Supposedly "not eligible" for the 3G iphone - AT&T rip off and terrible Customer Service. Can't even upgrade!!
Here's the story: I bought the first iphone AT FULL PRICE OF $600!! This automatically is supposed to make me eligible for the $199 upgrade. But while I was traveling in Mexico my original iphone was stolen, so I took off the iphone features on my plan of course. So I've been waiting so long to upgrade to the newest version and they won't let me because I'm supposedly not eligible becaue I don't have the iphone now (stolen). Before waiting in line for 2 hrs to buy the 3G version I explained my situation, but when I tried to buy it in the Apple store they refused to sell it for $199 saying AT&T was preventing the upgrade.
Soooo I spent forever on the phone with a rep who assured me someone would get back to me within 48 hrs----LIES!! It's been over a week. Worst customer service. I'm so shocked at how they treat their customers. I'm posting this on several forums/discussion boards like Twitter & GET SATISFACTION hoping to elicit some kind of action or positive response.
So I've emailed them and called them. Interested to see how they handle this and I'll be sure to report back.
Terrible that I have to go to such lengths & waste my time. SHAME ON YOU AT&T!!!

Inappropriate?Similar thing happened to me. I checked my plan to be sure I was eligible. I was, but to get the phone I had to switch myself to the primary account holder. After I switched the AT&T rep told me I'd have to agree to an 11 month contract. So at the end of the iPhone line, they said that I wasn't eligible for the 199/299 pricing. So, apple was great, AT&T is backwards (they'd be making $231 on my plan instead of giving up the extra $200 to apple). Doesn't make sense.
I’m angry at AT&T

Inappropriate?I waited two hours at the Apple Fifth Avenue NYC store for an Iphone 3g. When I finally got into the store I was told I was ineligible for an upgrade, even though I was an Iphone owner. I purchased as 16gig phone for $499.00. When i got home I called ATT and they verified that I was eligible for the upgrade cost of $299. I was directed to go back to the Apple Store to get my refund. The Apple Store personnel said it was an ATT issue. ATT says it is an Apple issue. back and forth three times. I feel like I'm on the Twilight Zone, caught between two worlds. They won't talk to each other and so far I'm out 200 bucks.

Inappropriate? The new iPhone 3GS is a ripoff! But we can still get Apple to fix it.
They are ripping us off! They want only $199 from new customers, but existing customers must pay $499... Even with a 2 year extension. It's right on their website: "For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB)."
We have to rise up and stop this. Apple has listened before. We have to make them listen again. 3GSRipoff.com
