Why is it so hard to remove messages?

Half the time when I'm trying to remove a message or deviation from my inbox, I get an error telling me that "messages can't be removed at this time" or something of the sort, and sometimes I get no error message, but the messages are still in my inbox next time I come back. This is really annoying.
