nudge a company that has been unresponsive

Sometimes I get a response from a company and sometimes I feel ignored. It would be nice to have a way to nudge a company and maybe they could send me back (privately) an indication that they are... too busy, discussing a response, still thinking about an answer, etc...

I know it's sometimes hard to respond in a public forum, so maybe having a way to quickly convey the status of an issue would be helpful to the people complaining (I'm not always complaining :) and helpful to the employees that probably want to respond but can't.
