to tweet from the web when Tweetie and your iPhone aren't handy.
We are open to suggestions for features you guys would like to see added in and encourage you to post them to our own GetSatisfaction page: http://getsatisfaction.com/flickr4twi...

Check this out! http://github.com/ebonical/tweetie_fl... Can any body implement this so that it would work publicly?

This is so very disappointing. I don't want to use some random website like twitpic to host my photos. I pay good money for a Flickr Pro account and I would like to Tweet there.
With the custom image service stuff in tweetie 2 can we use our own website to act as a middle man to Flickr I wonder? May just try that.
I’m undecided

I'd be quite pleased to see Tweetie open Flickr images much like it does with Twitpic now, showing only the image with a black background.

Inappropriate?http://gdzl.la/ is a separate service with which you have to share your twitter and (I presume) flickr password. I didn't get past the sign up page since I won't give my password to an external site that I've never heard of before.
I'd like to see Tweetie hook directly into the flickr API. Flickr now has a short URL service that's perfect for this.
I’m frustrated

Yeah its not ideal, but its an option. I didnt use it either. -
Looks like gdzl.la is from nclud, a reputable web agency here in DC -
I wonder why then they don't use Twitter's OAuth? -
It wouldn't matter if they used Twitter's OAuth. Tweetie 2 sends your username and password in plain text to the custom image service. http://gdzl.la needs your username and password to compare it to what Tweetie sends when you upload a photo. No matter which of these services you use your twitter username and password is being exposed. Your best option is to host your own using the source from t2f.vanneste.ca, http://github.com/ebonical/tweetie_fl... or write your own. -
Jeffrey makes a good point here. OAuth is useless when Tweetie 2 sends username/password combinations over plain text to custom image services. Therefore it doesn't make sense for GDZLLA to use it.
It's not a great solution, but the folks over at nclud are more than reputable (they're friends of mine from the DC area and are good, smart people). And it works. I just followed the simple directions on the site from my iPhone and added the custom URL to Tweetie 2 without any issues.
GDZLLA is better than nothing, though it's a shame that's exactly what Tweetie 2 offers Flickr users. Hopefully atebits sees this and adds support for Flickr in the near future. -
Doesn't matter of nclud is reputable - they're providing an insecure http endpoint, not a secure https one, which means one has to worry about everyone in between, too. IMO, Tweetie's custom end point should ONLY support https for everyone's protection. -
ceejayoz is absoluty right. This is not meant to affront your friends, Patrick, but what about the transmission of our data itself? Did I get it wrong or is even the official implementation of Twitpic, yfrog etc. insecure? If this is true, Abetits should immediatly fix this problem. And add support for Flickr, while they're at it... ;-) -
Hey guys, the SSL cert is on order, this is definitely the highest priority on our list. The OAuth comments above are accurate; without storing a hash of your password we can't authenticate you at all from the post Tweetie sends. If it helps, passwords are stored crypted & filtered out of the logs, and we're definitely using OAuth for flickr. -
@Dan Thanks, good to know. Will you be erroring out the http version when you've got SSL going? -
@ceejayoz We probably won't be able to kill it straight away, but that's definitely the goal. Fortunately, we get usernames with each post, so it'll be easy to fire off an @reply asking users to upgrade the endpoint to use ssl. -
@Dan Wonderful, can't wait! Thanks! -
https://wur.me now uses SSL exclusively -
Just wanted to follow up, MediaTemple has processed our new IP, so we'll be turning ssl on tonight. -

