Linking to a folder on a memory stick
Hello
I want to make a memory stick using a flypaper story as a menu. On the menu there are 3 options 2 link to a website (which works fine) and i want the other to link to a folder on the memory stick. Can I use a button to open a folder on the memory stick so that it displays the contents?

Inappropriate? The way to do this is to use the relative path function.
The problem with this is that you have to save as a .exe if you want other people to be able to view it locally. Flash security settings on most computers block it if you save as a Web Story to view locally.
And relative paths only work for Web Stories, not in .exe Stories.
That said, here is the syntax for doing what you want to do:
1. Add a folder at the same level as all the other folders (resources, xml, etc.). Call the folder PDF.
2. Place the pdf files inside this folder. Let’s say the pdf’s filename is filename.pdf
3. The syntax in the URL boxes should be Folder/filename.pdf . The PDF folder should be at the same level as the Main.swf, so you specify the folder first, and then the filename. In this example, it would look like: PDF/filename.pdf.
If what you want to do is distribute this to people you need to save as a .exe. If you still want to include this other file, one way to do it is to make a jpg of each page and put those into your story.
I hope that helps. Please let me know if you further questions. -
Inappropriate?so there is no way to link to a file on a distributable CD, even after the updates?

Inappropriate?I just tried linking to a pdf file using a text button-open file. I then published an .exe file and then put it on a flash drive and took it to another computer. Everything worked like a charm. It appears the .exe creates a resource file in the temp folder, and it had to run through internet (maybe windows) expolorer, but it loaded the pdf file. I hope it works on a CD now!
I’m thrilled!

Inappropriate?further note: I noticed when I picked the open file option, and chose the file that it listed just name, not location. in other words instead of C:\sample.pdf it listed it as sample.pdf.
