Can I unvault an item?
I accidentally vaulted two of the same item and wondered if I could unvault one in order to drop it somewhere or trade, etc. If not, is there some plan for vaulted items to do something besides help cross off what you've collected so far?

Inappropriate?Unfortunately, at this time, you can not. Once in, it resides there indefinitely.

Inappropriate?Oh snap. I cast my vote for an "unvault item" feature. I vaulted a duplicate item as an experiment to see if the vault would display two distinct icons or increase the quantity of a single icon (it's the former, in case you wondered) and now that my research is done, I'd like to move it back out. Let's see if we can rally support for this feature, eh?
I’m disappointed but hopeful

Inappropriate?Good question, Ben. Not at this time, but it's possible at some point.

Note: I think it would be best if you couldn't simply unvault an item. That makes the ten-item limit on your pack sort of silly if you can also vault and unvault stuff from your phone. I think it would cool if there were some things you could only do with vaulted items, like send them to a friend or something.
A friend of mine had this idea: Trade-ins. Say you partner with some company to give away a bunch of their swag. Make people "give" you their vaulted bag-of-swag item in exchange for actual swag (you're remove it from their account and put it back in circulation). Or if Austin Pizza Garden wants to offer some 15% discount through Gowalla, have people trade in their vaulted piece of pizza item. This is clearly not a finished idea, but you can run with it if it strikes your fancy. It would help put things that have "run out" back into the economy. -
i'd think there would be limits to unvaulting, such as you can only unvault an item when you are carrying fewer than 10 items (i.e. there's space in your passport.) trading with friends, trading for items with interesting histories, ben's coupon idea, etc. etc. would add more fun to gowalla items. -
Inappropriate?i'd also like to vote for this enhancement. i think it would make the game-like aspect of gowalla a lot more fun. can we have this functionality, pretty please? :)
I’m asking nicely.

Inappropriate?I was going to start a topic on this, but I'll post it here instead -
I was wondering if you could include the capability to unvault items? I tend to prefer to vault something without many previous owners, however If I need something I'll grab it. I have vaulted something with a few owners then picked up a new version of the same thing, and I'd love to be able to unvault the first and drop it back into public -
what damien said. i'm not happy just collecting one of each item. i'd like to prune my collection based on various criteria. it's like baseball cards or pokemon. you don't just collect one of each and call it a day. adding the ability unvault items would add an extra element of fun to gowalla. -
Inappropriate?Should be able to move items from vault back to pack. Moved an item from pack and realized I already had that same item in vault, wanted to move it back to pack and could not.

Move from vault to pack.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I personally like only having one of everything vaulted, the only reason I'd ever want to be able to un-vault is on those occasions when I've found a really low numbered item I've already got vaulted, I would swap them out...
I have been carrying around a #35 water bottle in my pack for a while now just in case this happens sometime soon to replace my vaulted #1471, but I'm a little neurotic that way ;)
I’m hopeful

I would also like to unvault a duplicate item that I wasn't aware was already in my vault.
Having a swap option would be very neat! I endorse that idea, Megan.
Elsewhere: Ben, is there a method by which I can contact you regarding a recent spot present on the UT Campus? -
I think you should only be allowed to vault one of each unique item, and attempting to vault a duplicate item would prompt a 'you've already vaulted this item' message, and leave it in the pack. That negates the need to unvault items, if the goal of the 'item collection' game is to collect one of everything for bragging rights. -
Inappropriate?I'd also like an unvault option.
I'm playing on mobile/Android which means I cannot drop or pick up items at all. I only get bonus item drops from check-ins. So my pack has filled up quickly, with nothing I can do with all 10 items that I already have in my vault. And I can't get any more bonus items!
I don't want to vault them because I'd rather just have one of each. I finally broke down & vaulted an extra Koi today so that I'd have room for the bonus Security Bin item at the airport, because I had no other option.
Or at least, how about a small # near the item showing how many you have vaulted, sort of like the stackable multiples in a PackRat vault -- rather than having the multiples each showing in their own spot scattered messily around your item vault as they are now. -
Inappropriate?I vaulted all of my items without realizing they could never be retrieved. :( Is it game over? Should I just put Newt in charge?
I’m sad i can't play
-
You can still go check in at (or create new) spots and get pop up items to rebuild your pack, and then use those to pick up items or found other spots. :D -
Inappropriate?i did the same thing as some of the other's above, i vaulted all my items without realizing I couldn't get them out. Now I feel like I'm missing out. its not clearly labeled what vaulting means on that page. I mean, I put and get money out of a vault, so why not my items ;)!
I’m annoyed!
