Hi, folks.
A quick update: all incoming email is once again flowing smoothly into Sandy's inbox and she's reading and responding to them as quickly as she's able. She should have the entire lot handled within the next 20 minutes or so.
Once again, I appreciate your patience and (under the circumstances) rather good humor.
I'll report back again shortly.
Rael

I am only receiving a select few of my email, not all of them. My outgoing seems to be o.k. -
Inappropriate?ya, in fact even from the "new" link on the iwantsandy.com web site, its not getting emails. HELP!!!
I’m worried for sandy... is she sick?
-
Inappropriate?Sadly, I'm having the same problem, no emails (either incoming or outgoing).
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Sandy, are you OK? I'm worried about you.
(But relieved that it isn't only me that you're shunning.)
-
Inappropriate?I've not heard from Sandy all morning (it's lunchtime here in France) - anyone called to her to find out if she's OK and when she'll be fit again ?
I’m anxious
-
Inappropriate?Hey Sandy, are you on strike - no daily digest this morning or reminders
-
Inappropriate?Update: I am getting Twitters from Sandy (but only for existing appointment/todo etc), but not emails... Maybe her email has crashed!!!
I’m amused
-
Inappropriate?Sandy :: Sweden calling ;)
-
Inappropriate?Come on Sandy! I'll start singing the Rolling Stones in a minute....."I can't get no........"
I’m making my own ears bleed!
-
Inappropriate?... I need you today, oh Sandy.

Inappropriate?i can't stop laughing at this thread!!
-
Inappropriate?Down since late last night in EST, as far as I can tell.
-

-
Inappropriate?Personal day? Kid's got the flu? Snowed in?
-
Inappropriate?Thought it might be this, and Sandy has taken the day off
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administ...'_Day
I’m kidding
-
Inappropriate?she is silently asking for a raise/recognition by going on strike for a day?
I’m amused
-
Inappropriate? We're Sandy-less in Colorado. Sandy, you playing hooky?
-
Inappropriate?Still issues here?
Move over WALDO - Where's Sandy?
PS. She never showed up for my first day <gasp></gasp>
I’m in mourning
-
Inappropriate?Hi Softwarecat!
I'm sorry Sandy didn't make it in on time her first day. I assure you that this was all our fault, not hers -- she was most likely wondering why everyone else had overslept.
Please do give it another whirl. And in the meantime, is there anything I can remind you about? Move the car? Wash the dog?

Inappropriate?Hi, just checked my emails and lots of email from Sandy!!! She's back!!!
Thanks for fixing the problem.
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Um, thanks for that, packtdavidb ;-)
-
Inappropriate?A few short days and I'm so attached already that I was feeling VERY bereft at not heading from Sandy all day.
She is back! Hurrah!
I’m so happy!
-
Inappropriate?Same here!!! Happy Sandy's back...
-
Inappropriate?Okay now I'm not getting emails again. Just me? It's been like this for over an hour or so.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Okay, now what. Someone please talk me down from the edge - I really like this idea - novel - who doesn't want this. I tried the samples on the site - but I'm getting worried. I certainly don't want a forgetful assistant - I've got that role covered. COMMUNITY: Is this normal - how reliable is this. (Is this the wrong place?) Thanks!
I’m pondering
-
Inappropriate?I've been using Sandy for about two weeks, and I've loved it. This is the first major hiccup I've seen. The last bug I saw was much smaller and was solved in a couple of hours.
I’m working through it.

Inappropriate?Might I suggest that an separate out-of-band email process to let the community know when Sandy has "Got the flu" so to speak, when she is feeling better and when she has been able to go through her massive inbox. People should also be able to say which of these email they would like to get. Also a status section on the web site's main page that has Sandy's current status would be nice. If it was on the main page it could be linked to in by an outside pages so people don't have to authenticate.

Inappropriate?Something's happening.....
Got a daily digest - blank <dang> - seems like she might still be shirking her responsibilities - Is it possible she's moonlighting as a waitress.</dang>
I’m liking my Sandy support group
-
Inappropriate? She's coming back... slooooooowly. Sandy's 90 minutes behind on my email, but maybe that's just because she's become so popular today. I hope she's able to stay on top of her new client base--I'd really like to stick with her, since this is a great service when it runs smoothly!
I’m concerned

Inappropriate?UPDATE: Well - it appears Sandy wanted us to know how valuable she is, even though she is free. Seems like there is a lesson in all this.
Anyway - Sandy is working now for me in Oregon
(Sandy - are we out of the woods yet?)
I’m thankful Sandy is free - THANK YOU!
-
Inappropriate? Thanks Rael for the update. As a first time employer, and start up myself :) She'll still get her chance. Thanks guys!
I’m off to train Sandy
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the vote of confidence, softwarecat. A start up in Oregon? What's that like? ;-)

Inappropriate?Hi Non-Sequitur,
Thanks for your thoughtful suggestions!
For an out-of-band email process with the ability to pick and choose topics you're interested in, GetSatisfaction's "Follow this topic" functionality seems to fit the bill.
For Sandy status updates, visit http://getsatisfaction.com/iwantsandy... and click the "Follow this talk topic" link beneath the first post.
If you're also interested in any new features, fixes, etc you might also consider following the "Updates" topic at http://getsatisfaction.com/iwantsandy.... We post there with detailed notes whenever we push a new version of anything to our servers.
(Do make sure you have your GetSatisfaction account set up send you email about topics you follow (under Account > Email & Notifications) [see http://getsatisfaction.com/satisfacti... for more info].)
We are usually pretty on the ball about posting to there when there are status updates (good and bad) to report. And it is completely out-of-band and so doesn't rely at all upon Sandy or iwantsandy.com being available.
Having this on the main site wouldn't be much of a protection in the eventuality that the site weren't reachable, I'm afraid.
The one thing that would have made all of this probably a lot smoother today would have been if I'd moved a little faster to post in the first place.
If you've any suggestions or pointers to other things that might have worked well, please do pass them my way. While balancing fixing the problem and reporting back with anything approaching helpful details is prime for me, anything else I can do to accomplish more of both of these goals is pure gold!
Best,
Rael -
Inappropriate?Well to be honest I was thinking that even something that was nothing more than a few scripts that checked her status and/or queue and sent out via email. Preferably from you all instead of a third party like Get Satisfaction. This way mobile users would not be flooded with a million emails that were not related just because we created or responded to other Get Satisfaction issues.
Also I still think that a little status icon on the website would be a good move. After all if we check that and the site is down then it is obvious that Sandy is most likely having issues of her own. -
Inappropriate?Hi Non-Sequitur,
I hear you. And good points all.
We have myriad systems and scripts in place to check and triple check everything, texting/paging and otherwise notifying us at all hours if something even seems close to being a problem. Unfortunately this was one of those rare conditions where something we had not anticipated bit us (and you). We've new systems going into place right as I type this to make sure this edge case and any others we can anticipate around this issue won't come up again.
As for a status message on the site, coincidently enough one of the things I added to the site just yesterday was a message banner through which we can notify Sandy's clients of any issues (specific to them or otherwise). It is already in action for issues around account activation, but I'd just not yet had the chance to enable additional notifications. That'll be in tomorrow, I can assure you.
Rael
