No more people bar!
When I started to use Flock, the facebook, myspace, etc showed in my people bar. Now, it asks me to click any of the services below, but nothing shows. The widgets tab also shows nothing. I have uninstalled, forced service updates, nothing works. Even when I log into facebook, myspace, etc on my own, nothing shows in the people bar.. Please help. I am using OS10 Leopard on Imac Intel...

Hmm... I managed to get all the accoiunt information back. This is how I solved the whole problem and it seems not to be a corrupt database.
First I quit Flock, renamed the "flock-data.sqlite" file to "flock-data-backup.sqlite". Started Flock, saw that all account information was gone.
Renamed the new "flock-data.sqlite" to "flock-data-new.sqlite" and renamed the old backup to "flock-data.sqlite"
Voila it works as it should!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Hi oliverdouglas!
Maybe your database is corrupted. :(
Try renaming "flock-data.sqlite" to "flock-data-backup.sqlite" and restarting Flock. You will find this file in your profile folder. See http://flock.com/faq/show/64#q_61799 to determine the location of your profile folder, depending on OS.
In addition, if you could send this file to performance@flock.com via http://www.yousendit.com (it may be a big file), we can verify if this is the problem.
Hope this helps.

Worked the first time I tried. Great instructions, Thanks. -
I followed the procedure to find the backup file but it was not in that location. I like flock and want it to work but I've been trying to figure this out for months and can't seem to fix it. Is there a way to get one on one customer support via phone or instant message? -
Inappropriate?I had this problem too with the people sidebar that keeps opening every time I start Facebook. Chris Campbell, an Official Rep, solved it for me. Here is what he suggested: (His exact words)
"Flock will open the People sidebar whenever you log in to a supported social network for the "first time". If you click "Remember Account" in the yellow bar, then Flock will remember that you have logged in to that account before, and it will not automatically open the People sidebar in the future." -
Inappropriate?Thank you Justin, this did it for me. I renamed the file backup and it recreated the file and now I am back in business. Thanks for the help!
I’m much happier now!

Inappropriate?I have the same problem and tried to rename the sqlite file and now it works but I have lost all my account data etc, all RSS feeds are gone etc... Do you have a better solution, is it possible to rebuild the database?

thank you. I did exactly as you said and I'm back to where I was earlier this morning. This also fixed another issue I had with YouTube and the sidebar/accounts. -
this worked! im so happy. i love flock. im happy it is finally working again! -
Inappropriate?I reinstalled and it reappeared, fixed a couple of other issues to. There is an update coming soon. Think I will still use Flock(and search :) )
Twitter still does not work right , but twitter keeps changing , so probably takes a while to catch up
I’m undecided

Inappropriate?Has anyone tried the new Flock 2.5 ?
I downloaded it but have not installed it yet. -
I tried it, but I'm still having the same problems. -
Upgrading to Flock 2.5 is what made me have this problem at the first place. But I managed to fix it by renaming flock-data.sqlite (see above). -
Inappropriate?I followed the instructions above, it did not work. I'm running Flock 2.5 (only one I ever installed) on Leopard 10.5.7.

Inappropriate?Hello morwen,
Have you tried "The best solution from Karl-Petter Åkesson " ? Would you tell me what happens after you log in to any service (ie. Twitter or Facebook or MyWorld). Will the people sidebar open? Will the logged-in account show at the Accounts and Services sidebar?
Thanks,
Patricia -
Yes, that was the "instructions above" I was referring to. If I click on MyWorld, I get blank screen and there's a bubble pointing at Widgets that says "You don't have any widgets showing!" Sevelct from the list, clicking doesn't drop down any list. Accounts and services is blank, so I can't "log in" to anything, there's nothing there to log into. If I click on People it shows "Get Started" and a tutorial link, says to log into any of the services above to bring my friends into the people sidebar. There are no services above to click on. If I manually bring up facebook in the browser window and log in, that does nothing to the People or MyWorld sidebar. -
Inappropriate?Hello Morwen,
Thank you for the reply. Would you try to start with a clean Flock profile by following the "Factory Reset" instructions at http://www.flock.com/tune-up/, please?
Thanks,
Patricia -
Sure.
Step 1) Can't do this, there's nothing IN Tools, Add-Ons, Extentions
Step 2) Can't do this, there's nothing in Feeds to delete.
Step 3) deleted lucene, but this did nothing as far as I could tell
Step 4) factory reset, deleted Flock directory, now I guess I'm starting over again.
Whats to say I won't lose everything a second time? I just installed Flock for the first time ever 2 days ago, and was just getting used to using it. I really do not want to have to go thru all this setup for a 3rd time. Copying it over to my other machine obviously isn't a solution if Flock is going to delete its acounts/settings/feeds/etc when I shut it down. :) -
Inappropriate?Morwen,
To clarify, if you shut down the computer, then Flock will delete all acounts/settings/feeds/etc. Thus, restarting the Leopard, Flock will be totally empty. Would you take a screenshot of the opened people sidebar and opened Accounts and Services sidebar, please? Will Safari delete its content when you shutdown the computer?
Thanks,
Patricia -
No, I never shut my computer down. I was reading rss feeds in it this morning on my iMac. I quit Flock. I got home, and reopened Flock, everything was gone. The only time it could have gotten corrupted or whatever was when I Quit Flock. (I leave my iMac on all day.) -
And no, Safari has never lost its setting on me, neither has Firefox proper. Since I've already followed your instructions to do a factory reset of Flock and readded all my accounts, do you still want a screen capture? If so, where do you want me to email it? I am not going to post it to a forum for all to see. ;) -
You can send the screenshot to patricia at flock dot com. Thanks ! -
Hi Patricia, I am having the exact same issue. I'd like to send you a screen shot. Thanx. Manda -

