Perfect BumpTop
Here are some ideas to make bumptop perfect.. some ideas are taken from this site (i've only put all together so you can see the result) sorry for the quality but i didn't had time to make all in 3d and i've made everything with photoshop
SEE THE IMAGE BELOW
1-windows start button removed (with the whole panel, you can enble and disable this) and added an icon in the bumptop desktop, and when you click it the start panel appear (with a little of transparency)
depending of the place you are in the background will change, for example if you are in franche there wil be an image with the tour eiffel, if you are in Las Vegas there will be a photo of las vegas, you can apply filters to make day, night changes (not neccessary to have day and night picture of teh place)
2-windows with wheather, openable (there should be icons solid, paper, and cloth and when you have a windy day if the window is open the paper document begin to fly on the desktop, and the cloth begin to move, solid din't do anything)
3-television.. like the photo frames you should be able to select if play a movie that you have on the pc or a youtube movie, you can select a folder with movies and they will be played, or if you select youtube you can chose if play your account movies, or someone accounts movies or by keyword (the tv it's a furniture.. see point 4)
4-furnitures.. they should be downloadable or buyable (if you want make some money-but please make bumptop freeware :D) you can have drawers and shelves where put your files, the tv it's a furniture, so you can have it downloading it or buying (for earning money maybe you can contact with someone that makes tv like sony, samsung and companies like that and maybe they will pay you for making little commercials selling their tv :P)
there will be some furnitures only for decoration, like lamps, sofa, carpets, curtains
5-drop on floor windows, wjen you minimize a window/application they will be displayed on the bumptop (they should be bigger than the other icons)
6-3d deskmate.. a little bit difficult but funny :P you have to feed it, when he pee or poo
you have to clean (when he poo throw it in the trash) if you don't teach him to don't pee on the files he can do that xD the same with poo (without damaging the files or real)
7-applications running in the background (hideable)
8-3d time, you can throw it shrink, grow as other icons, (or you can integrate it in the floor so you can't move it)
9-if you stick in a pendrive there will fall a pendrive icon (like in mac that when you plug it in its showed on the desktop)
THINGS NOT IN THE IMAGE
sorry but i've forgot some things :P so i write i here
10-you should can chose if bumtop its indoor (like now with walls) or outside, depending of what you chose there will be different furnitures, if you chose outside the weather will affect the desktop, it can rain and paper and cloth documents will be wet, outside there will be trees and plants that grow, and you can hang your files on the tree
11-solid, paper and cloth icons
12-you should bring back the damaging of icons- applicable only to paper icons and the deforming of the corner
13-mail, there should be an account linking with gmail, yahoo, hotmail and other mail sites, and when you receive some emails they will fall on the bumptop
14-change the "more" graphic (when you right click) because the windows default it's boring
15-add sounds-when you throw an icon on an other it will play a hit shound
16-make bumtop portable, i can put it on a pen drive and the pendrive folders will become like bumtop, and if i go on a friends pc there will be my bumtop application running on the pendrive (without the need to install bumptop on my friends pc)
17- make bumptop in lan.. if i have 2 pc connected by lan, and both of them have bumptop there will appear and other room (you can change from one room to an other with a button or arrow) and you can throw your files to the other pc and stuff like that
NB:some ideas are inspired and they are not mine, i only wanted to put all together
i've forgot some ideas :P when i will have some new i will write
them :P

Inappropriate?You know these are REALLY GOOD ideas!, The one I like the most is the window one, If there's a way for it to sync to a daily broadcast of your local city. Which will show you if it's going to be raining, snowing, windy, cloudy etc... through the window. Would make it feel alot more personal..... -

