Beacons

Ok, this might be out there, but I have this idea I call "Beacons". Let me explain:

A Beacon could basically be something that is dropped at a location with a note attached to it. It would alert anyone within a certain radius (based on a setting) even if they aren't your friend. Why? Well, what if there's a sweet deal going on at a store and I want to let people know? I could drop a Beacon with a message like "Buy one get one free deal happening right now at this store". People within 2 miles get a notification . Of course, you can opt out to receive Beacon notifications.

A Beacon is not a spot because it can be time based, like an event and it also send out notifications. It is also not to be confused with Bacon.

Another scenario: I drop a Beacon on a hill somewhere with a message: "Awesome sunset! Check it out within the next 20 minutes before it's gone!"

I was also thinking about the potential to target specific types of people. For example, I could drop a Beacon and say I only want people who are locals to see it. If there was enough profile info you could drop a Beacon targeting 24-28 year old geeks, within a mile who like to read. This would be great for starting an impromptu book club meet up.
