Cant edit or delete previous form / configuration data

I cannot change any form/configuration data in any screen. Example -- Start track, Settings, Period (secs) I cannot delete this value with my backspace key. I can add new values but I cannot delete, so by default I have 60, I get something like 2060 if I want to put 20 secs.

I am using a Motorola Q9h smartphone running Windows Mobile.

Editing the bluemapia.ini in /Windows looks like it changes the value, but I havent run the GPS to see if it actually uses the value.

We will investigate if the problem is reproducable only to the Motorola Q9h or if it is due to Windows Mobile 6, that we have not heavily tested so far.
We will let you know. In the meanwhile I would like to know from other users if they have experienced similar problems with Windows Mobile 6.
Anyway, the changes in the bluemapia.ini file should work and at least you should be able now to activate your track with the right TRACK_PERIOD settings.

I have a Motorola q9c and have the same problem with the backspace key not working in any of the textboxes on the phone. Checkboxes and select boxes work fine. I appreciate the INI file hint for fixing this. While the Zoom In and Zoom Out in the Toolbar menu work fine, I can't zoom the image in or out with the volume knob or with any other keys I've tried. The volume knob acts as an up and down movement, like the up and down arrows on the D-pad. The D-pad works very well in all 4 directions, even speeding up when held down.

The convert of NOAA charts from KAP to TIF using the desktop version was a complete success and those nav charts look beautiful on the phone. Zoom (from the toolbar menu) works from the center point properly on the phone. However, on the desktop version, when I use either the Zoom icons or the toolbar menu zoom, it holds the scrollbars in place instead of staying centered, which especially on a Zoom In means I must scroll to find where I was after using a Zoom. This only happens with the NOAA charts. And if I had a choice of which was more important to have working, it would be the phone, so I'm happy.

The only other difficulty I've had so far is that google maps and google terrain won't load on the phone or the desktop. Google satellite does load on both the phone and desktop. OSM and all M$ maps load fine on both. When I check google maps and terrain in other applications I have on both the phone and the desktop, they work, though I have no entry for google terrain on google's own mobile app.

I'm in the US and we're mostly stuck with whatever the cell network providers decide to sell us. The GPS functionality in the phone is crippled by our Alltel and Verizon providers on the Moto Q series, to try to force us to pay $7 to $10 extra monthly for their respective proprietary nav apps, which even if purchased still won't let apps like Google Maps or Live Search to work with the phone's GPS. So I'd need a separate bliue tooth or USB gps receiver to get gps access on the phone, which will have to wait. So I can't provide any comments on my experience with how GPS works. I really envy you Europeans and Asians, who have somehow managed to keep your corporations under better control than we have. Keep up the good fight!

I also want to say how impressed I am with what you've accomplished with BlueMapia. You've built a beautiful app and I think what you are doing will have a huge future, making sites like facebook seem archaic compared to the more advanced communities you are creating. Mobile phone computing using web client access to apps and open source are the future IMO. Thanks so much for what you have done and are doing.

Try this. I am in US and my GPS works great with bluemapia now. I have AT&T. However you will need to plug in the phone to a power jack as the GPS sucks battery dry.

    Tully:
first of all I want to thank you for your positive comments and very detailed report.

We really need this kind of feedback to validate what we are doing here at bluemapia and take the right choices for our community.

After all bluemapia is for you and can grow only with your contibutions.

I see we have this backspace and volume control issues with the Motorola q9 series. We have seen similar behaviour with the volume control only once in the past with a Windows Mobile emulator that was not properly set, not on physical devices (although the motorola q9 was not one of the devices we tested).

Now, assuming you have installed Bluemapia Mobile for Windows Mobile Smartphone (keyboard-based) and not the Windows Mobile (touchscreen) version, I believe the problem can be related to Windows Mobile 6. We will do some tests in the next days.

Also, I see you converted some KAP files. That's great. I would like to remind you that the conversion process generates 3 files with the same name of the original KAP. They are all suffixed with _ALLT and extensions .tif, .bsb and .pol.

The tif file contains the converted raster maps, while the other 2 contain data needed to geo-reference the map. In other words, if you move the tif file to your mobile device, than you can open it and visualize the map. If you also move the other 2 files, you also see the Lat/Lon position of the cursor. The geo-referencing process is today an approximation as it is based on a polynomial calculation. Anyway we think this should be enough for a use in conjunction with bluemapia.com (NOT FOR REAL NAVIGATION PURPOSES).

We know this algorithm can be improved and we invite developers to work with us to write a better algorithm for this specific area. Our open source project on sourceforge.org and the bluemapia mobile public license (GPL) is there for this purpose.

Terrain and maps are not visible anymore because google periodically changes the addresses of their map servers. These addresses are in the ini file and with some work it is not hard for an experienced user to find the new addresses and change the ini file.

Next release of bluemapia will have an update button to update the map server addresses from the bluemapia server.

Hope to see some of your best trips and placemarks on bluemapia.com soon.

Here below you find the new map server URLs that you need in the bluemapia.ini file to have google terrain and map working again.

You just need to transfer the bluemapia.ini file from your mobile windows directory to your pc; substitute the MAPSERVER_DEFINITION rows with the new ones and transfer back bluemapia.ini to your mobile device, substituting the old file.

Your INI changes worked perfectly Marcello! I now have all 7 maps displaying beautifully on my phone. And even more amazing, I find that the center point displayed on those 7 maps is the same exact center displaying on the NOAA nautical charts I converted using your desktop app. I hadn't checked that before. This is a stunning achievement you all have managed here with bluemapia!

You might also be pleased to know that I easily copied the INI changes you sent and pasted them in a replacement INI file all directly on my cellphone. Didn't need the desktop at all. As you boaters might appreciate, this accomplishment in using a 4 watt cellphone to do what a 60watt laptop or 200watt PC would do is a big step in getting off the grid.

What is not so pleasing is the fits I'm having with this getsatisfaction.com website. I've tried many times to get back in here to post a response, but it never takes my login. This has happened from both the cellphone and the PC, in both XP and linux. I then ask for a new password to be sent to me and it says it has mailed it but nothing ever shows up in my inbox. The last time I tried asking for a new password, it said my email address wasn't registered. So I tried re-registering the email address and it said it already existed. I was so very careful about typing and did it all this last time from the PC as I knew how bad these issues here were. Yet I get messages sent to my inbox that say others have posted to the thread I'm in and what was said. So I just now signed up again with another email address just to get access here. I see no password being delivered to this new email address. I'll no doubt lose all access again when I shutdown the browser.

I also can't see how to login from the cellphone. I can't tell whether to use a comment or reply button to respond in a thread. The layout and supporting software here sucks. Can we please switch to another provider for this support/forum access for bluemapia? You need and deserve better than what you have here.

Very good. I've now also added a page here http://www.bluemapia.com/bluemapia/?p...
to describe the sintax of a MAPSERVER_DEFINITION, so that users can try also other map sources and add them to the list.
If you know of a new source that works with bluemapia mobile don't forget to post here and share with all of us.
