Checking *out*
I want the ability to check OUT (aka "going off the grid") as well as checking in.
Obviously 14 hrs later I am still not at my favorite coffee shop down the street. But I don't necessarily want to say the new place I'm at (home, date, new coffee shop trying to get serious work done). This should be as easy as flipping the privacy switch on the homepage or clicking the lock button on the upper right of the iPhone interface.
I love your service and love that I get to watch it evolve daily. Keep up the kickass work!

We actually had "check outs" in the original Brightkite prototype. They went away but we are bringing them back. Expect to have the ability to check out very soon.

add to them the ability to "time-bomb" a check in: i.e. check into a location for 2hrs, 8hrs, 15mins etc etc so that you do not need to log back in just to check out. this will be very useful for making sure info is as up to date as possible, which is crucial

the 'future checkins' thread lets you schedule the check-ins as well as the check-outs. for instance id like my work schedule to be in bkite and check me into the office automatically. -
@donpdonp, what "'future checkins' thread"? Are you just mentioning an already existing feature request on GetSatisfaction, or is this feature available somewhere already?

There should be somewhere that you can describe where you are, as well as giving the location. With the advent of cell phones with internet connectivity, we're not always just sitting somewhere with an address. So you could put "Stuck in traffic" in "Chicago", or "On my way to Dallas" driving through "Little Rock".