Hello Manda,
I'm glad to help if you would you describe the problem in details. You are always welcome to send me the screenshots that illustrated the problem at patricia at flock dot com.
Thanks,
Patricia -
Inappropriate?Morwen,
Since you have started with a new profile, are the people sidebar and feeds sidebar working now?
Patricia -
Also, is it still working when you restart Flock? -
Yes, people are back, feeds are back, accounts are all back. And yes, quit and restarted it several times, so far its ok. Although I set it to google reader and its again ignoring that. How do I get it to open the feeds in google instead of Flock's reader, or can I no longer use the feed button icon if I want to use Google Reader? -
Inappropriate?Hello morwen,
Thank you for the screenshot. I am glad Flock is working now. You can change the Preference for Web Feed. Please go to Flock ->Preferences... . Then press the Applications tab and search for Web Feed. At the drop down, change it to "Use Google".

Also, if you decide to use the Flock feed again, you just change it back to use "Flock". I hope that helps.
Thanks,
Patricia -
Inappropriate?Well it is set to Use Google, just like it was before my Flock crash, and it still uses the Flock reader. :)
-
Inappropriate?Well, but they are already in Google Reader, I exported all my feeds from there to Flock, so this isn't making sense to me?
-
Inappropriate?Morwen,
Apologize. I am a little bit confused. Would you explain to me whether you want to view feeds from Google reader or Flock feed reader at Flock, please?
Patricia -
Inappropriate?followed the steps. it worked! however, i think youtube and flickr is still broken. am i right?
I’m thankful
-
@Benedict,
Flock 2.5.1 is just released and fixed the Flickr issue. You can download it at http://www.flock.com
Thanks,
Patricia -
@Benedict,
Would you open the Accounts and Services sidebar, then press " forget account" under your youtube account, please? Then relogin to youtube. Please let me know the result.
Thanks,
Patricia -

Inappropriate?I tried everything as well (from all the different suggestions), but nothing worked. So, I finally gave up trying about a week ago and stopped opening the people sidebar. About five minutes ago, the sidebar popped open and started working.
I’m confused!
-
Inappropriate? Can u help me? i lost my people in bar etc...
how can i get it back? i'm using a Mac...
thank you.. -
@Nani Soebagjo,
Have you tried to :
1) disable all extensions or themes you might have and see if that resolves your issue?
2) forget your People accounts (Facebook or Twitter or YouTube, etc) from the Accounts and Services sidebar, clear all your cookies, restart the browser, and log back in?
3) If the above still doesn't help, have you followed Justin's suggestions?
Thanks,
Sophie -
Inappropriate?Guess what? I shut down for the night, and the people side bar did the same thing. Worked for about an hour last night. . .
I’m Even more frustrated and confused.
-
@John Fisher,
Have you tried to :
1) disable all extensions or themes you might have and see if that resolves your issue?
2) forget your People accounts (Facebook or Twitter or YouTube, etc) from the Accounts and Services sidebar, clear all your cookies, restart the browser, and log back in?
3) follow Justin's suggestions? If I understand you correctly, I believe you did, but I'd like to confirm it.
Thanks,
Sophie -
Inappropriate?Sophie,
1) No extensions or themes.
2) Forgot Facebook (the only account for which I had a subscription).
3) Followed the suggestion (with the exception that I did not send a copy).
4) From another thread, I tried backing up my profile and starting with a fresh load. This also did not help.
Last night it started working again suddenly after I gave up about a week ago, but this morning when I booted up, it was gone again.
One thing I didn't mention is that this all started when the People Bar told me I had to log off and back on for all the Facebook features to work. As soon as I logged off, the People Bar quit. . . -
@John Fisher,
It is strange that your People sidebar seems to work at times and not after you reboot your machine or log off...
Actually, could you please confirm which scenario you're experiencing ?
scenario A: your People sidebar is entirely broken, as described in the original post of this thread. There are no links, or if there are, they are not working at all. The People sidebar would look similar to this:

or
scenario B: your People sidebar logs your Facebook account out when you log off (of your account or computer user account), or when you reboot your computer. It should look similar to this:

If possible, would you mind providing us with a screenshot of your problem? Also, which version of Flock and OS are you using?
Thanks,
Sophie -
@John Fisher,
Thank you for the screenshot... It seems that your Facebook session cookies were simply not kept, which is why your Facebook account doesn't seem to be logged in upon a browser restart.
Please:
1. Logout of your Facebook account from Facebook's site.
2. Clear all your Facebook cookies
2. Force the service update. To do this, in Windows, go to Tools >> Options >> Advanced >> Update, and click on the "Force Service Update" button.
3. Restart Flock. This is important for the update to take effect.
4. Go back to www.facebook.com to log back in.
5. Important: select the "Keep me logged in" checkbox,
and when being asked, let your browser remember the password. This step will allow your FB account to remain logged in after a browser restart.
6. Restart your browser and check that your Facebook account is still logged in in the sidebar.
If that still doesn't work, please:
7. Close Flock and backup your current profile (http://flock.com/faq/show/64)
8. Install our newer version Flock 2.5.5, available at www.flock.com
9. Re-do steps 1-6
If you still have an issue, could you please start a new thread, as the original poster was referring to a different issue (scenario A)?
Thanks,
Sophie -
Inappropriate?Sophie,
I'll try that again, but I still don't think 2.x.x supports Win 98, so I cannot upgrade. I'll let you know whether or not it works.
