Desktop app should use my local music library in conjunction with streaming. Saving money and bandwidth.
My idea is simple. It would save last.fm lots of money.
The desktop app knows what music is in my iTunes library. Many times when I am listening to last.fm it streams music that I already own. This is a wasteful use of internet bandwidth and money in royalty fees on behalf of last.fm. When last.fm creates a 'radio station' it should check to see if I already have that song first. If I own the song that is next to be played it should then play the song off my computer, after the song is over and providing the next song is not already in my library the desktop app could then stream again from the internet.

Inappropriate? The Last.fm client should use QuickTime for this, to allow playback of tracks protected by Apple FairPlay DRM.
(If you open a protected track in the QuickTime player, i.e. outside of iTunes, it will play successfully [if you have the license, of course]).
I’m hopeful.
