Problem Settlement: New Dehli Torch Rally - was it peaceful?
There is definite confusion over the best way to settle this question:
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/_After...
The torch rally itself seems to have been peaceful but only because protesters were kept away from the route.
Let me know your thoughts and if you have a prediction on the question.
Thanks
Lesley.

Did the troch relay and rally go off without any violent outbursts? If the answer is yes, it doesn't matter what the reasons for the peace was.

I've got $100 on it, not a biggie, so I hate to say it but it pretty much the damm thing was peaceful. The question was about the relay itself, not about government attempts to suppress violence that may occur. Was it peaceful? yep. Were people arrested? yep.

Of course the torch relay was not as violent as others before, but i have quite a different perception of a peaceful relay. When several dozens of protesters are being put into custody and all the pictures you see where the people are almost fighting with police it's not peaceful in my opinion.
Just because they did not get closer to the torch, I don't know.
Only because for example G.W. Bush doesn't see violent protesters who are one or two kilometers away it doesn't mean that it was peaceful.
I’m confident

If the torch relay was peaceful, that is what it is. It was a relay- they didn't stop it... There was peace because no one was nearby, but that is peace... We have to stick to the wording - Not the admin, but let the "betters" beware!

Inappropriate?When in doubt, void it.

Inappropriate?Lesley, I for one put money on that it would be peaceful, because of your clarification of the question (first comment, I believe.). Given the odds that hubdubers gave this event, I'm obviously in the minority, but the bottom line is that there were no attempts to douse the torch or anything to that affect, and the arrests themselves were relatively peaceful. I believe that because the relay was peaceful (this satisfies the actual wording of the question) and that because there were no attempts to douse the flame (which is what was laid out by YOU), this meets both the criteria for being peaceful. Bottom line is that this is was a peaceful march. It would be a sham to void this question.

Inappropriate?Considering the first comment for the question defined peacefull to be "...no protestors interfering with the torch in any way (e.g. grabbing, dousing, jossling)" and that this was the case, the question should be settled as peacefull. Everyone knew exactly what peacfull was to be defined as and voiding the question would be extremley unfair to those that took the minority position.
Also, I have no money on this question

Inappropriate? Thanks for all your input here guys. I've settled it as being peaceful.

Inappropriate?I suppose we can parse this and debate it to death. Personally I don't view it as a peaceful event, but then the wording in the settlement ... I think my head's going to explode. I've got so few H$ in this it shouldn't matter, but then how this is resolved may lead to either a) clearer guidelines for question wording/settlement definition, or b) cause users like me (time-constrained and perhaps a bit lazy) to have to read such things extremely carefully to try and figure out for ourselves where the line is to be drawn when things are somewhat grey. I vote for Void on this one, but I don't vehemently disagree with anyone's arguments presented here either way.

Inappropriate? If a rally with about 100 people arrested is peaceful, then what is violent?!

Inappropriate? The point is, they have not been arrested in direct (geographical) context of the torch - just like Lesley stated:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia...
The torch rally itself has been peaceful. therefor I agree with Lesley.
Where to draw the line, at 100 ft, 1'000ft or even further away? The context which matters here is to be seen geographical, not ideological. -
Inappropriate? But then the question should have been "not more than 1km away" or something like that.
I mean, if India makes a prison out of Dehli, as i think ABC put it, that's probably the closest the protesters could get, and therefore they even got arrested.
I’m frustrated
