Remove duplicates
My feed is getting a lot of duplicates since I post microblogs with ping.fm to many different services that I've added to my feed. This is causing headache to those who follow me. I think I'm just going to remove some of the services for a while, but I'd like friendfeed to recognize and remove duplicates. For example, if I post "I just saw the fail whale!" to both Twitter and Plurk, I'd like them to be grouped so that people following my feed won't get both of them showing up, but only one and maybe a link to the other post next to it. How about it?

There needs to be a universal way to identify syndicated messages so that a message aggregater like FriendFeed can detect when messages are identical and group them together. Maybe something FriendFeed and Ping.fm (and HelloTXT) could work together on?
It would be cool to see one message in FriendFeed with icons underneath showing which other services the message appears.

Inappropriate?Ping.fm is definitely generating duplicates. I saw that duplicates detection has been implemented by FriendFeed for posted URLs - so maybe we'll one day get it for status messages as well...

Inappropriate?It gets even worse if you are using the FriendFeed app on Facebook. I also use Ping.fm to update my status on Facebook *and* status updates on Twitter and Pownce - and the FF app display all the dupes.

Inappropriate?Kristian, that is the way socialthing does theirs, they list the icons from the services that they detect the message in.

I just had a further read into socialthing. Looks like they're shutting down soon and replacing it with a new system thru AOL.

Could be interesting, but unfortunately it also means they're not accepting any new user accounts for the current system, so I guess we're outta luck for now Sid. -
