Inappropriate?Hi santhosh, you can input the latitude and longitude coordinates for your location into the Place Search at the top of the page.
http://getsatisfaction.com/brightkite...
Once you do that you can create a placemark for that location so that you don't have to enter the coordinates each time you want to check in there.

Unfortunately when you do this, it doesn't really make this location searchable by other users, they would still have to manually input the coordinates themselves. In the future we will have an option for users to update and correct location info in the database, but we don't have an ETA for when that will be implemented.

Inappropriate? Why is this the case? I imagine it might have to do with the way the *same* physical place is actually multiple place objects owned by various different users, making for too many search results if the location search queried all users place objects. I hope this isn't how it is being handled, since it would make much more sense to allow users to share place objects and allow them to merge places that logically are the same (with the consensus of the original place objects' owners).
Is there a public developer/testing forum available for BrightKite? I really like the service but I think it needs a lot of work. Based on the interaction I see from users and developers here, there isn't much outward indication of progress on this application. I would like to offer my assistance in a more proactive manner of providing feedback and testing on upcoming features or changes (I am used to working with development snapshots with software I use frequently).

Hi Jonathan, we actually have some things in the pipeline that will improve this behavior down the road. We don't really have a public developer/testing forum available, aside from our API Google group, which won't really be that helpful for what you want to do. If you have any feedback/suggestions please feel free to list them here in Get Satisfaction, or you can email me directly at lesley[at]brightkite.com. Thanks! -
I hope I don't come off as rude, Lesley, since I appreciate you taking the time to keep us up-to-date with the situation at BrightKite; however, it is extremely annoying to always get these ambiguous responses that don't actually give us any real detail or timeline in regard to these changes "in the pipeline". I imagine this is because you may not have access to that information, but you should consider asking whomever does to think seriously about giving BrightKite's fans a bit more to be excited about. I frequently wonder if BrightKite isn't just having trouble staying afloat since there hasn't really been much tangible updates at all in recent memory, as far as I am aware.
Thanks for your time to address your fans' concerns and especially for your patience with me. -
I completely understand your frustration. I actually do have access to this information and I assure you that we are not having any trouble staying afloat. We are just not disclosing any details at this time.
We did just release our Android application http://blog.brightkite.com, which is a pretty significant update, and we're very excited about the work we are doing for the website. I apologize for being so vague, but please bear with us, our team is working extremely hard to get these changes out as soon as we can.
