Trip Requests
Here's a great place to post your ideas for new Gowalla trips. Simply share the theme and the spots that should be part of it (links are great if they've already been created). We can't guarantee that we'll add every one, but the more ideas the better.
And if someone suggests a trip you'd love to do, by all means, add a comment to let us know!
We can't wait to add more trips and improve the experience, plus let you guys create your own :)

Inappropriate?New York seems a little light on trips compared to some other cities, so I'd like to suggest one that takes in a few good sights, running from Columbus Circle down Broadway to Union Square. Along the way, it could take in Times Square, Macy's, the Flatiron Building, Shake Shack and probably a few others.

Inappropriate?- Visit both Cafe Intermezzo locations. (famous coffee shop in Atlanta)
- Visit ONE midtown kitchen, TWO urban licks, and Trois. (all restaurants owned by same company in different areas of town)
- Visit the Atlanta Zoo, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, the Georgia Aquarium/World of Coca-Cola, and Stone Mountain (major attractions in Atlanta, I would add Six Flags over Georgia to the list, but it may go out of business soon)
- Visit the North Springs MARTA Station and the Atlanta Airport MARTA Station (end of the north/south line, respectively).
- Visit Piedmont Park, the Chattahoochee River Park, and Centennial Olympic Park. (3 biggest parks in Atlanta).

This one's in the queue for art, Jordan. Thanks! -
Awesome. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! -
Cool. Tacoma, as in Tacoma, WA? -
Yes sir! Tacoma Washington... basically 20-30 miles south of Seattle and these locations are definitely some of the highlights of the city. :)
Heck they even have an audio tour you could do if you wanted to as well... however I extended the trip to locations outside of the audio tour. -
Sweet! Seattle is my birth city, and I grew up in Tacoma, so I look forward to doing this trip next time I'm up there visiting my family. -
Jonathan... is the Tacoma Trip coming soon? I'm checking every day for it. :) -
Inappropriate? Some time ago, I was inspired to come up with a trip centered around some of the most nefarious buildings currently known. The ones we all recognize and know some small history about. The homes to countless villains and ne'er-do-wells. The notorious structures of these United States. I propose a trip that travels from sea to shining sea and through 5 states cataloging the country's major prisons.
When I proposed this idea, only one had been Gowalla'd (Folsom State Prison). Since then, at least one more was created (why it took so long is a bit of a mystery, hehe). Team Gowalla could always manually create these spots, however, here's where some of you go-getter Gowallites can join in: if you are near the coordinates listed, do make these spots. I have provided some words one could use to describe the spots, but no one is under any obligation to use them, of course. Once you create the spot, reply in a comment to this post with the spot's URL. This is truly a commissioned trip, in my opinion.
The Spots (9 total):
Rikers Island (40o47'28"N 73o52'58"W)
Named after the 413 acre island between Queens, New York and the East River, this facility controls a yearly inmate population of up to 13,000. Prior to the unmarked 4,200-foot three-lane Francis Buono Bridge, the only access to the island was via ferry.
Attica (42o50'59"N 78o16'18"W)
Housing some of the most notorious criminals such as "The Son of Sam," Attica was the site of one of the most deadly prison riots in 1971; leaving 29 inmates and 10 correctional officers—held hostage—dead.
Sing Sing (41.150786 -73.869267)
If you were to be sent "up the river," this is the maximum security prison you were likely headed to serve your sentence. You'll not find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
San Quentin State Prison (37.9375oN 122.4891oW)
The oldest prison in the state of California, this prison has the only, and largest, death row for male inmates. Represented in the form of film, video, television, literature and even hosting concerts, these walls are notorious for more than just whom they hold.
Folsom State Prison (Spot created by Jolene Lavine on Mar 19, 2009)
Alcatraz Island (Spot created by Matthew McMaster on Oct 17, 2009)
The Rock. Home to Al Capone, "Machine Gun" Kelly and The Birdman (Franklin Stroud). Claimed to be the escape-proof penitentiary. It only served as a federal prison for 29 years. It's now part of the National Park Service and home to protected fauna and flora.
Cook County Jail (3015 N California Ave, Chicago, IL)
Covering 96 acres, this is the largest single-site county jail in the United States, housing approximately 9,800 men and women. The deeds of men to come here are second only in horror to our worst nightmares.
Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary (39o19'51"N 94o56'09"W)
Since an act of congress in 1895 opened the doors of this medium-security prison, the "Big House" has been home to countless inmates such as Michael Vick.
Texas State Penitentiary at Huntsville (30.722027oN 95.545596oW)
The "Walls Unit" is the oldest state prison in Texas, opening in 1849. Though it only holds a population close to 2,000 individuals, it is one of Texas' most notorious death penalty prisons, with "Old Sparky" executing around 362 inmates between 1924 to 1964.
I look forward to completing this trip whether live in the Trip list or not.
Happy Gowall'ing!

Forgot to mention the name I came up with for this trip. Rather simple, really: Notorious -
How about this one....
http://gowalla.com/spots/35103
26 Court St is the site of the first prison in Boston. Described by Nathaniel Hawthorne in The Scarlet Letter. Pirate Captain Kidd was brought here after capture in 1699 before being sent back to England for execution. -

Inappropriate? You guys said you like feature creep so here's an idea. In the trips section allow for user created trips. Then let the others vote on the trip. So when it hits a threshold of say a 100 or 200 people the trip appears in the directory. That's my two cents.
-
I like the idea of user-created trips alot, but how will users know about them if they aren't in a directory to begin with? -
Inappropriate?Maybe news user voted lists appear on the website only so people have to go there sometimes. It would be a way to roll out new features without having to update the mobile app with a "not-ready-for-prime-time" feature. Website programming is easy but an app everybody has to download a new version. Some on the new site just appears when they roll it out.
-
Inappropriate?Should we propose trips here on this thread that we have already sent to live at gowalla?

