BumpTop 1.13 Preview VIP Build 3852 Now Available
We've been seeing some serious crashes in 1.12 (build 3706) and have been working hard to resolve these.
In particular, this build should address these issues:
- updater in previous VIP build (3706) was broken! Thanks to all the users who reported this. All VIP users will have to manually install this build to ensure future updates are installed properly
- random crashes, especially when BumpTop was in the background
- compatibility with high DPI scenarios on new first-run screen
- fixes for some visual glitches
- other minor bugfixes based on crash reports

I'm sorry, but after sending an email with subject >VIP Tester< and an email with the subject >'VIP Tester< to 'feedback@bumptop,com' weeks ago and a new one this night, there's no link coming from you to my email account and even no one to my spam folder. What's going wrong? Is there a direct way to download this vip build? Please help. Thanks a lot!

Give the build a try - I just took a look at the crash report from 3038 that you submitted, and the issue is related to the physics and the placement of items on your desktop. As a result, you *may* still encounter the problem.
The new VIP build should have safeguards that prevents that bad condition - but once your scene file is in that state, you may have to reset it to fix it.
Let me know - and we'll figure it out =) -

wow already im noticing a differance. much faster, better quality graphics, huge overall differance A+ compared to two versions ago. (just from first couple secs running)

Please do submit any crash reports you get with that VIP build. We're looking to wrap things up this week, so ANY crash reports you send in will be extremely valuable to us.

Inappropriate?Really happy with the update! Quick suggestion: When launching an icon/object on the desktop, please execute the launch in a completely separate thread. I double clicked on a word document by mistake and (since I had a gazillion things loaded on my laptop) it took a while for MSWord to finally launch. During this time BumpTop was completely hung up waiting for the OS execute call to complete. Possibly an animation on the icon while BumpTop monitors the separate thread and the animation could stop once that thread completes. Then the user knows that it's been launched (and it's working on it) so they don't go launching it again.. yet they still have control to continue workflow. Let me know if I should put this in a different thread/forum. Cheers /m

I haven't seen a Bumptop update since May so I'm anxious to test the new features...

The hold-for-right-click-menu should still be working. You're on Windows 7? Holding your finger down on the screen does NOT open the right click menu? -
Press and hold for right click works in Win 7 for my Touchsmart tx2 1025dx, But not for my HP tx1499us. The tx1499us only has a passive tablet though. And that doesn't support WMTouch events. So that could be your problem.

Yes, I have a passive touch tx1314ca. But Bumptop USED to support "press 'n' hold" on it! It no longer works since I updated.

Inappropriate?I see no difference ... but can you add support for opening folders in folders in the gridded pile view? Please? And how about automatically changing backgrounds like in Win7? When are widgets coming?

A VIP build with widgets is 2 weeks away.
Automatic background changing - we'll consider this.
Opening folders in folders in pile view... this is probably coming later, since we have some other features we're looking to introduce as well... I'm excited =)

Full web integration via widgets, allowing you to drop in webpages and interact with these webpages directly. You will be able to leverage any web gadgets/widgets, especially Google Gadgets.

also, when you set a camera angle (for instance, top left corner) and you double click on one off the walls, the camera resets to the top-down view again. so shouldn't there be an option for making the top left corner a permanent/default view?

This is a known issue in v1.1x. We should have this fixed in v1.5

How about an option to request a theme refresh via API or in some other way (maybe even a hotkey)?
Ideally, one could also perform a partial refresh - just floor or one of the walls, but not the icons and the rest of the theme. But even a hotkey would be pretty good.
One could then use any existing wallpaper changer, including integrated one or even write his own to include changing of walls.
I think this would open a couple of other possibilities as well. -

This error is due to the installation of the C++ redistributables that BumpTop relies on.
I will post up a different installer for you that does not install those libraries, and we'll go from there. -
Inappropriate?I had a lot of crashes with 3706 build, when changing angles (but no feedback option). No more crashes with the latest build. :)
Another bug with the previous version was, when (re)starting BumpTop, it would, sometimes, show it at a strange angle:
I'm not complaining, of course - this bug was great fun (and pressing "reset camera" fixed it)!
This version, however, takes a long time to launch a new explorer window. At least five seconds, even if the folder is empty.
This isn't a huge issue for me, since I'm using xplorer2 most of the time.

I installed the latest version and reseted the computer. I seems explorer delay is gone now.

Inappropriate?I have been getting a slight graphics issue. I made changes to the settings.json file and changed this line: "yDist" : 2.0, to "yDist" : 0.1,
And when I change that, Bumptop changes the line to: "yDist" : 0.1000000014901161,
So the result is the error below:

Inappropriate?With this new build, I'm getting an occurrence (happened 3x now) where for no reason (idling) it ramps up on CPU time and stays at 50%. It's practically unresponsive, and I need to right click on the systray icon and wait....... until finally I get the menu and I exit the app then restart it and it's fine.
Dunno what it's doing or getting delayed on, but is it a multicore app? If not, that would explain the 50% and not 100%, since I have a dual core.
Here's my specs:
E6600 Dual core 2.0 ghz approx.
GT8300's in SLI
eVGA nForce-SLI Mobo
Windows 7 RC
and FYI, I have a good amount of pics on the desktop, but in BT they're piled neatly -- so I'm guessing like 80 or so objects/pictures.

May have found what it could be: The 80+ pics I had on the desktop were each 5-6mb 12mpixel large images. I had unchecked the windows thumbnails in the Bumptop setup. So the hires thumbnail generation process was hanging bumptop.

Inappropriate?Can't launch settings on my Vista machine running the latest upgrade (10p CST, Friday night). See image.
Tried even deleting the Bump Technologies settings folder, which put it in 1st time execution.
Also tried running the BumpTopInstaller.exe to reinstall over it.
No luck.

Any chance you can load up the 'Event Viewer' application and send us any BumpTop Error messages under the Windows Logs > Application area? (it should be at the top immediately after you get this error) -

Oh, I uninstalled, reinstalled (the installer said an update was available so it did the update thing to the latest VIP build this morning) and the problem still exists. Can't get into BumptopSettings.exe :(

Inappropriate?I can not add a theme to my desktop. I have studied the steps and found out why. After opening up you settings and go to the theme tab, there should be a folder icon so you can drag the downloaded theme to. Well, there is no icon on mine and when I go to click settings, it says "Hmm...No BumpTop window specified for this Settings dialog to edit."
