Why did my settings reset and why are some letters blurred out in bigger font?

I started up my computer this morning after making NO changes to anything last night and my settings are reset so all the customized photos i had on the back wall are back to what they were and my "piles" turned into folders. The wall photos I have on the two sides are still the same.

I tried to make everything into piles again but as you can see from the picture they're just grey squares. When I spread them out in the grid I have no icons whatsoever.

Also as you'll see on my sticky notes certain letters as they get bigger are no longer letters and look blurred.

Why did this happen??
