Check Out on the Web
I prefer using the web page for statuses when I have a computer handy, and I just read about the check out feature. Please add a Check Out button to the front page, under the "Search and Check In" button.

Inappropriate?thecorefiles, a "check out" button for the web is on our to do list, we've just been caught up on some other things.

Inappropriate?(to the theme of "The Clapper")
Check in <click> Check out <click>
Check-in-Check-out The-Bright-Kite
Soon, I hope. Soon ...
I’m wondering what the Brightkite theme song should be.

Blinded by the 'kite! Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRtAJy... -
Inappropriate?Ok, 6 months ago - that's half a year - Lesley said, the checkout button was on the todo list.
Well, i don't see one yet. Neither on the website, nor in the iPhone app.
How much longer will it take to give us that rather basic feature? For my needs, Brightkite is useless without it. -
We're actually rethinking how checking out works, so it's taking us more time than expected. You should see this option show up in the coming weeks. In the meantime you can check out by sending the LEAVE command via SMS or email. -
Inappropriate? In addition to this, it would be very useful if brightkite had an option to automatically check out of a place after a certain period of inactivity.

Inappropriate?4 months since the last update on this front...
I don't see how implementing a little "check out of your current location" button somewhere on the web site UI is such a big deal?
It really cheapens your web site when certain core functionality is unavailble and can only be accessed through SMS or email "UIs".
I’m frustrated
-
We are currently working on some changes that will basically eliminate the need for a check out button. It didn't make sense for us to add that in since it's going to change anyways. Sorry for the frustration, you should see these changes roll out in the coming weeks. -
Inappropriate?Any specifics on the changes? I haven't been using BrightKite much lately in part because keeping my location reasonably current--or not completely wrong with no checkout feature--felt more like work than fun. Also, people using BK like Twitter for non-location-related posts was getting to be annoying.
I’m lapsed.
-
I can't really give specifics just yet, but the changes will also help the people who use BK like Twitter to be less annoying. -
Inappropriate?I'll cross my fingers. Will there be an email announcement of the changes? I'll certainly give it a look once it's in place.
I’m hopeful
-
Yes, we will make an announcement on our blog http://blog.brightkite.com and on Get Satisfaction as well.
