Google Latitude Integration
Is there going to be google locations integration ever? A way that you send your brightkite location to google to update your google location?

Inappropriate? Why, when latitude is ripping them off? It looks exactly like the people near me map.
-
Inappropriate? That's a good point. But I know a lot of people with google accounts that do not use brightkite, so if there was so way to keep up with both groups that would be cool.
-
Inappropriate? We might offer such integration down the road, if Google offers a way to do that (right now they don't).
-
Inappropriate?I still like BrightKite as a way to "mark visited places". Where Google Latitude only shows current location.
I don't see how BrightKite would be able to integrate this as with Latitude it is always on, unless it drew a line of visited places which would suck if driving on the highway. You never visited those places, you just drove by them.
I’m amused
-
Inappropriate?Well, I was thinking something like it would just manually update your location when you checked it on BrightKite. The same way that it pushes updates to your twitter account. And of course you would be able to have full control over what was being sent to google.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I just want someone besides the single app for the iPhone...., SMS sucks!
-
Inappropriate?I agree with Adam's second point. Having tried both I'm sticking with brightkite - but - I have a set of friends who will in all likelihood go with google (since it's google - at least that's what they say).
It's like IM clients - some friends on each network but I work with an aggregating IM client.
I was thinking - latitude gives you the ability to add friends - how about if you added your brightkite e-mail address as a contact? Only issue here is that I can only see read from latitude - not write to it :( -
Inappropriate?I'm still waiting for two-way integration between Brightkite and Fire Eagle. Two way integration between Brightkite and Google Latitude would be awesome as well. I want updates to one service to update all three of them!
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?I'm a big sms user and I hate firing up Google Maps + Latitude. Duplicity is not fun when you're on the go. Hopefully Google open's up their API for latitude.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?BrightKite is too much effort for a GPS enabled device. With latitude I open up Google Maps and bang, it updates my location automatically using the GPS. I want BrightKite to know where I am and act accordingly and Google Latitude is one way to do that.
I’m confident

Their official API is not available yet, but when it is we will look into it. -
Inappropriate?Even before the API, it is possible to use the Google Public Location Badge - http://www.google.com/latitude/apps/b... - it is here now and it works. Brightkite could pull it periodically and check-in if changed.
If not, maybe we could develop an app that pulls it periodically and checks in Brightkite if it has changed...
I’m excited

Inappropriate?I think it would just be nice to have the ability to update Google Latitude with BrightKite the same way that it updates facebook or anything else. All Latitude needs are the GPS coords to be passed in.
-
Inappropriate?I'm still waiting for Brightkite/Fireeagle two-way integration. When is that going to happen?
-
Inappropriate?I just wrote a crontab-able shell script to automatically check-in a Google Latitude position in Brightkite. It uses the Google Public Location Badge and it works for me : http://serendipity.ruwenzori.net/index.php/2009/06/05/automatically-check-in-your-google-latitude-position-in-brightkite
I’m ecstatic
-
Updated version of the Google Latitude to Brightkite script checks-in with Brightkite only if position has changed - http://bit.ly/10ls2U -
dead link. -
Inappropriate? So, Brightkite, how are you doing in getting the Fire Eagle to Brightkite integration done? We've been waiting for more than a year now.
I’m undecided
-
It's still in the works. It is related to this bigger project we are working on, which needs to happen before we can start pulling from FE.
