can't get gowalla to work on iphone
i want to like gowalla. it looks positively fantastic. but it doesn't work (could be read as user malfunction). i'm in dallas and i've tried using the iphone app a number of times, but i never get beyond the "finding address" phase. i'll futz with it for minutes on end, trying to keep the phone (and myself) from going to sleep, but never any joy. but i can load up foursquare and have no issues at all. in fact, i've never had foursquare not work. this looks like a lot of fun, but i can't even recommend it to my friends since i can't get it to work myself. what am i doing wrong?

Let's start with a couple of questions, if you don't mind.
1) What kind of iPhone do you have? Gowalla heavily utilizes the GPS function, which iPhone 3G and iPhone 3Gs have, but which first-gen iPhones don't have, and which would return such an error.
2) Are you usually inside/outside, in a car, at a barstool?
3) Have you tried turning on WiFi? This can help boost signal strength in crowded metro areas.
You could do us one more favor: take a screen shot of your iPhone when it can't find you and let us take a look at that.
Thanks for bearing with us! We'll do our best to get you all sorted.

Inappropriate?3gs. tried it again inside the post office today. gowalla showed that i was 314 meters away from the location i was in and never came up with an address. the check in here button wouldn't depress ~ i'm guessing because the app didn't believe i was where i was claiming to be. haven't tried wifi. going out tonight, so i'll give it a shot and see if it helps.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?Ima take a stab and guess it's because you were on Edge at the time, at least for the post office spot there. Additionally, the GPS is marked with an "X" so even on Edge, it just isn't getting a GPS signal. Didn't think there'd be spots in/around Dallas (and so central to boot) that wouldn't have 3G service.
You don't have "Enable 3G" turned off in your Settings>General>Network by chance? -
Inappropriate?and we have liftoff. user malfunction. i was, in fact on edge and switching to 3g cleared up the problem. thanks!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? The good doctor beats me to it! Good job, Doctor P!
A note: WiFi helps even if you're on Edge. However, if you're on Edge AND inside, that's tougher...
