Transparent background on PNG Export?
Is there a way to export to PNG with a transparent background? I want to be able to paste images into a Powerpoint or Keynote presentation (for silly execs...) and see the slide background.
Also, it would be great if you could export without Markup

Inappropriate?Hi there, I am working on a "selective export" feature which will let you export only the selected controls.
As for the transparent background, Mockups would look pretty bad over any background that's not white because of the rough edges of the controls...let me think about it. -
Inappropriate? The transparent background would be a big help, even if the anti-aliasing of controls looks rough (that's the style, right?).
In order to capture interaction/workflow I currently export the wireframes from Balsamiq as PNGs, use a graphic tool to make the white background area transparent, then import into my click-through or prototyping tool of choice. That's a total of 3 tools so I can achieve a transparent click-through! It would be nice to cut that down to two.
I’m hopeful

Hi there, yes that sounds bad. Can you please tell me a bit more about why the white background is bad? What's the final background you end up with? I guess I'm trying to understand the root of the problem... -
Inappropriate? There are really two issues for me...
I am placing the exported png controls very close to other controls, which need to represent a unified component. Because of the white (padding?) around each of the pngs I sometimes can't get the mixture of controls close enough to each other. The white background/border area acts as a giant spacer that I have to remove.
Also the background color that the controls rest on alternates between white & gray for me, depending on whether they are going into a dialog window or not. Often over the course of a design this flip-flops a lot, so it helps me to be background color neutral when I store images. :)
Final product is like this (though you wont' see the difference on a white background). If you open the image on another color you will.

thank you for the explanation. The good news is that if you update to a more recent version the PNGs exported no longer have the big white margin around them. -
Inappropriate?I have the same issue but with elements "hanging out of" another panel... specifically when I've got menus or comboboxs in a component being imported.
As it is, I take my exported PNGs in such cases and open them in Photoshop/Pixelmator and crop out the areas I want transparent before importing them into other mockups. Not ideal, but it works.
As a suggestion, could there be an export dialog where you could set the export type and have a checkbox for transparency?
I’m hoping for this feature... or else!

Inappropriate?I think I'll add a configuration option in the config file, as it seems that while only a few people need this, those who do need it badly and need it on all the time. So something like "useTransparentBackground" in the config file: http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock...
