Were custom checkins (@[Location]) removed in Brightkite 2.0?
I know in the old Brightkite, you could do custom place names with the brackets. Is this still implemented and if so what's the syntax?

Yes, that syntax was taken out. In 2.0 if you search for a place and scroll down to "not in this list" you can add a place and give it whatever name you like. Unfortunately this can only be done on the website and in our upcoming iPhone update, but we are working on expanding it.
