LinkedIn Page Load Error - Network Timeout or Connection Interrupted
i can navigate to all other sites except linkedin.com or subpages. the error shown is: Page Load Error - Network Timeout "The server at linkedin.com is taking too long to respond." Another PC we have accesses linkedin.com just fine. completed virus scan with nothing found. really bizarre. PC new past few months. Windows XP. Mozilla FireFox. Tried on IE. Have accessed LinkedIn from this PC in the past few weeks. Uninstalled recently added standard type programs used for playing video and a web seminar - all seeming standard stuff. Another version of the failure reports: "Connection Interrupted - The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. - The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again." Neither Restart nor Shutdown has solved the problem. As another tangential check, I can connect to LinkedIn on the same PC through a remote connection to another PC, so that other PC is really the interface with LinkedIn. The problem is between my PC connection and LinkedIn, tho I cannot find anything from my end that would be blocking, and I wonder from the timeout error notices if it's possible LinkedIn is not accepting my PC's connection.

Inappropriate?2008.12.03 10:42am Central this problem cleared - hopefully stays that way. assume from my reporting of problem and/or accessing LinkedIn thru work PC from home PC.

I'm on a MacBook Pro on 10.5 and have had this issue with LinkedIn and some other sites. My laptop could not get in, but my wife's 13"MacBook could - leading me to think it was a laptop issue after I played with the router settings and it wasn't fixed.
I just got in and fixed this issue by changing the MTU on my Mac. To do so:
- Go to the Apple Menu
- Choose System Preferences
- Choose Network
- If you're on wireless, choose Airport (otherwise choose Built-in Ethernet) then click the Advanced button on the bottom right.
- Click the Ethernet tab at the top right
- Change Configure from Automatically to Manual
- Change the MTU to 1000
- Click Apply and try getting in to LinkedIn, it should work. -
Inappropriate?Likewise pages just try to load for sign-in and then the error apprears. I have been getting this problem from my lap top for the last 3 days or more. Also can not access either from my desk-top (lap top running with XP Pro and desk top with 2000 Pro). I have reported it to LinkedIn and have a ticket number returned but no resolution or reply from LinkedIn as yet. Is their server collapsing? - I really hope not.

FIXED THIS ISSUE ON A MAC - CHANGING THE MTU SETTINGS ON WIN SHOULD DO IT TOO, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CHANGE IT ON WINDOWS THOUGH

Inappropriate?I also have problems logging in and executing actions within the LinkedIn site. Sometimes, a flush of my cookies allows me to login but actions such as 'View My Contacts' fail with a time out.

Usually I can get into LinkedIn, but any replies, postings or other activities just time out. -
Interestingly, I logged into LinkedIn this week without any problem while at a friends house - so I am now considering if my network/router is the problem. -
Keith, i strongly suspect my router too
cause firefox, seamonkey or konqueror all get stuck at login
but all go trhrough when i switch back to my old straight/simple ADSL box
(no router, no firewall, no ...) or use my laptop at office
i tried siwitching the firewall off but it is not the issue
have now to try with the other many options my router box offers
if i get lucky, i let you know so that you can try
if any one gets lucky going that way, please let others know -

Inappropriate?I have almost identical issues. I have tried Explorer, Fire Fox and Chrome with the front page loading and everything else timing out. Others I know have no problem. I tried another computer using the same router as mine in our home and that worked fine. It seems to be isolated to my laptop. I'm about to give up and give it bad press but it may not be LinkedIn's fault so will keep my mouth shut. Has anyone actually found a resolution?

same experence...son's computer running vista works perfectly (I am on XP)
I tried connecting to a neighbor's network and could NOT connect...that rules out the modem/router suggestions
I am at a loss...very very confusing and frustrating.
This is the ONLY site that I have difficulties with...has to be site specific!!!
HELP PLEASE BEFORE I JUMP! -
After making sure that my router's setting for "MTU" is 1500 and also enabled (it was previously disabled), that worked....but occasionally this linkedin.com site will still not load, so I unplug the router and plug it back in after about 10 seconds, and this seems to work. Not sure why! -
setting MTU fixed it for me. I had sites which would refuse to load under firefox on Linux, but which would load on Windows. Set MTU to 1500 bytes and it fixed the issue immediately, as far as I can see! -
Inappropriate?this is fatemeh hajighasemi all of my friend and i have this problem for about 4 day till now what can we do ?

-
Inappropriate? In Firefox, I cleaned all history, cookies, etc (a command in the "Tools/options" menu) and it temporarily restored the system. After some time however, I was back to the "timeout" situation. I repeated the cleaning and it works. I guess it will continue this way. Very uncomfortable and actually...not acceptable.

