IDC corrupts raw url while linkifying them

In this post a lot of people have been posting direct links to various articles, however it seems that if someone posts a url directly, IDC tries to convert it into an html link and ends up breaking it.
A commenter noticed that here

This does not happen on links you wrap around text.

The links all become in the form of http://http//www.url.com instead of http://www.url.com
