incorrect number of checkins
it claims i have 5 check-in's at a location.
I have 1 but there are 5 events amongst 3 people only 3 of which are check-ins
compare the numbers in the top ten list of the image at the right with the details under the map

Inappropriate? What you are seeing is the most recent check in. Hence the reason you're not seeing the check in from 21 days ago. Since creating the spot, you have checked into that location 4 more times. If you trade and/or drop an item, that event will be recorded separate from your check in as well.

Inappropriate?hmm. even if that's correct, it's still a UI failure in that we're being shown a number and then a collection of events that don't add up to that number without having been given any indication that there are events being excluded.
maybe add a line into the event history saying "And # other events..."
unfortunately the excluded events don't seem to be just between the creation and the most recent activities... maybe they are it's hard to tell. If they are then it could be placed between the check-in line and the first non-excluded event, otherwise i dunno where to stick that message, but something like it really ought to appear.
Also, the title of the details section is incorrect for the data being displayed. It says "People who have checked in here" but what it shows is really recent activity (checkins, item drops, item swaps) + creation. I'm thinking "Recent Activity" would be a better title maybe color the creation event slightly differently to differentiate it from "recent activity" somewhat but leave it in the list still. -
Inappropriate?I guess the UI failure is somewhat subjective based on how you consume the data displayed. For me, it has always made sense and that could purely be due to my perceiving it in that manner from the start. When reading the "Top 10" text, it isn't conflicting with the activity list below the map.
However, I do agree that the "People who have checked in here..." should be renamed to something more accurate to what that list entails (such as your "Recent Activity" suggestion). There are several little details like this that I'm sure the Gowalla team will eventually fix. -
Inappropriate?I don't really think the Top 10 lists conflicts with the activity feed, in that it distinguishes itself as check-ins (only) and notes that it's limited to the last 90 days.
What has happened here, I would guess, is that the one time you did check-in, the app went bonkers server-side, and credited you with 5 check-ins.
I do agree when may need to consider re-titling the activity feed something like, well, 'Activity Feed.'
Thanks for your thoughts, and thanks for rocking Gowalla!