Inappropriate?I have tried most things. It is related to individual machines as we have other on our home network that work fine on LinkedIn. I changed the router yesterday and I can now access LinkedIn full speed with no problems. Suggest its something to do with the router settings.
-
Inappropriate?on my Linux machine it works fine on Konqueror but not on firefox, on my windows machine it works fine on firefox. so does this mean it is OS problem ?
-
Inappropriate?Change the MTU on the router down from 1400 or whatever value.
I made it to 1200 and it works. I dont think browser has anything do with it.

Yes, that worked for me , thanks a million - it was 1month trouble ! -
my mtu setting needed to be 1500 (you have to ping the website linkedin to find out the setting), so when I checked the router setting to make sure the mtu was correct, it was disabled. All I had to do was click enable (it was already set at 1500). Now I can login to linkedin.com with no problems!
To check your router settings, you need to: just paste the ip of the router into your web browser. Linksys is usually 192.168.1.1:
http://192.168.1.1
If you don't know the ip of the router you can try clicking start-->run-->then type cmd and click "OK". In the command prompt type: ipconfig and press "Enter" on the keyboard. If there's a "gateway address" that will the the number to type after http:// in your browser.
Then you need to login....the default password is admin, leave the username blank (unless you setup a username and pw...use that). Once in, click on the advanced tab, then under filters scroll down to MTU. It should be enabled. Mine says 1500.
Hope this helps! -
Didn't work for me. My router was at 1500, I tried 1200 and 616.
LinkedIn used to work intermittently, but has degraded over time. I'm on satellite internet, so it seems likely that the speed-of-light delay is an issue. Maybe LinkedIn can adjust their timeout value upward a bit to allow for their increased network traffic? -
Inappropriate?I am having this issue for past 2 months. Tried using different browser, connection, PC etc. The issues stays. Mostly the issue occurs when i try to send an invite, add a connection. Rest everything is Okay.

Inappropriate?I have been having the same issue on my Mac, both in Safari and Firefox, from more than one network. I have deleted my cookies, reset my browser, restarted my computer, etc. Everything is to no avail. I can edit my profile for about five minutes, but I cannot add any new connections, and pretty much every LinkedIn page times out or just fails/freezes in general.
I’m seriously disappointed
-
Inappropriate?I have tried from 3 separate PCs. It happens most during normal M - F business hours (at peak usage of the site). Tried using Windows XP machine with both Firefox and IE. Tried using iMac with Firefox and Safari. Tried using Windows Vista machine with IE and Firefox. All report same thing - network timeout. They have become so popular, but haven't added pipe or server capacity. My guess is they are getting overwhelmed with web requests and just can't keep up. too bad...losing my business today. Not going to pay $50 a month to not have any access to site at all.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Possible solution I found in the following blog: http://itechlog.com/easy-tips/2009/05...
I’m thankful
-
Didn't work for me. There were several LinkedIn cookies and I deleted them all. Was able to log in after that, but couldn't even get to the first page after the login screen without a Page Load Error. I'm on a satellite connection, so there's a speed-of-light delay that might be affecting things.
If this is a LinkedIn web-server timeout setting that's too low, they could cut their traffic (by all our retries!) if they'd just bump that setting up! -
Just sent another support request to LinkedIn support. Posted the problem in Dec.08 and got replies from LinkedIn suggesting to adjust my date/time settings...
Tried every possible fix (cookies, MTU, unplugging the coffee machine next to the computer,....) . From time to time accessing a particular page would work but the next one will try to load forever. No solution. -
Inappropriate?I finally solved my problem -- which it turns out was affecting several other random sites as well as LinkedIn -- by replacing my DSL modem. I was previously using a Zyxel Prestige 645M-UHP and replaced it with a Zyxel P-660R -D1. I was trying to fix an entirely different problem with my DSL line dropping. The new modem didn't fix that problem at all. But now I can access LinkedIn without difficulty. Relevant to other posts, I didn't change my wireless router settings, so it seems it was the modem at fault rather than the router, but who knows? For what it's worth, my problem with LinkedIn was not timeouts -- I previously couldn't load the site at all, from any computer on my home network, using any browser.
-
Inappropriate? How very frustrating. I am very concerned there has been nothing done by LinkedIn to sort this out, and their support provides advice that doesn't work.
I don't feel I should have to replace my modem or change my modem settings to have access to a website.
Should it be this hard?
I have contacted LinkedIn support previously, was given a ticket number. They advised to clear cookies, etc. This didn't work.
Can log in, but can not do anything else.
EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING.
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?same problem...my computer is the ONLY computer in the house (of three) that doesn't work properly (ONLY the linkedin site!)
my computer software is completely up-to-date...ALL sites work except linkedin?????
I’m terribly frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I'm new to Linkedin and have been going crazy tring to simply login much less set-up my profile. After a lot of research and some trial and error I've finally fixed the network time-out issue.
First, I upgraded my firewall firmware (linksys BEFSX41) to rev 1.52.15.
Second I signed up with OpenDNS and input their Domain name server addresses into both my computer [network] and firewall settings.
All problems solved and all pages load fine now.
It's my guess that my ISP (Comcast) is filtering / blocking traffic to diff domains. I know that they did add filters to block file sharing and it's possible that Linkedin got caught in the mix.
Anyone with timeout issues should changing the Domain Name Server address in your network settings. This would explain why diff operating systems, browsers, etc. all have the same issue while changing routers etc... sometimes corrects the problem.
BTW, I learned of Open DNS from reading a post in getsatisfaction. I tried and so far have failed to locate the poster. - Whoever you are,,, thanks !!!! -
I recently changed address and ISP - with my new router, I can now connect to LinkedIn without any problem - so it would seem the issue is with the router config. -
Inappropriate?Hi, I'm going mad trying to login to Linkedin from my home laptop. I can pick it up no problem using my G1 phone, but suffer with timeouts at home. Did anyone actually manage to solve this problem? I've just found this site, and I'm desperate! thanks!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?okay...I have been in email communication with a LinkedIn person (somewhat useless by the way). Nonetheless, I was able to pinpoint this issue down to the router.
I connected my laptop directly to the cable modem and I had ZERO difficulties with LinkedIn.
What I don;t understand yet is "Why?" didn't my connection via my neighbors network perform? Different router...I am assuming there is some incompatibility with specific computers, routers, and LinkedIn.
I believe I will try a replacement router to see what happens...more to follow.
I’m continuing my LinkedIn journey

