Inappropriate?Interesting that you asked this. Currently I would definitely go with Intense Debate mostly because the support seems to be much better but also because I find the Wordpress widgets to be very nifty.
Definitely prefer an active support community though :)
Funny thing, the only reason I discovered IDC is because they are active in GetSatisfaction and I saw one of their topics active in the homepage. It only goes to show that when companies take an interest in the community, it certainly helps.
Also, if there is a feature of disqus that IDC does not have already I have no seen it. Anyone know which has the largest community?
I’m interested

I like the video comment feature available with Disqus. Of course, I just saw Disqus for the first time about an hour ago and haven't tried adding a video comment yet, but the idea sounds useful. -
It sounds like a very web2.0 feature but not all that useful methinks. Someone who really wants to do that can always use youtube -
i disagree about YouTube, but not the usefulness. Unless you yourself are actively posting video, the likelihood of someone posting back via video, seems slim to me. That said, if video dialogue is your things... (as would be the case with my wife who has hard time plowing through text and typing back) I do see it's usefulness. -
Inappropriate?Why support matters: http://praningshoutout.blogspot.com/2...
I’m glad more people agree
-
Inappropriate?I'm trying both. Currenlty, I much prefer the style and feel of Intense Debate to Disqus. Disqus has a few advantages, such as increased perceived performance, and trackbacks (which is huge).
I am happy with the way Intense Debate is going, and am very happy with the support offered. Can't wait to see this on many more blogs.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Ah yes, Trackbacks! Rest assured they know that people are going to start picking up the pitchforks if they don't implement it soon.
I’m amused but serious
-
We certainly know. They're coming soon. Cheers. -
Inappropriate?I installed Disqus, because some people i follow already had the system, but the comment link disappear from my blog, only when you open the single page post it show. 'm going to install ID to see if behaves better. What i don't like is having to manage comment outside my blog admin panel.
-
To tell the truth, I never really managed any comments other than to fix the occasional open html tag. Perhaps in the future that (managing from the blog admin panel) will be possible as well. -
Inappropriate?I'm holding back on both of these for a bit. I don't like the fact that you need to have JavaScript enabled to post a comment.
I’m undecided
-
*shrugs* Eh, I never understood people's fear of javascript. -
and a technology alternative to javascript would be......? -
Why. ActiveX of course! :P -
I work for a company that does a lot of work for the public sector, and recent guidelines from the government have reminded their departments that all websites with a .gov.uk domain name must reach Level-AA of WCAG 1.0. This means that all functionality must still work if JavaScript, or some subset of JavaScript, is not available.
Before anybody points out that assistive technology can handle JavaScript just fine, it still has a way to go yet, and there are many other cases where JavaScript is not available. The native browser on my mobile phone doesn't understand JavaScript, and to get things working on Opera Mini requires you to understand how that browser works.
I don't have a problem with the fact that these particular solutions need JavaScript to work, but I'm not comfortable with the fact that without JavaScript the comments simply do not appear. Could a server side include not pull the comments into the page before it is sent to the browser? In addition, I think that the fall back could work more elegantly.
Currently, Disqus seems to handle this better (in Wordpress at least) by providing links to the forum at the bottom of the post.
One improvement could perhaps be to rewrite the text to explain that the discussion is being hosted somewhere else, rather than simply saying that JavaScript is required. It isn't required if you go to the Disqus website.
-
How would you suggest they implemented it? -
Inappropriate?David, that's actually a good point. I didn't consider that part. I suggest you put this in a new topic as an Idea so that it might get some attention as by being a comment to a comment, it is easy to miss.
I’m thankful
-
Cheers. It looked a bit less of a rant too before it lost all the paragraph spacing. ;)
I'll summarise it and post it to both forums. -
Inappropriate?I've run an extensive comparison of not only Disqus and IntenseDebate, but also included JS-Kit and SezWho. You can read the about the criteria, the winners and much more details here http://themindstorms.wordpress.com/20....

I’m confident

Inappropriate?I've just seen this in the IntenseDebate FAQ for Wordpress.
Remember that your WordPress comment system will still be running when JavaScript is disabled in your browser. Since we only copy your comments into IntenseDebate, all of your comments will still show up in your WordPress comment section.
Sounds like a great fall back solution to the JavaScript problems I spoke about before. Just installing it now to see how it looks.
I’m hopeful

My cite attribute was stripped out - http://intensedebate.com/wordpress -
Inappropriate?Any thoughts? What are the benefits of a comment system, either one, to traffic or comment frequency? I'm missing why someone would use these systems for any more than the bells and whistles. How do they result in more traffic, readers, or comments?
Then I'd ask, which is better at delivering those?
-
I've blogged a bit about this. See here -
Inappropriate?I just switched to IntenseDebate from Disqus thanks to db0. We had a very 'intense debate' on a post back in December. There was a problem with the threading in Disqus that made it go deeper and deeper forever regardless of the setting. I made the support team aware of it at the time. They said they would look at it. Three months later the issue had not been resolved and I switched.