gdzl.la does work great, though. -
I had the same problems with gdzl.la. I think they have a great service, but having to give yet another application my password didn't please me (and I don't think they had SSL support initially). I forked ebonical's tweetie_flickr code and have released http://flickr4twitter.com to solve the needs I had. It uses Twitter OAuth, Flickr API, and SSL for any connections from Tweetie to ensure your security. It does *not* hash or store your password that Tweetie sends in any way. Instead it creates a custom hash or a unique hash based on your Twitter OAuth verification string that is part of the URL to verify your identity. Please feel free to try it out and let me know what you think via our http://getsatisfaction.com/flickr4twi... page or on twitter (http://twitter.com/flickr4tw1tter). Thanks! -
Inappropriate?just tried this out - it works!!!
-
http://flickr4twitter.com also returns flic.kr URLs as well. -
Inappropriate? This really needs to be addressed. The various workarounds all have flaws (including down-rezzing images, stripping out exif data, using shortened urls other than the flic.kr url, etc.); and they don't integrate in the same way that TwitPic and TwitVid does.
I would implore Loren to add flic.kr as an image and video service (as Tweetie's primary competitors have) in such a way that (i) when the image is uploaded it is left alone (full resolution, all exif data in tact, including geolocation, etc.); (ii) when the link is provided in the tweet, it is the "official" flic.kr shortened url; and (iii) when a flic.kr link in an existing tweet is tapped, it bring the user to a full-screen shot of the image or video (as the case may be) as with twitpic and twitvid. None of this is novel; other apps already allow for this.
Until then, the only servicable workaround is to use a third-party flickr app like Mobile Fotos to upload the photo and then tweet it from within that app -- or switch to a different Twitter app.

Apparently full-resolution is being addressed in Tweetie 2.1 (which I can't help with unfortunately). I also can't help with the full-size image display in Tweetie. However, I can tell you that my project http://flickr4twitter.com does return the flic.kr short URL for the photo to your tweet and I'm trying to get a response from Tweetie's team regarding the full-size image preview as soon as I can. -
Inappropriate?Yes, full resolution is paramount! I am forced to use Mobile Fotos until this gets resolved.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?Hi guys, Just to provide a little insight, exif and res are Tweetie issues. I can only speak for gdzl.la, but we're just passing along the post data, definitely not resizing or stripping anything out. To shrink an image before sending it out over our (ample) bandwidth, after you've waited patiently for a full-size image to upload over a cell network just wouldn't make sense. As I understand, image compression will be an optional setting in Tweetie 2.1. As for twitpic-style fullscreen, gdzl.la has been working with Tweetie to make that happen in the next release as well, and I can confirm that everything we can do on our side to make that easy to implement has been done. At that time, we'll probably offer a setting for flic.kr urls, but native loading won't be an option if you use them, as we can't alter flickr's server response.
As a stop-gap for the tweet text not being included in the api call, we're going to implement a batch queue this weekend that will convert your tweet to the photo title (public twitter accounts only), and also add any hashtags as tags to the flickr photo. We'll also be adding support for adding your mobile uploads to a photoset by default. We want native flickr as badly as the next guy, but hopefully this will help in the meantime.

I'm totally happy with having gdzl.la as the middle man if it'll mean continuing to improve the integration.
Adding a default photoset, a defaul set of tags and the ability to have the Tweet be the image title would be amazing. Go to it, Dan.
Any chance of being able to send EXIF data (for geoloation etc) as well? -
It's awesome to hear that gdzl.la is adding in some of the stuff I've been pursuing myself. Tweetie / Atebits hasn't replied to my messages yet so I'm glad that they're working with you to make full-size uploads and image viewing via Tweetie 2 :) Flickr4Twitter has the image hashtag / batching working already thanks to ebonical's tweetie_flickr project on Github and we already incorporate the tweet as the description (I kind of think a 140 character title could be too big). Thanks for making a great project but leaving out a few features at the beginning that inspired me to make an alternative tool.
-Steven -
Inappropriate?Tim, thanks :) We actually turned on a bunch of this stuff on Sunday. Tweet -> title should be automatic for all users. While we don't do any default tags other than iPhone & gdzlla, any hashtags in your tweet will be added as tags to the flickr photo.
Finally, for photosets, you can select one from your account page (http://gdzl.la/account if you're logged in). In the options on the right, you'll see a dropdown with a list of your photosets. Pick one, confirm your password, and hit save, and you'll be good to go! -

I'm considering getting BirdFeed for this feature alone. I have no idea where half the pictures I post to twitter are. Im really tired of this. -
Birdfeed is a great app and Buzz is a great guy, You should probably buy Birdfeed too :)
