Does FreeAgent have any way of generating output in a form that my Accountant will approve of? A Trial Balance for example, that they can import into their own systems..
If my accoutant cannot simply import my accounts, then he will charge me for data-entry tasks, etc.

Michael,
Yes, it's for Viztopia but could easily be handled by any accounts production system. Your accountant might need to set up a mapping from FreeAgent codes to his/her preferred ones.
You should say you can offer your accountant a complete Trial Balance instead of just cash book data - we have all the VAT, Trade Debtors etc already broken out so it should be even easier than they were expecting.
Do get them to get in touch with us directly if they have any questions...
I’m happy

Just ask your accountant to let us know what format they would like. We are writing exporters for all the major accounts preparation packages on an 'as-needed' basis.
It would be even more interesting to find out what your accountant thinks is missing from our existing screens. We really want to make these useful for accounting professions to use as-is, without necessarily having to export into another package.
Feel free to either respond in this conversation, or direct to me at ed@freeagentcentral.co.uk.

Inappropriate?Quick update: as a result of accounting-partner demand, we'll definitely be producing a Trial Balance export tool for Digita, Viztopia and Iris. They should all be done by Christmas.

Inappropriate?Just to add a little colour on this - it's another way in which we're trying to reduce/eliminate friction. We're concentrating on the big professional practice systems providers to kick off but we will do what's necessary to meet the needs of as large a part of the user base as possible.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?FreeAgent can be imported easily into Digita's systems, used by 1,000's of accountants in the UK and Australia. We also use FreeAgent ourselves, and are Digita's approved resellers, so if you would like an introduction to an accountant near you that uses Digita to facilitate an easy import into the accountants Digita system, please contact me. steve@3-soft.co.uk

Inappropriate?Hi Steve, I'm delighted that FreeAgent can be imported into Digita but why limit the recommendations geographically - unless Cupcake 22021 is just up the road from you, in which case you're spot on as he must be on our doorstep!!
Also (and this is a criticism of the accountancy profession) given that we have to review (look at) the trial balance how long (and therefore how much) does it take to key in a trial balance? On second thoughts as a Digita user why am I bothered?
I’m happy that it has stopped raining

Inappropriate?@Cupcake22021. would you mind satisfying my professional curiosity? Is your accountant happy with just a trial balance to prepare your accounts or does he want access to FreeAgent or details of all transactions as well?
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Hi guys
My accountant is asking for my cash book in a 'suitable format'. They're suggesting one of Business Records Pack, Quick Books, Clearly Bookkeeping, etc.
I see you have a 'Transactions CSV' link on the Trial Balance screen. Is this CSV format targeted to any system in particular? -

Inappropriate?Ed, can you clarify what you mean by the transactions CSV being for Viztiopia - are they using Viztopia Accounts Production's Chart of Accounts?
-
Inappropriate?Charles,
Not at the moment, it's just a standard csv layout that we've been asked for (date, nominal code, description, debit/credit value).
We looked into it with one of our FreeAgent Friendly partners but the standard chart of accounts is less detailed in some areas. We're going to produce a mapping for accounts production purposes, but we didn't want to reduce the granularity of accounts in FreeAgent.
You can try this out for yourself from your Accounting > Trial Balance page.

Inappropriate?@jamesfranklin
It's not something we're planning to do at the moment.
Is this the format that your accountant requires your data?
-
Ideally yes, we're just starting to use quick books but I'd rather use an online app as the team is spread over 2 offices - soon to be 3.
Is there a way of exporting another format and then converting it? -
James, I don't think Quickbooks can import transactions from CSV/Excel, but you might try IIFCreator from BigRedConsulting (http://www.bigredconsulting.com/About...) - the Journal Entry Template is the one that most closely matches our Trial Balance CSV export format.
Do let us know how you get on...
