No Default Category
One of the biggest problems over at the StumbleUpon feedback forum (the same problem probably exists on alot of the other forums too) is miscats, mostly because people apparently don't notice the fact that you can choose what category to post in.
Therefore I suggest that the category shouldn't be set to anything by default and when people try to post without choosing a category there should be a pop-up telling them "you'll have to choose a category before you post" (or something like that).
If this was implemented there would be fewer miscats (in the SU forums nearly everything is categorized as Ideas (the default), but should usually be categorized as Problems or Questions) so it'd be easier to moderate the forums, as less time would be used to fix miscats.

Inappropriate?Good post, Meneth! I never realized how important these were until I started looking for particular items. It only takes a minute but it really helps keep this forum organized.