I think you could easily extend that to PNW Brewery's, including the now defunct Rainier Beer Brewery in Seattle (I thought the company was defunct, but apparently just the famous factory, seen from the freeway on the way to Seattle is -- here is their website: http://rainier-beer.com).
And there are a ton more WA Breweries here:
http://www.washingtonbrewersguild.org... -
And let's not forget Olympia Beer — I can still remember many times playing in the park below the brewery, and even touring the brewery with my family.

Gavin, the building is still there and has been made into a spot for the current owners, Tullys's Coffee Roasters. -
Inappropriate?Manchester Championship Chase:
City of Manchester Stadium: http://gowalla.com/spots/32099
Old Trafford: http://gowalla.com/spots/32090
Old Trafford Cricket Ground: http://gowalla.com/spots/127141
The first two spots were created by Team Gowalla, so I'm surprised that this hasn't been considered... -
How many times did you add this - I've had 20 copies of the notification email! -
Only the once! There's a problem with GS as I keep getting the same email for a single post on another thread as well! -
Glad it's not just me :) -
It's not. I'm now getting emails about your post above. In fact, the more posts on this thread, the more emails we'll get! -
So I suggest we stop posting... -

Inappropriate? There is a collection of a few tourist attractions in Atlanta that many come and do for a day. Adding this trip idea would be great for people that don't know what to do when they come here.
The locations I'm proposing for this trip are:
CNN Center
World of Coca Cola
Georgia Aquarium
Centennial Olympic Park
These locations are literally right next to each other and its THE tour to go on when you come to Atlanta for the first time.
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Please add Atlanta "Tour for Tourists" trip..
I’m excited
-
CNN is already a created spot...maybe you can make the others and add the urls to your request...the devs have asked for complete info when proposing a trip. -
Ahh. Didn't see that from the other posts. Here they are:
CNN Center http://gowalla.com/spots/11684
Centennial Olympic Park http://gowalla.com/spots/11696
World of Coca Cola http://gowalla.com/spots/11688
Georgia Aquarium http://gowalla.com/spots/11687
Fountain of Rings http://gowalla.com/spots/24036
Maybe call this "New to Atlanta?" or "Welcome to Atlanta!" or something similar... -
Inappropriate?Speaking of Atlanta-based trips, how about one for The Varsity? There are 6 locations around Atlanta (including one in neighboring Athens), and to call the original downtown location a landmark is an understatement.
Three of the locations currently have spots:
Downtown :: http://gowalla.com/spots/19599
Jr. :: http://gowalla.com/spots/24156
Gwinnett :: http://gowalla.com/spots/132150
The other three I could not find:
http://www.thevarsity.com/locations.php
If others agree this is a good trip idea, I'll gladly take an afternoon and create the remaining three spots.
What'll ya have, what'll ya have?!?
I’m a naked dog in the grass.

Now I just need to head to Athens one of these days for the last location! -

BTW, I call these "classic" points of interest because they are notable spots from even 20 years ago when i was in high school. Really should add Pittock Mansion and Oaks Park - I didn't find spots created for those. -
Inappropriate?Portland - "City of Bridges"

Ooh, good idea. And a lot of other cities can have bridges trips too. I'm thinking London... (reference here)
Battersea Bridge
Albert Bridge
Chelsea Bridge (no spot)
Vauxhall Bridge
Lambeth Bridge
Westminster Bridge
Golden Jubilee Bridge (aka Hungerford bridge, not on that list for some reason)
Waterloo Bridge
Blackfriars Bridge
Millennium Bridge
Southwark Bridge
London Bridge
Tower Bridge -
Hey, Lewis..I had contacted A about doing a '10 Bridges' kind o trip in the summer, cause London has a plethora o cool bridges. -

Great minds, as they say! -
Inappropriate?Boston, MA trips
The Freedom Trail
North End (little Italy)
Midnight ride of Paul Revere (that one might be tricky but awesome!)
I’m amused
-
Inappropriate?Oregon Coast Lighthouses would be an excellent trip, but I don't think many/any have been added yet.
How about the original classic trip, Route 66? I don't know how it would work since it is only mentioning citys, but following the lyrics of the song:
Chicago, Illinois
Saint Luis, Missouri
Joplin, Missouri
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Amarillo, Texas
Gallup, New Mexico
Winona, Arizona
Flagstaff, Arizona
Kingman, Arizona
Barstow, California
San Bernardino, California
Los Angeles, California -
Inappropriate? Some other Portland ideas: someone more familiar with the areas current popular spots should suggest specifics.
Hawthorne district stroll
23rd avenue shopping
downtown statues
pearl district art walk
McMennamin's hotels - oh gosh! if all the theater pubs/hotels were spots and you got a cool pin for going to all of them. I'm thinking Chrystal Ballroom should be included in that trip as well, but not all the little hole-in-the-wall pubs they own.
Alberta district
There are a couple of cool new-ish trendy neighborhoods in N. Portland too, aren't there?
I’m excited
-
Oh, and I forgot - a trip of the destination city locations for the Amazing race finale in Portland. Voodoo donuts has to go in some trip or other - maybe best kept food secrets in Portland.
1. Rimskey Korsacofee house
2. Voodoo donuts
3. The Montage
there's got to be more. -
