SMS checkin - no confirmation or posting
I have Verizon and I use SMS to checkin. I'm able to locate the placemark but when I try to checkin, I do not receive a message or confirmation. I have no problems checking in online and I have been unable to checkin via SMS since last Monday.

Inappropriate?Works fine for me when I check-in via SMS. I receive the SMS check-in confirmation shortly after I send the check-in text. Might be an isolated problem? Maybe you can use mobile web to log into Brightkite and check if it actually worked.

Inappropriate?I too am a Verizon customer, and I have not been able to use Brightkite's SMS (sending or receiving) since about the same tile opilai reported this problem.
In fact, when I deleted my phone number and attempted to re-add it, I never received a confirmation code. So it doesn't seem to be just an issue with the short code on Verizon.
I could use the website instead, but I have unlimited SMS messages while Web access is billed to me at the exorbitant rate of $1.99 per megabyte.

Inappropriate?With the kind help of Brightkite, I figured out that my Verizon mobile number was placed on a 30-day stop list when I tried to send an SMS after my phone was disabled due to late payment. Even though I made good and Verizon restored my service immediately, the stop list sticks for the full 30 days. This policy is handed down by Verizon, not Brightkite.
So the solution lies both in patience and in timely bill payments!
