Inappropriate?I want to migrate a yahoo group over to google groups, but frankly, until calendar sharing is easier... I'm not going to. Having to manually type in the email addresses of all my group members and then force them to have to accept the calendar in addition to having to join google groups is just too much. At least with Yahoo when I make a calendar event, I can create alarms and reminders fairly seamlessly. Come on Google!
I’m irritated

I have it too. -
Inappropriate?Yea, I was hoping for the same thing. I don't like yahoo calendar much, there's no good print format, or import / export standard. Yet, the scheduling, email notifications, and such are important for so many groups. A Google calendar integrated into the group is a key required feature!
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Holy crap, I can't believe google is sooo far behind yahoo here. I know google has coded most of their apps to work together by making them very modular. They just have not connected a lot of them. This = fail. Then again google owns so much of the internet already, I don't think they care. And their stuff tends to work smoother to me than yahoo and with more minimal and still functional UIs

Inappropriate?I also had a group at Yahoo Groups and I finally got a workaround to this problem. I use the Calendar to notify about birthdates or other important dates, not for sharing events and multiple users edition. So, if this is your case, you can do this to get it working:
- Set up a Google Calendar account if you haven't done so far.
- Add events and configure notifications to be sent ot your email.
- Configure your email (e.g. Gmail) to filter the messages and redirect these Notifications (you can filter by sender, which is Google Calendar). These can be redirected to your google group address.
- Add the Google Calendar to your members list (if you don't do this, the messages forwarded will never reach the group). Configure this member to never receive messages.
If you set up all this, all your members will receive the notifications sent to your google account.
Of course I'd prefer the "Yahoo solution" but until it arrives, this is a workaround.
good luck

Inappropriate?Jorge, I couldn't get it working. I get a bounce back email from googlegroup, saying group either doesn't exist, or you don't have permission to post to
it.
When i looked into forwarded message, the FROM address is set as 'From: Google Calendar <calendar-notification@google.com>' and NOT the calender account that i created. Is this the reason for bounce back? -
Inappropriate?I guess nothing has changed here. I'm in the same boat and just charted out the whole process. I think I could make it work, but it's such a hassle. Everytime you add a new member you would have to update the mail group separately as well. With Yahoo once they join the group they automatically get calendar updates on meetings and events. I would use google groups and calendars for a variety of reasons but for now this is a deal killer because it will confuse the people who post stuff to the group calendar.
They ought to promote the group calendar concept but don't seem to get it.
Actually if they would just configure reminders so you can send them to the group and not just yourself so you can bypass the whole filter thing that would make it doabIe.
I see from the top of the page that "13 google employees are standing by to listen and respond" but will believe it when I see it. Apparently Goog doesn't understand the value of this to people who run groups.
Hey 13 employees! If you dont understand what I am saying join a Yahoo group and check it out! or email me so I can explain it to you.

Inappropriate? So the person "shoe" asked this question 8 months ago and Google employees following this thread (I'm assuming they're following it) have yet to respond? That Google fails to integrate Google Calendar and Google Groups is very discouraging to the various folks I've discussed this with. That Google employees can't find 1-2 minutes to respond to our concerns, well, that's just plain rude. Google employees need to understand that we, the users, are what makes their company successful. Without us, without our constant "searches", without our need to be online, Google would not exist. So, dear Google employees, please let us know something, anything, as to when Google Calendar and Google Groups will be integrated. It shouldn't be a question of "should the two be integrated?" but "when will the two be integrated?". Thanks in advance!
I’m happy when Google employees listen to their valuable users.

Inappropriate?Straight from Google, here are its lame suggestions for Google Group users wanting a calendar:
http://groups.google.co.jp/support/bi...
Note that the writeup isn't dated (they really should date them), so there's no telling how "old" this issue really is. I wish Google would just integrate Goolge Calendar and Google Groups much like Yahoo! did LONG LONG LONG ago.
Can I use Google Calendar with Google Groups?
Google Groups doesn't currently allow you to embed the HTML version of your Google Calendar inside a Groups page. However, you can share a Google Calendar with your group in two ways:
If your group consists of Google Calendar users, you can create a calendar that you share with everyone in your group. Events can be added and shared with the group, and everyone can choose to have notifications sent and manage these events with their own Calendar accounts. To use this method, please follow these steps:
1. In Google Calendar, create a calendar you'd like to share with your group.
2. Click "Settings"
3. In the "Calendars" tab, click on the name of the calendar you'd like to share.
4. Click "Share this calendar."
5. Enter the email addresses of your group members. Note that your group members will need to use Google Calendar to share your calendar using this method.
If you have a group that consists mostly of people who don't use Google Calendar, but you'd like to share your calendar with them, you can link to the HTML version of your calendar within your group. To do so, follow steps 1-3 described above. Then, in the "Private address" section, click on the HTML button. Copy and paste the address for your calendar, and post this address in a message to your group. The members of your group will be able to visit that URL and see your calendar.
I’m waiting for ANY Google employee to answer this thread.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Inappropriate?I added calendar-notification@google.com to my google group, with email notification turned off and all worked fine
-
When e-mail notification is off, what will work then? *lol* -
Inappropriate?Hello Doug,
How did you manage to add calendar-notification@google.com to your google group? I always get the message that this message: Google Groups will not add 1 user with a restricted address
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Daniel
