Create Synth can't login to Windows Live

same problem. i can not get in. let me know when it is fixed.

I had 3 failures uploading a ~170-photo synth, but the 4th time was ok. One of the failures was due to the laptop's battery dying half way. On reanimation of the computer, the synth appeared to continue ok. Shame it didn't know it would fail.

But I ended up very impressed with 59% – on a set of pics with which I didn't take too much care to make synthy.

I think this is the same issue that rustynail48 is reporting.

The message I see is this:

Our authentication servers don't seem to be working. We're working hard to get them back online. Please try again later. (80048265)

I have a suspicion this isn't happening by accident and there's more than password authentication going on when you try to create a photosynth. I suspect that people who suddenly find they are prevented from creating synths having downloaded the plug-in are also unable to use IE7 or WMP11. This explains why employees have not seen fit to even acknowledge this issue, let alone resolve it and why photosynth is an OS specific product. . It's deliberate.

It's not related to IE7 and Media Player 11, at least not on my system. Both of them run just fine. I had the Media Player problem on an underpowered 32 bit system before I upgraded to 64 bit hardware, but not any more.

Can someone please tell me what I've been doing wrong so that I can begin creating synths? To all of you who are NOT having problems on 64 bit Windows I'm happy for you, realy, but please don't add another post telling me it works fine for you unless you can also tell me how to get it working for me. Thanks.

My options from this page are to sign into Photosynth or Create an Account.

If I click sign up, I get a message that I"m already signed in and am dumped on my LiveID account screen. No offer to create a synth account.

If I click sign in, I get an error page - Oops... the leaves fell off and we're temporarily unable to load that page.

I do already have a LiveID, I do not have a Photosynth account. I'm on IE7, Win XP. I can "explore" creations just fine.

I was blaming my IE8 Beta 2 for not being able to create an account and login in Photosynth. Now it looks like a wider problem.

Nope. This is happening despite having a profile set up, despite being already logged in with Live ID and despite being logged in on photosynth. There appears to be an additional authentication protocol which, despite what the box says, has nothing to do with any of that.

When I try this it fails at step 5 with the following error message:
"Your user name and password aren't matching up. Could you try again? If you forgot your password, recover it here.."

good day everybody, at the top right of the photosynth page, click the "SIGN IN" button, enter a user name, the rest should follow from there, well that's what worked for me....(in firefox).

This is why I hesitated to post this topic in the first place. I have been using my Windows Live login for years. In fact, I just used it to log in to this message board. In order to verify one more time that I have been using the correct User ID and Password, I tried to open Photosynth again by cutting and pasting the same User ID and Password that logged me on here. I got the same error message. I have even tried the password recovery recommended in the dialog box with the same results. It works everywhere but on Photosynth.

Can we please dispennse with the n00b answers and deal with the real problem here.

i have to comment here, and sorry you're having this problem.... i 'm in explorer now, and working away on a synth (123 photos, it's taking a long time!), but i couldn't get in on the "sign in" tab, i got the falling leaves page again, so i went to the "create a synth" button, and got in that way....
can you try mozilla firefox ? i'm not a fan of firefox, i prefer opera myself, but the microsoft links seem to get stuck in a loop with no way forward, that's why i'm suggesting firefox, sign in, create a username.....that way at least you have a photosynth account and you bypass this "windows live login" problem.
personally speaking, i'm with neil on the conspiracy theory, if there are 27 employees in this forum, how come none of them are helping?

I was able to get in today and here is what I did.... can't believe this is what it took, but it worked for me - maybe it will work for you.

I tried from a different computer with IE6 - I know... it says IE7 - but from IE6, when presented with either login or create a photosynth account, when I clicked to create the account, I got the screen I needed to.
I don't get this at all, but I entered my msn.com email as my email address - thinking that I should use the same info as I have for it - but I got an error when I submitted the info. It said to NOT use a hotmail or msn domain ??!! So, I entered a different email (ie - me@abc.com) and submitted. Viola - I had a photosynth account.

Then I went back to my computer with IE7. I signed in using me@abc.com and was welcomed. I clicked CREATE and was prompted to login again. I was confused because it was asking for a LiveID. I tried my msn.com account - no luck. I used the "me@abc.com" and it worked.

I was able to upload my pictures.

If I were you, I'd give this a try. Seems like at least with IE6 you want get lost in an endless loop. And ignore the part about LiveID - use a totally unrelated email.

I have the same problem and nobody found how to resolve it !
Finally i found myselft... This problem cause by the password input for windows live user on photosynth website don't accept any long password ! (i don't know how long exactly, but my old password on windows live was 17 characters, i changed it on shorter password and it's work now)
Try to change on a shorter password you can sign in to create your synth

Mkabala, lotus.noir has posted a possible solution to your question. I was surprised to not hear a response from you, but when I visited your profile here on getsatisfaction.com, I saw that somehow his comment does not appear in your feed even though the one directly before it and after it do. I assume you were never notified of it.

He reports that after having your problem with his current 17 character password, he changed it to a shorter password and the problem resolved itself. Only in that context does my previous reply make any semblance of sense.

Have a look and let the rest of us know if this fixes your problem or if the problem lies elsewhere.

I am having a problem which might or might not be related.
I can’t get past the create profile stage, so I can’t get to photosynth. I’m caught in an infinite loop at the create profile stage.

First I go the www.photosynth.net site
I get the dialog box: “New to photosynth? You’ll need to create a profile...”
(I have already created a profile, but cannot get past this anyway)

I click the dialog box saying “Create a profile”

Windows Live ID website opens in I.E, giving me two options

Log out from this account and log in with another e-mail address
Stay logged in using this ID

I choose Stay logged in using this ID

The following dialog is displayed:
Your Photosynth profile has been created! You can now close this window and return to the Photosynther.
I close the window and a dialog box appears:
”When you’re done creating your photosynth profile, click OK to create a synth”
I click OK and get back to the “New to Photosynth...” dialog box again!!

Win XP SP3 and I.E 7 and I have also tried Firefox.
I am logged in since I can create a profile and comment on synths.
I have also tried changing my windows live password to 7 chars.

Please help!
