Some feature suggestions and other ideas
Feature Requests:
1.a. Show the number of unread articles box for feeds and the (i) menu when feeds are shown on the cover page.
b. Put "mark as read" and "more" options on article summaries shown on cover page
2. Improve the preview pane
a. close the preview pane with some shortcut key (mousing over to the upper right corner is too slow) or add a button on the left side
b. add a print button to the preview pane (not very important)
3. Feed page improvements
a. Allow "show unread articles only" in the inlined content view
b. Add option with to display unread articles or summaries in reverse chronological order
4. Enable moving feeds between categories and renaming categories more easily
5. Trash articles across all feeds by age. Manually is ok, but prefereably configurable by feed (e.g., never, only articles older than 1 day, 2 days, etc.)
6. Make it possibly to add a new feed page from a url within feedly
7. Create a display option to view category pages in a sort of cover page format (feeds horizontal, articles vertical)
8. Prettify article/feed image placeholder when no image (e.g., skip altogether or allow a default image for different feeds)
Pie-In-The-Sky Items
1. Make initial setup even better
a. Allow an undo of configuration changes (e.g., revert to previous, allow a one click delete of a "best-of" category)
b. Have some more smarts to ease the time refining the initial configuration burden (e.g., feedly could use knowledge of whether popular feeds provide summaries only or full article to have good default article reading settings for a feed)
c. Preview a new user's initial setup before implementing it and allow options to exclude specific content (e.g., a bookmarks or feed in google reader) feeds from feedly (my bookmarks contain both my most useful links as well as a garageful of historical stuff I may want again someday)
2. Allow feeds to have different default personalities based on the category they are selected to be in (e.g. for a news category I might want the default view mode to be magazine in favorites order and to expire articles daily, while in another category view I want all those choices to be different)
3. Do more with the "best-of" category concept
a. Increase the number of "best-of" categories (e.g., design separate categories around left and right political opinion (no one follows both))
b. Get some web VIP's to pick their recommended top 10 sites around a subject

Inappropriate?Phil,
Thanks for the very detail list. We will look into it once the bugs are out and some of the performance improvments we want to do are done.
Thanks!
Edwin -
Inappropriate?Glad to contribute to such a promising enterprise, especially because of your responsiveness. Just today I have given up contributing to another web service I have tested for the past 5 years because I realized that it was no longer worth the effort required to give constructive suggestions or make bug.reports. They either no longer care or can no longer perform.
By comparison with Edwin's effort and enthusiasm (and I'm sure his team's as well) is like night and day. He deserves all the success I'm sure is coming his way.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Another pie-in-the-sky idea would be to expand on the search function. (See also http://getsatisfaction.com/feedly/top...) Some ideas (perhaps not all realistic) are:
1) Allow advanced options to search box (all blogs, site:, sort by relevance or most recent, unread only, newer than x)
2) Modify default search behavior depending on page being viewed (e.g., search current category only)
3) From clicking on an article menu item, find related recent discussion of the article's subject on other blogs or within subscribed feeds
4) Use search to create a view that groups articles for reading from across subscribed feeds by subject matter. -
Inappropriate?absolutely. search is a priority for us. I will try to give you email access regarding where we are heading: would like to keep that under the cover until it is ready for prime time.

Inappropriate?we were able to implement 3.a in 1.0b4.36. You should get the fix next time you start the browser if you already run 1.0b4. Thank you for reporting this problem.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Very cool and appreciated. Thanks. Sorry to not have more comments, but I'm facing a Friday deadline.

Inappropriate?no problem. I have come to learn that in the customer support world, no comment is usually a good thing. Good luck with the deadline!
