Unfollowing a company or product
I'm not sure what has changed recently, but I'm pretty sure I was able to "unfollow"/"unrate" a product or company (that I don't use anymore or that I've rated by mistake).
Is that option gone now?

To confirm, we now provide the ability to specify that you're no longer a customer of a company. For now, you do this by going to the company page, and clicking the "change" link next to the "customer since" date to expose this option:

If you see the "I'm a Customer" button instead, go ahead and click that to uncover the options.
I’m excited we're making progress

Inappropriate?you are, unfortunately, correct. we introduced some new functionality a little while back that broke the ability to remove products & services. yikes! fortunately, we have a "bug fix" friday coming up this week that we're going to use to add this back in.
our apologies for the error. we'll report back as soon as it's fixed. -
Ok Friday has came and gone, and I still can't get rid of these companies and products from my profile. Can you tell me how? -
It looks like we don't quite have it changed, but we have it in our tracking list of bugs/feature changes, and I'll keep you posted and let you know for sure when it is fixed, too. Thanks for your patience! -
Sadly, this did not get fixed yet. But, it is on our list, and my hope is that we'll be able to get this done relatively soon. We're pretty busy on our new company tools, but those will be done in about a week, so we should be able to get to this. -
Inappropriate?Cool, thanks for the info, Lane. Much appreciated.
For a minute I was afraid I just wasn't able to complete such an easy task... ;)
I’m happy I wasn't overlooking something

Inappropriate? This functionality seems to still be missing. Is there a fix scheduled?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Yes, it is still missing, garrettc. We haven't been able to fit this into our schedule yet.
-
Inappropriate?it sounds minor, but it's kind of a big deal: users probably don't want to be considered advocates of products they no longer use / like.
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?Three months and still no fix?
It can't be that hard to change. Can we at least get a time-line?
Or any bone thrown at us?
I’m frustrated that I'm being led on by Get Satisfaction
-
Inappropriate?So.... Is it time to abandon this product as un-supported or is someone listening?
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? We're still here, greggoodwin. And, yes, we are still supporting this product. I am doing my best to get a date for when this might be changed.
-
Inappropriate?Hello all,
I know you're eager for this to be implemented and that we had hoped to have it done sooner. As I'm sure you can understand we are a small team with a lot to do and priorities shift based on many factors and moving parts. This is something we know we need to do but I can't give you an exact ETA at this time.
Thank you, though, for weighing in on this! -
Inappropriate?I managed to rate a company purely by accident ...
You might ask, how could anyone make such a stupid mistake?
Well, it turns out that when I click in the company search box, a list drops down with some company names. I can select them with the down-arrow key. However, pressing ENTER at this point does not go to the page for that company, as a mouse click on its name would ... (I have Firefox 3)
So this is how I managed to rate the wrong company.
I’m a tad frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Does this also apply to companies I am an employee of? I changed the company I work for and need to correct this, however, I do not find a way.
-
Inappropriate? We need an answer on this asap. Had I known you couldn't remove a product, I would have NEVER used this. Furthermore, this makes it questionable whether or not to use Get Satisfaction if a problem like removing product is this hard to deal with. Can't it just be hidden?
I’m frustrated
-
Hmm, I like the idea of hiding or temporary disabling it. Well if that doesn't conflict with other features that is. Can it be done? -
Inappropriate? This is most disappointing. I'm sure the new CEO, Wendy Lea (@WendySLea on twitter) will get this resolved ASAP. I will touch base with her. This shouldn't take over 5 months to fix. Unfollowing/removing a product or company is a critical function to this type of service.
I’m disappointed
-
Inappropriate? As the new CTO I'm now taking responsibility for this. Apologies for the lag time on this fix--I can see how frustrating this must be. Let's start the timer again now.

Inappropriate?I would like to see this happen real soon! I need to clean up my list since it's huge!
I’m anxious
-
Inappropriate?Wow. This is seriously crappy. This kind of a feature has been missing for six months and then is still gone almost a month after someone re-takes ownership? WTF?
I think it's time to go...

Inappropriate? That is correct, Jonathan. We haven't implemented this yet.
-
When will it be implemented? -
Inappropriate?Would it be relatively easy for you to remove Tapulous from my companies list please?
I’m indifferent
-
Inappropriate?Just wait, over two month's time, some official will drop in telling us that it' a matter of days (or something to that extent).
Must be something that's really, really hard to fix.
I’m disbelieving and amused simultaneously
-
Inappropriate?this is ridiculous. this is a basic functionality that should have been implemented with the initial release of this site, which im sure it was, but just because the site is up and there are users now doesnt mean you can let it slide and 'try to fit it into the schedule'
im sure what the real deal is that as long as someone cant remove a fan of a product then more people will subscribe their products and in turn get satisfaction gets more money. awesome. you guys sure have it figured out.
I’m flabbergasted
-
Inappropriate?I'm ready to clear ratings and remove companies/products I no longer use from my dashboard as well.
-
Inappropriate? It's mind-boggling that a) this couldn't be fixed within days and b) that this issue is being ignored, despite Get Satisfaction's supposed *core focus* on customer feedback.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I can definitely hear all of this frustration, and I will be sure to pass this along again to the product team. As for the accusation that somehow not letting people unfollow products makes us more money -- well that flabbergasts me. This is a particularly vexing topic for me, as I share the desire to get it done.
-
Inappropriate?Yes, this *has* been frustrating. FYI, if this was a simple as toggling a state this would have been done months ago. Alas, an architectural decision from early in the product's life created secondary issues that forced this to become part of a bigger project. The law of unintended consequences in action.
I will update here when we release the feature. -
Inappropriate?Hey reps, I'm a software engineer and I know this feature can be a major effort. However, simply stating that you share our frustration and would like to see it implemented is doing little to manage our expectations. Can you let us know what stage the plan is in, if resources are assigned to it, and the estimate?
I’m anxious
-
Inappropriate? It looks like with the new update, there's finally an option to say that we are no longer customers of a company, but that doesn't seem to take the company out of the list of "companies I use." At least not yet. As Anthony said, an estimate on when the issue will be resolved would be nice.
-
Sorry about that, Rebecca: this is a page caching issue that is short-listed to fix this week. -

Hi Ted. The Javascript prompt for the removal could be more informative (confirming which product/company will be removed).
It's also unclear whether removing a company from the dashboard is the same as unfollowing the company. Either way, removal of the company from the dashboard still lists that company under the 'Products & companies I use' on the sidebar. -
This is great news. It looks like removing a company this way is the same as unfollowing them, so that's good. I just tried it myself, and as snkhan pointed out, this doesn't remove the company from that sidebar, so this isn't completely solved just yet. -
It's fixed now. The unfollowed companies don't show up in the sidebar anymore. Thank you! -
I'm guessing that sidebar thing was a caching issue.
