Bumptop hang when loading
Hello,
BT pro - bought & downloaded last week, do'nt know exact version number - stop all activity when loading (when loading textures - not sure.
All texture are black exept one or two loaded perfectly.
Right click on taskbar icon does not work.
BT is not responsive at all.
I've installed BT on my 2 computers :
it works after a fresh installation but hang sometimes... (uplaoding photos to facebook for example...)
I'm obliged to kill the process to exit BT.
Then i Can't start again BT... (on both computer : same problem)
I've tried to delete all cache files, settings.json, scene.bump an .bak
i've tried different settings (AA on/off, etc...)
Nothing changes...
Something strange : tutorial is always working fine !
All two computers are under Vista 32 Bits service pack 2, 4 Go ram
- 8800 gts , latest nvidia for the first computer
- 9800m GTS for the second one (a laptop) latest laptop driver
I've tried to launch BT with all the non-necessary apps a processes killed... Nothing changes... Firewall off, Some apps like rocketdock, Rainlendar, wich are installed on my 2 PCs where killed too...
BT is useless as is !

I received your email ticket as well, but I will respond here since it has a chance of helping others as well.
Go into %APPDATA% (Start, Run, %APPDATA%) and delete the Bump Technologies folder entirely.
Once that is done, can you uninstall your version of BumpTop, then reinstall with this?

I just want to make certain you have the latest version with a clean profile before we start troubleshooting. -

Is there an incompatibility list with other software somewhere ?
It is quite strange to have exactly the same problem onto 2 different computers ....
I will have a look to running services on both computers ...

Inappropriate?There is an icon on your desktop that is causing the problem.
Can you remove half of the icons from your desktop and restart BumpTop and see if the problem persists? Continue removing items until you find BumpTop is loading textures. It'd be great if you could send details of any icon/file type you identify as being the problem as we would incorporate fixes into our next version. -

So,
I removed all shortcuts, application, files and folders from my desktop ..
(only my computer, my document and trash where present on my desktop...)
Fresh install of bumptop ...
BT Seems to Run fine (just crashed with a wite screen on first launch...)
I've copied back one by one all my things to my desktop, quiting and re launching Bumptop each time and it seems to work fine for now .. I will try to do this onto my second computer and tell you if it works...
If BT do not launch and hang as I said before I'll tell you too ..

I did exactly the same on my desktop computer ... (the previous one was my laptop) and :
It hang while loading ... Exactly the same problem ...
The fresh install did not work at all ...
ill try to do it again ... Myabe I've missed something ...

Anyway, you can safely eliminate any missing files from your installation. If there were missing components, you would see error messages - not blank icons.
The blank icons are because our texture loading process is failing to load. We're working to improve this in v1.5, but for now, if you can identify the problematic file, send it our way.
Clearing your image cache in %APPDATA%\Bump Technologies Inc.\BumpTop\Cache may also help.

On my desktop Computer : it hang again ...
So what i've found :
The first time BT crash or hang for an unknown reason, it put the program in a such state, that it cannot be re-run again ... Each time i need to flush all the BT files and re install ...
Even if a shortcut causes a crash, when I move it somwhere else BT cannot be re run ...
It's a bit boring ...
(maybe shortcuts to internal drives could be the cause ... I need to verify that, but I need before to successfully launch BT ...)

Now, Just after a fresh install, it crashes after the tutorial ... wich is always working fine ....

Not necessary, the last shortcut I've putted on my desktop before BT's crash was a shortcut pointing to an internal drive wich is working quite well...
But, On my 2 PC's, i had the first times BT crashes, a shortcut pointing to an external drive wich is not always plugged ... On my laptop, there is no such shortcuts now ... And it seems to work ...

I'll be happy to do it but... How can i do it ? Where can i find this report ?

In Windows XP
1. Start, run, "drwtsn32 -i"
2. Start BumpTop / trigger the crash.
3. Look in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson and email us user.dmp and any other generated files (look at the file creation date.)
In Windows Vista
1.Create a WinError.reg file that contains:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting]
"ForceQueue"=dword:00000001
2. Double click on the .reg file and add it to the registry.
3. Reboot
4. Start BumpTop / trigger the crash.
5. Look in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue
and send us any WERXXXX.tmp.mdmp, WERXXXX.tmp.version.txt and WERXXXX.tmp.appcompat.txt files to feedback@bumptop.com. (Again, look at the file creation date to make sure you are sending us the appropriate files for the crash.)
Please RAR up any of the files you send us to keep the file size small.

i have removed the 5 last added files from my desktop --> BumpTop run
then i have moved the files back to the desktop --> BumpTop is still running
(i have not remove BT. i have only kill the process an restart it)
the file types:
.zip
.jpg
.xls
.doc
.cdr
i think that the problem was in the .zip file. there is an "%" symbol in the filename and it is the latest file that i have added to the desktop bevor BT chash.
