Inappropriate?I'm not experiencing the same problem but CrashPlan Central has been acting strangely throught today. I cannot restore files from there. It goes back and forth between online and offline modes, and expanding a directory takes very long time. Worse, crashplan customer support doesn't reply.

TK, sorry you're having trouble. We did see your emails from this morning, but it's been a busy day because of the maintenance.
You'll see a response to your specific issue via email shortly, as it is different than Sebastian's. -

Inappropriate?Sebastian,
We apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing. We're currently performing maintenance on one of our servers and because of this, some customers assigned to that server are unable to connect to CrashPlan Central intermittently.
If you need to contact us directly or if you have further questions, you can email us at support@crashplan.com. CrashPlan+ customers get priority support and we do respond to all emails.
We have in our 2009 pipeline a server status page where customers will be able to see if there is currently maintenance being performed on their assigned server.

Thanks for your reply. I managed to set up the account a few days later.
I understand occasional downtime, I'm "in IT", and it was only a small inconvenience. It was a poor first impression from the point of view of my client however!
As such, I think the server status page (coming soon) is an excellent idea. If I could also suggest details of upcoming maintenance but placed on that page too (if it effects service), so we can make plans around it?
This is the first time I've had an issue with CrashPlan in a year of use, on many sites. I'm still a happy customer. -
Inappropriate? No problem, Sebastian. Thanks for the suggestion!
Don't hesitate to contact us in the future if you have any questions. -
Inappropriate?I've been getting this problem repeatedly over the past three hours. Annoying as I've got five PCs to setup and I can't do anything due to this error.

Inappropriate? It looks like my paid backups to Crashplan Central haven't been running either. I can't help thinking that Crashplan has sold their original paying customers out by offering the ad-supported version. We didn't have problems like this before. I can't even backup locally due to this authentication issue.

Inappropriate?I'm playing with the free version of CrashPlan, having tried the CrashPlan+ version a while back. One of my reservations with purchasing this product is the reliance on CrashPlan to be around in order to use the product. What happens if CrashPlan goes out of business and I don't notice and I need to restore a critical file at some point? Reliance on a central server to restore data scares me...and it's funny because it's this non-reliance on other services that CrashPlan touts as a feature...hmm....
I’m concerned and curious.

Inappropriate?I began attempting to use CrashPlan+ for the first time yesterday and today. I repeatedly get the error that Crashplan Authority is unavailable and it times out. I can try 5 times in a row, and one of the times will work and the other 4 will fail, but it takes a long time for them to fail. This is making things painfully slow to setup on 4 computers. How can I determine if maintenance is underway? This leaves a very poor first impression, and I too am nervous about what happens if the company doesn't succeed. When I purchased the product, I did not realize I would be reliant on a central authority in order for our computers to back up to each other.
I’m concerned.