updated router's firmware, reset the router with all computers in house 'off', restarted my computer first...bang, it works!?!?!?!!?!?!

Thanks to all that post....good luck with your fixes!

Inappropriate?I have the same problem. I've noticed that the timeout happens QUICKLY, in less than 3 seconds, but the timeout page I see lists my shortest timeout as 10 seconds. I bumped it to 20 seconds, no change. So it's not a timeout on my system. I'm out rurally so I'm on Satellite internet, with speed-of-light delays, so I'd suspect the actual timeout is 2 seconds.
I tried the OpenDNS, reduced MTU setting, different browsers on Windows and Linux: no joy. Some temporary help from deleting LinkedIn browser cookies.
I suspect that at LinkedIn a server or router has a 2 second timeout set. And that the developers there don't see significant network delays, so they never see this problem!
Hypothesis: there are several interactions between the browser and LinkedIn. Cookies, MTU settings, different DNS servers, etc. affect the timing a bit, so we see temporary, intermittent fixes. It would be nice to know whether this has been checked by the LinkedIn admins.
Thank you,
Scott

Inappropriate?Fix: increase the DNS query timeouts, to allow for the speed-of-light delay as the signal travels from my satellite dish to the satellite to the ground station and back. See:
http://drewthaler.blogspot.com/2005/0...
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/li...
WARNING: regedit misuse can screw up your computer. If you're not technically oriented, find someone to help you!
Start, Run, regedit
Navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
Right-click on the right pane, select New, Multi-String Value
Add key "DNSQueryTimeouts"
The default value is:
1 2 2 4 8 0
I went straight to:
4 8 8 8 16 0
and my Linkedin timeouts went away! If I hit excessive delays I'll plan on tuning these downward.
Best wishes,
Scott

Inappropriate?I get the same problem describe from other people in this issue: I can navigate to all other sites except linkedin.com or subpages. I can navigate in linkedin.com with my user in another PC with another connection.
I have reported it to LinkedIn support and they open a ticket number. They suggest to me (and I did all their suggestion) to clear the cache of the browser, to change the MTU value, to change the firewall/antivirus, to check with my ISP provider if all is ok, but the problem still existed.
My configuration is: Windows Xp SP3, firefox or IE (the problem is the some), ISP in Italy.
The very last answer from Linkedin support is: about 10% of our customer have this problem. After this answer, they didn’t suggest anything else.
I didn’t any comment about that ....
Finally, I find the solution three days ago: I run the free program winsockxpfix.exe (the program is for windowsXp. If you get the some problem and you use another op.sys. look for your version) and now I can navigate in linkedin.com and subpages.

winsockxpfix.exe solved the problem for me too, after hours of trying all sorts of other suggested solutions that came to nothing. It's worth mentioning that after rebooting following running winsockxpfix, my xp laptop appeared to hang up. I actually switched it off twice and reloaded, fearing that the hangup was permanent. All was resolved eventually and possibly I would have be well advised to be more patient first time - reload took a fair few minutes. -
Inappropriate? It might be good for anyone with this issue to try changing the DNS on their router. Google has some instructions on how to change to their new Public DNS here:
http://code.google.com/speed/public-d... -
Inappropriate?I change with public DNS but the problem is still exist. So, my suggestion is to repair winsock.
To find out the right version, you check "winsock repair vista or Windows 7" in internet. Winsock is a tcp/ip function.
