Inappropriate?Hey PB,
Can you try a manual Download? Xmarks Settings->Advanced->Download. This will overwrite your current bookmarks with what is contained on the server, so double check your contents on my.xmarks.com before performing a download. Let me know if that clears it up for you.
Thanks -
Inappropriate? When I first downloaded xmarks it worked the first couple of times. I have it on two computers with each one using xmarks on FF3.5 and IE8. On my XP desktop both work great, but on my Vista laptop only FF3.5 works now, and I get the error on IE8. I manually downloaded the favorites again as you said to, but then when I tried to sync again, the error showed again. I even uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled, and I keep getting the error. Like I said it only happens in IE8 on Vista. The only way I can sync now is to manually download each time. Help!

Inappropriate?I'm sure Nate's solution, above, would have solved it had I not just stumbled upon another solution that worked also.
I did the Setup Wizard again, and when I got to the Sync Settings, I changed it from "Merge Favorites with the server, starting with this computer", to "Merge Favorites with this computer, starting with the server". After that change, I did the Synchronize now, and have had no further trouble.
I believe that Nate's solution was just a different way of doing the same thing. So, hooray! And thank you for your help, Nate!
Bobby, you might want to try the setup wizard way also?
PB
I’m relieved

Inappropriate?Hey PB,
Thanks for the update, and I'm glad you're up and running!
Bobby,
Could you post your logfile, around 10 lines around the error at the bottom of your logfile? That would help out a lot.
Thanks -
Inappropriate? Here is my logfile. Just tried it now, and got same error. Only for IE8. FF works great.

Inappropriate?Hey Bobby,
Thanks for the log file. Are you syncing with profiles? If so, can you change your profile back to <none> and perform a download? If that works ok, I'd inspect your profile and the bookmarks contained in IE, as there may be a bookmark listed as "hidden" in your profile, but it's already in your IE browser.
Hope that helps!</none> -
Inappropriate?I've found that if this error occurs while you have the log file enabled, it often helps to clear the log file, then try synchronizing again.
I suspect, but don't have any good way to check, that this problem is due to my antivirus program grabbing exclusive control of a file in the Xmarks database just before Xmarks tries to make some change in that file, and Xmarks not having any good way to simply wait a minute or so, then try the failed operation again.
