No confirmation code by sms for aussie mobile :-(
Not receiving a SMS confirmation code to my phone - phone plan through virgin mobile (not pay as you go), australia. +614XX XXX XXX number. Still receiving sms from other people though. Help! :-(

Inappropriate?A friend of mine is experiencing the same - she is receiving text messages from others, but cannot get a confirmation sms from BK, despite trying now for about a week. She was here today and we deleted her mobile number and put in a different one (a payg mobile I have), and the confirmation code came through almost immediately. We deleted the payg and put her number back in and requested a code - nothing.
So I know it's not BK, but I'm baffled about what it could be. Both the number I put in and hers are on UK O2 payg. We tried the O2 website, even signing up for on-line account management, and weren't able to get anywhere. I know it doesn't solve any general problem there is, but to fix her particular case, is there any way someone from BK could possibly confirm her mobile number? -
Inappropriate?I should add also, that I just tried the confirmation code through my husband's iPhone - same type of account plan through same mobile phone provider - and it came through instantly. Wondering if it is my phone (Nokia Navigator) or maybe to do with the fact that it's a new number that I got with a plan just this week. I've only had the number for 7 days. Confused much? Yes!

Support says that your number has recently been ported, which often prevents these numbers from receiving messages from short codes. If this is not the case, let me know and I'll contact them again. Have you tried contacting your mobile carrier to see if our number is being blocked for whatever reason? -
Inappropriate?I am Softbank mobile user in Japan. I can't receive confirmation codes, too. I hope I can use also in Japan. thank you.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like Softbank is a supported carrier in Japan (currently only NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone K.K. are supported). If you can send SMS->Email then you can still use the Brightkite SMS commands to check in and post notes, you would just need to send them to your xxxx@bkite.com email address. -
Inappropriate?Thanks Lesley. I've checked witrh Virgin Mobile and they said there is no restriction on my account, but they will look into it. If it's an issue with a ported number, does that mean it will never be able to receive the confirmation sms?

I will double check to see if there are any other options, but I was told that there's really nothing we can do for ported numbers. :(