Inappropriate?In general, most are good ideas. Some can already be done, and some seem a little over the top to me though.
1.Windows start button removed – Is only good as an option, I wouldn’t want it to be default. I think having the background change by location seems over the top, it wouldn’t be hard to change the theme yourself.
2.Windows with weather – Has already been done. I don’t think wind would be a good idea though, too much passive movement and hassle if it displaces icons you don’t want displaced.
3.Television – Is a good idea depending on how hard it would be to implement.
4.Furniture – Is an ok idea. But I don’t think it should be a priority for now.
5. Minimised windows - Might add too much clutter depending on their bump properties, size and location.
6. 3D Deskmate – Nice idea, but sounds hard to implement and depending on programming, could get annoying fast (eg. Pooing every 10mins, come back in 3 hours and u have 18 poos on the screen)
7. Background applications – I’m not sure what you mean, but I think default management on the start bar is good enough, I don’t see how bumptop would improve that.
8. 3D clock - Already done.
9. Pendrive – Simple, and would be a nice addition
10. Indoor/outdoor – I think any idea that gives bumptop multiple setups is good, but having weather seems over the top to me. I like the idea of growing plants, but it’s along the same lines as deskmate, nice as an extra feature, but might be hard to implement.
11. Textured icons – It’ll be neat if icons can be different texture, but they’re so small, I’m not sure where the effect would even show.
12. Crumple/peel – Definitely want that back!
13. Mail – can already be linked, but no in the way that mail falls on your desktop. Some people get a LOT of mail though, so might not be a good idea.
14. "more" graphic – I’m pretty sure you can change that yourself through changing your windows appearance settings.
15. Sounds – Is okay, but only if it’s optional
16. Bumtop portable – I think portable is too hard and over the top, but savable settings so that you can load you settings on another computer that has bumptop might be a better alternative.
17. Bumptop LAN – Would definitely be nice.
I'd like to add two things though:
1. Lockable positioning - So some objects won't accidentally be moved.
2. Day/Night lighting - Lighting which changes depends on your set pc clock. Just something that would be really neat

We all like some fun stuff but this isnt a toy, its a PC desktop, a new way to organise / disorganise and look at productivity. Yeh its fun and colorful, but add too much and it stops being functional, becomes just another of those gizmo's people play with but dont actually need or benefit from.
Some of the above ideas, as addons or options would be nice for those who arn't too bothered about functionality and ease of use, and I dont see why they cant be added at some point as widgets / addons.
Some of them are already available.
The core of bumptop in my opinion should still remain close to the original idea; funtional, productive, and intuative.
But yeah, why not throw in addons and options to brighten those duller moments :)

We're flattered by this mockup. Some neat ideas in here for sure. We're chewing over the ideas and we do need to strike a balance between fun and usefulness.
We do plan on opening up a Widget API sometime in the future so you can of course make your own customizations too!

if there was a way to remove the shadowing in the corners i would support it fully (i like my white minimalist backgrounds shadow-free :P

Inappropriate?I like a lot of these ideas myself, but I really don't think the furniture and deskmate are particularly useful. Possibly as third-party appplications, but really shouldn't be a priority for the UI. Not a big fan of the start button idea either...

Inappropriate?Yeah, I like the last screenshot above this post (the one with the map), My idea is as follows: it would be neat if a world map could be used for the floor of the BumpTop program, and you could rotate the floor at least (though not the whole bumptop viewing area) and place your icons, pictures, PDF files and stickies etc. as actual 'cities' on the globe. They would "snap" onto certain places on the world floor, like major world capitals, for example. There would be a small city graphic that supplement the icon of the thing you place (though the icon for a picture, for example, would still be displayed on top of the city's graphic.) And you could even 'displace' a city and move it elsewhere, or throw it in the Recycle Bin if you didn't want the file anymore.
The user could either use Bumptop this way, or disable this mode to return to the normal Bumptop interface. This idea, if implemented properly, would be similar to a computer RTS game, except with BumpTop dynamics and no actual game elements, so that means no training units or building a base. I think a gamer would actually enjoy this. Isn't this a good idea? Or is it too complicated for a program like Bumptop? Thanks.

Want to send a file to another PC? Throw it through the window, which initiates a transfer to that PCs desktop.

Inappropriate?Hey DoubleP90 I love your ideas!! I know some of them are a bit over the top and not so practical as others have commented, but I really really like the deskmate! How fun and adorable! :p of course it should be able to be turned on/off so that when it's making too much a mess you can just close it or something, and it can be an optional gadget that you only install if you like it.
I'm so looking forward to having these features in BumpTop! Please!! XD
