Memory Card Error with Canon SD600 and Anniversary Edition
I just received my Eye-Fi Anniversary Edition for use with my Canon SD600 and my camera keeps insisting that there is a "Memory Card Error". I have filed a support ticket and am awaiting a reply (has only been a few hours), but I have searched all over the support site for information that the SD600 isn't compatible with the Eye-Fi card. It doesn't exists. So anyone have any idea what is wrong with my card?!
Thanks,
Dave

Inappropriate?Unfortunately the SD600, being an older camera, doesn't support SDHC memory cards (anything over 2GB), so it won't work with the Anniversary Edition. You're right that there should be more info on the support site about this fact. It's a popular camera.

Inappropriate? If you are unsure of whether or not your digital camera is SDHC, the site I like to use is DPReview.com. If you look under "Storage Types" you will see on the Canon SD600 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs...) that it is SD/MMC card. You want to make sure that your camera is SD/SDHC or SD/MMC/SDHC before buying *any* card (not just the Eye-Fi Anniversary Edition) that is greater than 2GB.

Inappropriate?Dave,
For more info about the differences about SD and SDHC, please have a look at the following Eye-Fi FAQ. Many users are unaware of the differences and that some cameras support both formats while others only support SD.

Inappropriate?Ah. Yes. That would explain it and could have been a lot clearer that this card, unlike all your other offerings, is an SDHC card. I see now that it does state that for the Anniversary card, but it is very de-emphasized and is not supported anywhere else on the site a prospective customer like myself would look as they are deciding on which card to purchase.
So. Now I have a card that isn't compatible with my camera. How do I go about returning it and getting one that is?
I’m frustrated!

Inappropriate?Dave,
Sorry to hear about your frustration. The online FAQ I shared with your earlier explains the fact that the Anniversary card is indeed an SDHC card that will only work with SDHC cameras. In addition the Costco Anniversary Card page
also states the the card "Fits digital cameras that use SDHC memory cards".
The Eye-Fi Anniversary Card details page states that it works in SDHC cameras and here I would agree with you that this is somewhat vague. As a result I will work with the marketing team to change the copy to be more specific so that others may avoid this confusion.
If you bought the card directly from Eye-Fi please contact support at support@eye.fi or call us at (877) 873-9334. If you bought the card from Coscto, you are in luck, you can take the card back to a store or contact them about how to send it back for a refund.
Cheers,

Inappropriate?I purchased the card directly from Eye-Fi and have contacted them already although I will now pursue that route further frustrated further by the redundant effort it will require.
I hope this thread will provide helpful information to both Eye-Fi's marketing team and any potential customers...
Please note that if a potential customer does a search for SD600, there are several items that come up, but the only one that I believe would have relevant information for this issue has a bad link...
http://forums.eye.fi/viewtopic.php%3F...
Additionally, it appears that Eye-Fi's product line has outpaced its documentation. For example:
"Is the Eye-Fi Card compatible with my camera?
The Eye-Fi Card is compatible with SD memory-based cameras. Please click here to see a list of compatible manufacturers."
This would lead a reasonable person to believe that his SD memory-based camera is compatible with the Eye-Fi card he is considering purchasing.
If the customer wanted to be completely sure and check for his specific brand compatibility he would find:
"Canon
Eye-Fi is compatible with Canon SD format models."
This would reinforce the previous understanding and would lead a customer to make the purchase confident that the card would work in his Canon SD600.
This, of course would be wrong and now said customer would have to hassle a refund or exchange through a parallel and redundant support system. Combined, this experience might just be too much effort to continue and go away with a bad first impression and request a full refund.
If Eye-Fi is going to be offering SDHC cards in the future, I would highly recommend that they very clearly indicate that it won't work in SD cameras unlike the information it currently has. Additionally I hope that they refine their support process and reduce the need for customers to endure a poorly organized (albeit responsive) support system. Either use GetSatisfaction OR your internal support process OR at least unify them.
Still hopeful about the technology in the Eye-Fi product line even if the company is struggling with their information...

I’m disappointed, but hopeful

Inappropriate?Update...
Eye-Fi has continued to prove itself very responsive. This is great! It is a rare thing today to receive quick (a few minutes) replies to emails. Natalie in customer support is to be commended for this. There continues to be some confusion in the support process, but sometimes life is like that. Being responsive sure makes up for human error!
An RMA has been issued and I am sending back my Anniversary Card and will be purchasing a card that is actually compatible with my SD600. I look forward to actually getting to use it!
Thanks,
Dave
I’m feeling better.

Inappropriate?completely agree, it should be more obvious that this product will likely not work in older cameras
I’m sad

Inappropriate?I have the same problem -- and since I bought the card in a US Apple Store, but live in Canada, my return will have to wait until my next trip to the US. Major pain in the ass.

Inappropriate? It has been many months since my initial attempts at purchasing an Eye-Fi card for my Canon point and shoot. My initial attempt with the card failed because I feel Eye-Fi did not make it clear that the Anniversary Edition card required an SDHC compatible card. My return of the card went efficiently enough and I had intended to purchase a card that was compatible with my camera, but haven't. I still see the Eye-Fi as an interesting concept and one that I would probably find useful, but I think my initial experience with the company dampened my enthusiasm enough that the product features are no longer motivating and I am no longer interested in making a purchase. I hope this is a good lesson in why it is critical to always provide clear information to your customers and to always communicate effectively and efficiently with them.
