Inappropriate?Thanks for getting in contact. What's your URL?
Thanks,
Michael -
Inappropriate?There are a couple of possible problems here. We're getting some reports that passwords that contain a few select non-alphanumeric characters are not getting passed correctly and are causing errors. For example "?" and "#". If your password contains any of these characters please try changing it at http://intensedebate.com/editprofile and try again.
If this is not the case, there may be a problem with your PHP configuration. In order for the sync and authorization functions to work they need to be able to contact our remote server (at intensedebate.com). Please ensure your PHP installation is properly configured to allow this.
Please let me know if that is the case.
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Michael can you please tell me more about the php configuration issues. as i have hte same issue. my url is www.gigathoughts.com

Inappropriate?It seems like some users (or rather, their web hosts) are configured to prevent external sites from making requests to their website. The problem with this is that part of the sync/install process involves the intensedebate.com servers making requests directly to your website.
Another one that we've seen is that some servers are not configured to allow PHP to make external requests to remote websites, which is again required for ID to work.
Either way, we should be able to get some useful information from your server's error logs if they're available. If they are, then please follow these steps so that we can see what errors are being triggered:
1. Log into your WordPress blog, install the plugin but leave it deactivated
2. Go to your plugin editor (Plugins > Editor) and select the IntenseDebate plugin in the box (top-right, in WP 2.8)
3. Go to line 37 of the code and change this;
define( 'ID_DEBUG', false );
so that it reads
define( 'ID_DEBUG', true );
4. Save the file
5. Activate the plugin via the Plugins page
6. Try setting up the plugin again
7. If it still doesn't work, the changes you made will be logging some information that can help us figure out why in your server's error logs. Access them however your host provides access, then send us the last chunk (there should be a timestamp/date as the first part of each line, so you can figure out which ones relate to the last 10 minutes or so and just send us those).
8. Make sure you change that line in the plugin code back to: define( 'ID_DEBUG', false );
Once you have them, please email them to support@intensedebate.com; Please DO NOT POST THEM HERE.
Thanks for your patience and help in figuring out what's going on here!
