browser running when no window is open
I keep getting this message when I try to open Flock:
Browser is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Browser process, or restart your system.
I have restarted my system numerous times and I have uninstalled flock and reinstalled it twice. It was already crashing whenever I opened it so I followed the directions to delete the .default file. What is going on?

Inappropriate? This is definitely a confusing error message.
You deleted your profile (the .default thing) with your settings, bookmarks, extensions, etc. When Flock starts, there is a file that tells where Flock can find your profile. This file is still on your computer, and points Flock to the profile that you deleted. Flock checks that location and complains that it cannot find the data there.
The solution is to go back to your profile folder location (instructions here) and delete the "Flock" folder. This will get rid of the file pointing to your deleted profile info. Restart Flock, and it will recreate everything for you.
Does this solve your problem? -
Inappropriate? You know, this happens to me, too.
But what happens is, sometimes I need to shut down flock and restart it quickly because it's bogged down or something. So I shut it down, the windows disappear, and then I double click on Flock to start it up again and I get that error message.
If I shut off the error message and wait 30 seconds and try again, it works fine.
I think what is happening is that the browser windows disappear from my screen, but in the background, they are still shutting down more slowly than it would seem. And it gets confused that I am opening one, when one is still running (albeit, shutting down).
Hope this helps.

Karen,
I have seen this same problem with Firefox as well. The application is freeing up memory and getting ready to rock your next browsing session. Waiting a few additional seconds will usually solve things.
While I have not researched this, if you use a bunch of browser extensions, they might be contribute to the delay you are seeing. Your browser has to wait for the extensions to free up prior to finally closing. If you go to Tools->Addons, click on your extensions, and disable them, you might find your startup and shutdown times improve.
I wouldn't do anything if you're comfortable waiting a few seconds before opening the browser again, but it's something to keep in mind if your browser starts to slow down. -
Inappropriate?Thanks. Will do!
